Pictures & random notes from Camp today.

Umenyiora72 : 8/2/2013 8:17 pm
Pictures aren't the greatest as I had to shoot through a chain link fence and around the beat writers, pro photographers, and Giants.com video team. Therefore the clarity isn't great as the lens trys to focus on the fence rather than the players. I wasn't expecting such a big turnout today and when I arrived at 1:15 the bleachers were already filled. If any of you have a connection to get me into the VIP area for next week I'm all ears. :)

Camp highlights, lowlights, and random notes that I jotted down. Some may have been discussed already but here goes.

1. Hosley destroyed Laron Scott minutes into the hitting getting a lot of oooohs from the crowd.

2. On the first or second play from scrimmage Shaun Rodgers just missed landing on Wilson's knees. I saw it through my camera lens and almost threw up my lunch. I will post the picture below.

3. Hankins and Moore impressed the heck out of me. "Damonster" blew up a fullback early on for a stop behind the LOS.

4. Randle was once again a stand out. Eli hit him with a bomb down the left sideline where he was able to make the grab over Prince who hand him covered well. I was on the opposite sideline so couldn't see if he was in bounds but according to Sam Madison he was out. Sam was waving it off and clapping.

5. Barden made a few catches but on one down the right sideline in the 2 minute drill it looked as if he had cement in his shoes. Dude looked sllllloooooow.

6. Nassib looked very much like a rookie for most of the day but he had a perfect deep ball to Talley late in the practice.

7. At one point Cruz was coaching up Andre Brown in the end zone away from the action. It appeared Cruz was showing him positioning and "jukes" etc on how to shake free of a defender. Speculation on my part but thats how it appeared. See pics below.

8. Wilson took the first kickoff to the house with a burst down the left side that drew a loud roar from the crowd.

9. Eli missed Myers a couple times but on the second one he showed frustration with myers by signaling "you were supposed to cut in" with his right arm. My guess is Brandon ran wrong route

10. Tuck looks like he's more cut than last year. Noticeable difference if you ask me.

11. Mara and Reese were out on the field for most of the day watching.

12. Weatherford joined the D line in the autograph signing along with Jesse Armstead. Weatherford is a really great guy as he really worked the crowd to get to as many people as possible.

Thats all I got. I will be back out there next week for a few days. Enjoy the pics:

He is so big.

Linval is no joke either. We have some big bodies on the D-line.
Great shots, dude.

Rogers looks like 2 Tucks!
nice pics

...given the constraints on your lack of access, once you go on the longer lenses, shooting at an open aperture with a fast shutter speed really makes the players stand out and the foreground fencing is so out of focus it adds an interesting texture and is not obtrusive at all!
nice work, U -

Great job, I was at practice today and I concur the D line looks obsessed at stopping the run, very little room between the tackles for RBs to roam. Randle had another good day and Talley showed some good hands on a couple of long passes. Wilson as advertised shows he has great burst when he gets a seam. Overall a great day at the Timex practice field, thoroughly enjoyed the new digs.
Awesome pictures

Tuck is a gigantic man and looks like a child next to Rodgers, what a giant. Man, Patterson looks soft too whereas Austin looks good. Great to have some depth and competition at DT again.
Props go out to you Umenyiora72

Good job wish was there...
BTW - can someone tell me what the different colors caps mean?(like in last photo). I always see them in NFL team practices; don't know the diff. designation(s)...
Great shots!

That one of Rodgers about to fall on Wilson is pretty awesome!!

Were they all taken outside of the fence?

What camera and lens did you use? (if you don't mind me asking)

Great

Yes all pics were shot outside the fence which made it very difficult. That's why the clarity isn't real sharp.
This is awesome stuff.

Thanks, duder!
The different colors I. The caps don't mean anything g
fbdad : 8/2/2013 10:11 pm : link
The caps themselves are used when they're running special teams and mixing up offensive with defensive players. It's how you know who's on which team since you can't go by jersey colors in that situation. Only one side of the ball wears the caps
Thanks Umenyiora

Jeesh, talk about hold your breathe on that pic of Rogers falling onto Wilson.

Appreciate it all.
Great Pics U72.

Holy poop Batman, Shaun Rodgers is huge. Tuck is 280/285 and Rodgers looks twice as wide.
Randle is tall, looks more than two inches taller than Nicks and Cruz.
Whatever Cruz and Brown are talking about, they look pretty serious.

Umenyiora72 : 8/3/2013 8:04 am : link
as noted in my recap Cruz was teaching Brown about positioning and how to juke a defender. They spent a decent amount of time away from the action and Victor was coaching him up from a receiving perspective.
The pics are great!!

Umey, yeah I remember you
section125 : 8/3/2013 9:17 am : link
said that. Good point about VC coaching up from the receiving POV. Hope it means more passes to the RBs in the flats. Should be big holes behind the WRs with HN, VC, RR and Myers out there. LBs will be forced to watch the TE.
Regarding the caps
Jon from PA : 8/3/2013 9:22 am : link
The caps are there to designate which players are playing which position. Sometimes in the defense drills, defensive players will be playing offensive positions. I.e cb's will run plays as wr's. yellow cap would designate the cb is the we in that play. If I remember correctly green designated that player is a running back and red is a tight end. I may be wrong with the colors.
Speaking of VC and juking
eclipz928 : 8/3/2013 9:32 am : link
I would hope that somehow the Giants come back to using the end around play. I'm not sure why the Giants don't try to get the ball directly into Victor Cruz's hands - he's an amazing athlete in the open field.

They used the end around with Manningham to some extent when he was here, and it was somewhat effective, but since then it seems like it's been taken out of the playbook.
In the pic above with the caps
Jon from PA : 8/3/2013 9:35 am : link
it looks like they have Cox playing a defensive role so they have him wearing a cap to let everyone know what position he is playing.
Thanks

Rogers, Linval and Hankins look huge!!! Nice no more up the middle for an easy 5 yards

Except that Tuck is buffed and carrying maybe 280-285 to Strahan's 250#.

There's a difference between ripped and slim.
Awesome stuff U72
