At all of having Cruz practicing punt returns. After seeing what Hixon did just doing a normal cut on a punt return practice, I would never have 1 or 2 doing it, especially when there is a shot in hell that there is a chance you would ever use them there in a game.
I have high hopes for an improved defense this year(although they wouldn't have to improve much to be better).
Ralph Vacchiano @RVacchianoNYDN 6m
Rueben Randle, Jerrel Jernigan, David Wilson, Jayron Hosley and Victor Cruz handling punt returns.
Plus, Ross and McBride CANNOT be the 2d team CBs, can they?

Just thought I'd get it out of the way!
Agreed. Kiwi should have had his hand back on the ground two years ago.
Pugh beats DD out at RT. please.
Conor Orr @ConorTOrr 2m
Curry is walking off the practice field. Walked a little gingerly after diving to break up a pass.
like Deion Sanders.. Rod Woodson.. Percy Harvin..Desean Jackson..Tim Brown...
Giants should see what his skill set is... what if you need an emergency punt returner..
Tom Rock @TomRock_Newsday 2m
Bosworth in for Curry, who got up slowly after diving for a PD in 7s.
and that he is ahead of Hosley is to be expected. Hosley has mental breakdowns and is a bit of a runt. Ross is a veteran CB in good health with Physical gifts, intelligence, speed and 2 SB rings.Anyone who wrote him off is gonna be wearing egg before the year is over. He will absolutely contribute this year. One of his biggest problems in the past has been injuries and depression. He isn't injured or depressed this go-round, and is quite happy to be here, " Back where he belongs".
Jayron Hosley
Laron Scott
Junior Mertile
Terrence Frederick
Charles James
Terrell Thomas (PuP)
Aside from the rest of the 1s and 2s, the above is the rest of the Giants CB roster. You wouldn't expect Ross to be ahead of all those guys?? I would.
Coaches like McBride, may have wanted to see just what he has right away.
...to focus solely on playing in the slot so it may not mean anything that he's not playing the outside with the 2's. If they go to a standard nickel and Ross is in the slot then it says something.
Not saying Hosley sucks, but rather that I would expect Ross to be a 2nd string Outside CB, no worse than that....
he may find Ross nipping at his heels, just saying....
the Giants chose to let him walk in free agency and he was terrible with the Jags last year.
What gives us hope that he should be playing 2d string?
Plus, McBride over Hosley? A FA over last year's 3d pick? It seems to me that Hosley has slipped at this point.
and I have major doubts that ross is a serviceable corner going up against the number 2 WR's this league has to offer.
I hope the LB experiment is done. He's a much better DE than LB.
I wish I had your confidence in Ross, but I've seen him get burnt too many times. He alone should have cost us the game against Dallas last year where Romo missed a wide open Austin for the game. I am more of the Duke's opinion on this one.
No bad news today I hope.
and has been bad at times. He has also been very very good for long stretches.Injuries played a big part in that as did his attitude, and I don't see them as a problem at the moment. While he didn't do well with the jags, it is a misrepresentation to say he was "awful". Let's be honest, he was mediocre. He simply wasn't worth what they were paying.
He may well suck and be buried on the depth chart, or even cut, but that would suprise me. His brains didn't just vanish, and he is healthy. He knows the system. He is motivated. If healthy, I'm convinced he contributes.
We could do a lot worse than Ross as a backup CB.

plans to move jpp 2 the left when he comes back
So it was hard to get a good view of things.
I hope kiwi and jpp end up winning the starting DE Jobs.
He's the only guy that moves like that -so impressive. Hosley did look pretty quick on a punt return though.
He really got the crowd going.
More than I would have thought. I wonder if they want to give him a legit shot to win the backup job. Just a thought.
to force him to watch the ball into his hands.
I saw him redeem himself later with a nice catch though.
I thought he could practice, but would be suspended once the season started?
maybe he practiced and I just didn't notice his name.
I guess you have a certain amount of time after they initially reach out to you to respond and get tested. He was in Georgia and for whatever reason did not get it taken care of. They have places you can go all over the country so it is not a good reason. Not sure if he wasn't checking messages and did not know about it or if he blew off or what, but whatever the case he didn't get himself tested.
Dumb dumb move for a guy with his background.
I'm not sure if I saw Hill or not (the defensive guys were not near me) but he can practice.
And thanks also to the tweeters and other contributors.
camp report? (hint, hint, hint)
I didn't write one because I was limited due to my 6 year old and missed a lot. It won't be very detailed, but will write up my impressions.
Anything would be appreciated! No worries if you don't. But if you do, please shoot a copy to info@bigblueinteractive.com and I'll post in the camp section.
1) I love the quote by Coughlin that Weatherford shared. Is this the mantra he will go with all season? Quotes like this always reaffirm why I love Coughlin.
2) I like Reese's comments and attitude to open camp.
3) What a great combo of HC and GM we have.
4) As a LB Kiwi was simply OK. But, last year, all over the DL he made big impact plays. It is great to see him back at DE. I don't care who starts or where. The trio of Tuck, JPP, and Kiwi is still one of the best in the league.
5) I have no problem with Cruz fielding punts. First of all, it seems like right now it is just as an emergency option. but, if he (or anyone else) is good at it, then let them go. field position is huge.
6) Building on #5, I absolutely want Wilson returning kickoffs, regardless of whether or not he starts.
