Anyone else surprised that Rogers is running with the two's and getting as may reps as he has in sub packages?
Given all the competition at DT and given his age and the fact that he is coming off a season on IR, I really just figured him for insurance against training camp injuries. I didn't think he had a realistic chance to make the final roster. Now I'm starting to wonder.
2) Who's he taking snaps from? LJ and Jenkins are the 1s, and Hankins is getting snaps alongside him. Kuhn is on PUP. Patterson is 30, coming off an injury, and even when healthy isn't the player Rogers is. That leaves Austin who's shown little to nothing so far and journeyman Okam. Those 2 need to earn their snaps.
Fifth DT probably winds up being Austin, with Rodgers the final cut unless they stash Kuhn on IR to keep Rodgers.
It makes sense to PUP Kuhn going into the season. There is a logjam at DT while everyone is healthy.
So while I share your enthusiasm for the 2013 DL, I can't say I'm any more enthusiastic than I've been in years past.
At DE - I still like Tuck a lot, but I think Kiwi will start over him (with JPP); Tuck, Tracy & Moore backing them up
At DT - Linval & Jenkins start with Rogers, Hankins and Austin back-ups
Austin gets cut IMO by Patterson if he Austin doesn't show anything to distinguish himself.
Agree that Shaun is Hankins special mentor.
If Rogers can hold up the OL, even in a periodic, 3rd DT kind of pairing rotation, and can really help the team. Solid 2nd and 3rd string DTs will let the DE's and blitzing safeties have lots of fun.
Offence is likely to have 26 (3rd QB). So the D will have 9 DB, 6LB, 9DL.
For as good as Osi was against the pass, boy was his shortcoming against the run just glaring. I feel like we don't have that anymore. Inside and out it would seem our guys are solid against the run and pass (in theory) (on paper).

Marvin makes team til MK comes off PUP, unless Austin finally 'gets it' If he doesn't he's gone; if he does, MK may do year on PUP.

You may have changed my mind about Patterson beating out Austin. If Austin turns it on, then they can IR Kuhn after he's eligible to rejoin the team when he's done on the PUP List between weeks 7 and 10. This way they keep 2 young DTs going into 2014.
20-30 would be plenty.
Right now its Patterson or Austin for that fifth spot IMO if its even there depending on the DTs.
and during our absolute peak
the very next play after rogers pile-drove eli into the ground, he blasted thru an o'hara/snee double team and slammed right into eli's knees
