I didn't used to believe so, but Girbride's comments have pursuaded me. After the draft Gilbride was clear that an introduction of youth in the OLine was very much needed. He has had some very favorable things to say about Pugh, and it was his remark about Pugh not necessarily taking Diehl's spot because Diehl could always move inside that had me coming around. It left the impression Pugh already has expectations to start at RT but that doesn't count Diehl out because there are still other options for him.
In his recent interview when he talks about wanting to have more plays/fomrations/concepts where they are sending more receivers without the need to chip, he knows well this is not something they can get away with with guys like Diehl in there. I think he is well aware of the limitations and realizes personnel changes are necessary for them to to do what they they would like. I don't think we're even talkign about these things if we are assuming Pugh is a down the road type deal.
I don't think Pugh starts. The only open spot, imo, is RT. Pugh was a LT in college. Switching from the left to right side of the OL or vice versa is extremely difficult. On top of that, they were using Pugh at multiple positions in camp. Instead of having him focus on just one position. I think in the long run it will be better for him to be that versatile but in the short term I think it is going to be a tough task to accomplish. I think Pugh at some point will start but I am not sure if it will be from day 1. That is a lot to ask of a young kid. I don't think most people know how difficult it is to switch from one side of the OL to the other, especially at OT.
when he didn't report to camp on time and he turned down a great contract in terms of money and years. Then when the details came out it furthered my opinion that AJ Smith was a serious douchebag.
disappointing if Pugh is not starting on the OL right away. First round pick taken higher than he was valued, should translate into 1st year starter, or it becomes questionable !
If DD has to start one single game, when not filling in for an injured player, we are in trouble on the right side. DD stunk last season and I'm sure he didn't get any better or younger this offseason.
the picks a few spots below him and after him. Picks 14 through 21 (besides Pugh at 19) all got guaranteed money. Check out the two articles below on the subject:

When asked whether or not the no answer was intentional, Pugh replied "I actually had the phone in my pocket at the time but was unable to reach it."
"It was sort of embarrassing", Pugh said of the incident and later apologized to Manning via text message once he was able to retrieve the phone.
