He looks slim compared to our other lineman...

He through 1st pitch out at YS earlier this year on a CC start, cc looked so much bigger than him both height and weight. Granted cc makes everyone look small, and he's built like a dt but it really wasn't close. At least on tha date I don't see how Pugh was more than like 280. I'm sure he's put some weight on since and obv will continue to in the next couple years with the team weight program.

I was reading Jason Fitzgerald's twitter feed (@Jason_OTC) a few days ago, and someone made a great point about the guaranteed 4th year.

If a GM doesn't guarantee a 4th year for a player, and it backfires on him (meaning that the player washed out), then it means that the GM should be fired anyway.

but that still looks like a pretty damn good contract for Pugh with all those guarantees.

it's got to be all solid muscle. Doesn't appear to have that typical olineman fat.

Glad they figured out a seating angle for him to be able to sign.

1st round on account of his short arms, but misunderestimated his technical ability, myself most definitely included. It looked like the Giants were targeting an O-Lineman early in the draft. After doing a mock first round, it looked like Fluker was going to go to either San Diego at 11 or Dallas at 18, so Fluker lasting to 19 wasn't realistic by the time draft day rolled around.

I thought Menelik Watson might be a guy to consider, but I should have heeded the words of Mike Mayock, who had Pugh going to the Giants at 19 in his last mock draft. I'm looking forward to see him use his technical skill at RT and maybe even LG this year. Hopefully it's the start of a long and fruitful career.

Pugh wasn't exclusively practiced at RT as a Giants so far. They also had him take snaps at LG. You know Coach Flats. He wants all his O-linemen to be versatile and all (I love Flats btw). He'll be the starting RT at some point this year IMO.

I'd guess Diehl starts the year, then when Pugh is ready around mid-season, he can transition into the job. Just my opinion of course. If Pugh is ready t start from day 1, and earned it by beating Diehl fair and square, sans injuries, then even better. As long as he earns it, I'm cool with it.

and you just made me think of something. Dollars to donuts (weird expression, huh) if Pugh is very good at RT during practice games, TC will still stubbornly start Diehl there and let Pugh "work his way in" later during the season.

by looking at these numbers too long but it looks like Pugh & his agent did a SPECTACULAR job on working out this deal. It looks basically like a 4 yr/$7.96m contract with ALL of it guaranteed.

Pugh (the 19th overall pick) supposedly got a partially guaranteed 4th year, with the only non-guaranteed portion being his 2016 roster bonus for $385,7770 bucks, as noted above, so not all of his contract was guaranteed. The issue with him was always the 4th year guaranteeing of his salary.

Pugh and his agent didn't do anything special here. They just waited to see what other picks in the vicinity of the 19th selection would do. There will come a day eventually when the entire first round gets their 4th year guaranteed.

(I noticed the $385K and just kind of threw it away, therefore saying it was basically all guaranteed.)

•Pugh got a signing bonus of $4,449,744 when he signed on Thursday.
•His base salary for the 2013 through 2016 seasons totals $3,510,384.
•That's a total of $7,960,128 NOT including the non-guaranteed portion of his 2016 salary, which takes the form of a roster bonus.

•If Pugh is on the 53-man roster in 2016, on either the 2nd or 3rd day after rosters are set, then he receives his roster bonus of $385,770.
•If he gets his roster bonus for making the team in 2016, then the total of the contract rises to $8,345,898 for 4 years, which it should pending Pugh stinking up the joint or being injured.

thanks, I was just confused because of the guaranteed salary part. I hadn't thought it was done that way in the past. Maybe it's the new CBA or something. Kind of like a trade off....guaranteed salary in exchange for bigger signing bonuses. Real money later for MORE real money today.

Anyway, this kid better be a player or we're on the hook for some pretty big dead money as soon as the end of '14.

This slotting system is the result of the new CBA. Things will change slightly now from year to year as a result of the new CBA with respect to the rookie signings.
