Larry Donnell goes up for a pass from Painter in scout team and comes down HARD, grabbing left knee. Doesn't look good.
Sucks

Giants have stayed remarkably healthy this preseason. (so far)

He seemed to be really gaining momentum. Hope it's not major. Get better!

Larry. Don't be a hero and try to run on it before taking an MRI

Ben, dude, don't jinx it

Shame...
rptl530 : 8/16/2013 4:24 pm : link
despite the drops the other night I thought he really looked the part. Hope it's minor but doesn't sound good so far.
He was a longshot to make the final 53 before this
Bluenatic : 8/16/2013 4:26 pm : link
Now it'll take a miracle
With Myers, Robinson and Pascoe
Gman11 : 8/16/2013 4:27 pm : link
on the team his chances of making the 53 weren't all that great. So, now they have an excuse to stash him on IR.
Be careful on stashing players on IR who are marginla contributors at
Optimus-NY : 8/16/2013 4:29 pm : link
best. An Injury Settlement may also be very likely. It'll depend on the severity of the injury.
I don't know...
rptl530 : 8/16/2013 4:30 pm : link
maybe it was less than 50/50 but I thought his chances of making the first 53 were pretty decent, especially since he was getting reps in Hynoski's place.

He's a BIG dude.
I hope he's going to be ok but...
Torrag : 8/16/2013 4:31 pm : link

Stash him

I

think they'll stash him instead of giving him an injury settlement. I think they like him. But let's wait and see the extent of the injury.

Bannable offense by Ben IMO.

I second
BigBlueDownTheShore : 8/16/2013 4:41 pm : link
the ban!
Keep in mind that by stashing him oin IR, he'll still count against
Optimus-NY : 8/16/2013 5:06 pm : link
the cap for the year. His salary should split. Instead of counting $405,000 against the cap he'll only count $288,000 against it in 2013. This would save the Giants $117,000 against the cap in 2013.

The Giants will have to make another move or two to get under the regular season salary cap threshhold at the rate they're going with moves like this and the Injury Settlements for Antonio Dennard (done), and those of Kris Adams and Jeremy Horne (both are upcoming).
I forgot

Posters on BBi control the universe :-p boogie boogie boogie
He impressed me
KWALL : 8/16/2013 5:09 pm : link
He can be a pass catcher in the NFL. He was not only going to make the team he was (hopefully still is) a big part of the plans in 2013.

In the first preseason game he looked more athletic than Robinson.

KWALL : 8/16/2013 5:10 pm : link
On the first pass the defender was all over him. That should have been PI. The defender was grabbing his legs while he tried to go up for the ball.
KWALL...
rptl530 : 8/16/2013 5:23 pm : link
Fair enough. I haven't watched the game over and I was drinking so all I really remember is a "drop".

He really looks like an intriguing prospect though. Incredible size.

He looked very smooth, didn't he?
KWALL : 8/16/2013 5:30 pm : link
Very quick. He looked good going up for the ball on that pass but the defender fell at his legs and grabbed him as he went up for it.

This sucks. He was one of the best things about the first preseason game. I was really looking forward to seeing more.
I believe he was going to get cut anyway
Vegas Steve : 8/16/2013 6:05 pm : link
I'm sorry he was injuried I never want that to happen to anyone (unless he's a cowboy :-))

With our other 3 TE's there really wasn't a spot for him
The coaches have been indicating that...
Crispino : 8/16/2013 6:17 pm : link
he was very much in the mix for a roster spot.
Crispino is right
Optimus-NY : 8/16/2013 6:35 pm : link
I was rethinking him as a final addition to my 530man roster projection. I think that I was eventually going to add him to it too in place of Barden at WR. Donnell sounds and looks like he can play TE in the league.
He
Toth029 : 8/16/2013 7:05 pm : link
Was getting H-back spots on the 2nd team as well.

I'm confident they had something planned for him, and wouldn't have been surprised to see him make the roster.
Donnel
KWALL : 8/16/2013 7:18 pm : link
offers much more than Pascoe. He would have had a spot.
I'm not a Pascoe fan at all..
arcarsenal : 8/16/2013 7:33 pm : link
But the staff seems to like him.

Helps his case that he can play FB.. but he's just totally unimpressive for the most part.
If Donnell is IRd, then I think he becomes the new version of Bear
Optimus-NY : 8/16/2013 8:00 pm : link
Pascoe going forward into next year and beyond, w/Bear finally taking a hike.
Pope had talked about Donnell
gersh : 8/16/2013 8:03 pm : link
Like he was a lock to make the 53 - though, I must admit, that seemed unlikely otherwise.
gersh - the staff did indeed talk Donnell up a lot lately
Optimus-NY : 8/16/2013 8:07 pm : link
It led me to start to believe that he was going to make the team. I didn't completely buy in, but I was in the process of doing so until word of this afternoon's injury came down. Let's see what the severity of it is. Depending on that we'll then figure out what the next course of action is going to be (IR or Injury Settlement). IR may be the best route for both parties involved if it is in fact an ACL tear.
Donnell
stretch234 : 8/16/2013 9:35 pm : link
He was the 4th TE on a team that keeps 3. Where was he going to get snaps during the season. What more important player are you getting rid of if he stays. The coaches trust Pascoe

Read Pattie's report below to get an idea about Donnell. She's pretty clued in to the team.

Read my game preview...the Reese and Coughlin have been talking up Donnell.
Passoe is lucky....
geelabee : 8/17/2013 2:07 am : link
Up till this point...I was sure that Pascoe would have been amongst the final cuts...the guy is a 28-29 year old glorified blocker that knows the offense well...so the question is why keep a guy like that over a young kid with potential...if Donnell is hurt seriously....Pascoe gets a reprieve for a year....

Credit Dawg for digging this up, but hopefully it's true:

Caught up with Donnell's agent, @WesBridgesEsq. Sounds like there's no ACL tear, which is good news for the #Giants.
Now if Donnell has no ACL, it may actually complicate things
UberAlias : 8/17/2013 8:03 am : link
As others have pointed out, it does sound like they would like to keep him. As season ender makes it a no brainer to place him on IR and retain him as an up and coming player for next season. Remember, Myers is only on a one year deal. But if IR is not an option (and I suspect it is even if no actual ACL), they could end up having to cut him. The reason is, keeping 4 TEs is a lot. Donnell may be having a strong camp, but he is young and still needs work. If he is out for the rest of the preseason even if he can return at some point in the season, he won't get the work he needs and is doubtful to contribute anything this year outside of specials behind all these other TEs.

My guess is, with or without ACL, if it is serious, which I assume it is even if only MCL or some other non-ACL, he still goes to IR and we look forward to his return next spring.

I think they keep 5 WRs to make room for the 3rd QB. But I think they look for a way to keep one an extra DLine.
Give Conor Orr major props
