Adrian Tracy vs. Trattou/Ojomo

Andy in Boston : 8/19/2013 9:31 am
I know that the Giants really like this guy....based on everything you read, but to me Trattou and Ojomo are more productive. Ojomo and Trattou were very active last night and last week. Tracy had the good game against San Fran last year, but other than that, I just don't see it.

Thoughts?

Tracy vs. Ojomo IMO, and I'd go with Ojomo right now. But our LBs are so bad, I'd also try and keep Tracy as a DE/LB tweener.

I just don't see a place for Trattou or Broha.
Agree these guys have both played well

although against lesser competition later in the preseason games. I'd really like to see Tarttou and Ojomo get some snaps with the first/second team and see if it is just the level of competition making them look good, or whether these guys can be playmakers.
My opinion, reposted.

I like Trattou but I think Ojomo seems the better pass rusher

and more athletic of the two.

I know he's only been playing against backups but its not really fair to use that against him when he hasn't even been given the chance to go against the starters because they have 50 million defensive linemen on the roster.

When he's on the field, you know it. He led the team in sacks last preseason and could very well do it again this preseason. Scrubs or not, that has to count for something.

It would be a shame to see him go some place else and become a productive player right around the time where Tuck and Kiwi are entering the last leg of their careers as productive starters.

I know Tracy is the favorite and he's had a good camp (all 17 practices) and he has a cute little nickname but he hasn't had nearly the same impact or presence that Ojomo has.

They picked this guy up off the street. Every once in a while you get lucky with these street FA's and when you do, you should hold onto them.
Ojomo
Buck Dharma : 8/19/2013 9:39 am : link
They thought enough of him to keep him on the 53 man roster last year and he's played well thus far, so I suspect he'll be kept again this season.

I did think of that as well....maybe they just like the flexibility of Tracy. He just seems to get talked up alot....but you never see the guy make plays...although the action we see of him is limited; but its limited for Ojomo and Trattou as well....and they just flash more to me.

I think Tracy is a definite bubble player to make this team....again, unless they decide they're going to show alot of 3-4 this year, and if there are injuries to LB's...he can play LB. Moore can play LB too.

Problem is there's less room this season now that they added Moore. He made the roster last season to begin with mainly if I recall, due to injuries to Trattou and Tracy's hamstring.

I think he's earned it over those two so far this preseason though. If its REALLY an "open competition" like the coaches say that it is, he seems to be the better player of the three.

But we all know coaches often have their favorites.
Trattou
pjcas18 : 8/19/2013 9:47 am : link
was ahead of Ojomo on the depth chart last night, so unless you're assuming it's Tracy vs. Ojomo and Trattou is on the team I disagree.

And I think both Ojomo and Tracy make the team, but Trattou does not.

Reason for that is they'll keep less LB's this year with Kiwi back at DE.

At DE the Giants will keep 6 IMO: Tuck, JPP, Kiwi, Moore, Tracy, and Ojomo.

True, plus, it appears a roster spot will be spent on a 3rd QB which they didn't carry last season.
Trattou is the best player of the 3
NYGmen58 : 8/19/2013 9:50 am : link
He is stout against the run and a very good special teamer. They have to find a way to keep him over Tracy in my opinion.

Trattou got playing time with the 2nd D
njm : 8/19/2013 9:54 am : link
Went up for a part of the night against (relatively) better competition. Got a sack and held up against the run.

I don't think a lot of people are giving him his due.
I hate to ask this question, but with all of our

Promising talent at defensive end, is Tuck in danger of being cut?
Njm, Trattou made the roster 2 years

Ago, so I wouldn't rule him out.

Curtis, I think it's safe to say
barens : 8/19/2013 10:07 am : link
That the talent and promise at DE, far exceeds the talent at offensive tackle, and that's why Deihl is still around.
Point was that they aren't going with potential over
Curtis in VA : 8/19/2013 10:12 am : link
a proven veteran. Even if the veteran hasn't proven much of anything lately.

Plus, doesn't Tuck make like $4 million this year?
I'd like to see
Doomster : 8/19/2013 10:19 am : link
Ojomo play against better competition....also, he seems to play better from the right side than the left side.....

Not impressed with Trattou, with what he does out there.....

But when you talk about these three, they are a huge dropoff from the starters....
You gents are drawing your conclusions on a relatively small sample
JonC : 8/19/2013 10:26 am : link
size, and Trattou/Ojomo are getting their reps against backups in exhibition games. Tracy has been very good doing the job given to him, it doesn't always wind up reflected by sacks and tackles. Coaches and players have raved about Tracy, it is his job to lose.

There's simply no room for any of the other three, Moore takes the roster spot that Trattou or Ojomo had gotten in past seasons.
I don't think anyone is comparing them to starters.
Curtis in VA : 8/19/2013 10:26 am : link
But they could be great rotational players. Certainly better than Dave Tollefson.
That was to Doomster.

Curtis, the Giants are one of the most loyal organizations in the NFL,
barens : 8/19/2013 10:30 am : link
And that's one of the reasons why I'm such a big fan. I'm also a big Tuck fan, and I'd like to see if he can improve his play from the past couple of years. But, he's already had some trouble with his back, and now his hammy, and thats to go along with the multiple injuries hes had over the last few years. I'm just struggling to believe he's going to be anywhere near the player he once was.
Tuck has looked much like his old self
JonC : 8/19/2013 10:31 am : link
getting and staying healthy is the key for him, of course.
barens,
Curtis in VA : 8/19/2013 10:34 am : link
its one of the reasons I'm a fan as well.

I don't doubt Tuck has the ability to handle the job, but I question his durability.
I didn't think Tracy
Joe in Cambridge : 8/19/2013 10:35 am : link
played all that well yesterday. It looked like he was taking himself out of plays trying to run around the OT. Kind of like bad Osi.
Tuck looks "young again."
Big Blue '56 : 8/19/2013 10:35 am : link
After awhile I kept saying to myself, "okay, he appears healthy now, rest him until the season starts." Impractical of course, but a fan's fervent wish..;)

I agree with most of what you wrote except the space.

Last year for example the Giants kept 7 LB's. I don't expect them to do that again this year with the group currently on the roster, I think they'll keep 6, and the extra spot will go to a DE or DT (someone like Ojomo or Austin/Patterson).

So, in theory both Ojomo and Tracy (for example - the 5th and 6th DE's) I think can make it.
pj
JonC : 8/19/2013 10:39 am : link
I think they'll keep 5 DE and 5 DT, potentially out of the gate. I see a lot of hustle from Trattou but doubt another team would rush to sign him off our PS, same with Ojomo as he's really done very little this camp, and his attitude is apparently part of the problem.

The question for me is do they keep 9 OL and/or 10 DL?

6 LB + Zak is awfully lean, but I'd do it given the line talent we have on both sides of the ball.
Is Trattou PS eligible?
pjcas18 : 8/19/2013 10:43 am : link
Either way, I agree.

DT definitely seems to have a lot of able bodies, deepest I can recall that position in a long, long time and maybe the versatility of guys like Jenkins, the DT who can play DE means DT gets the extra spot.

Could go either way.
Tollefson
Toth029 : 8/19/2013 10:45 am : link
Was a trooper. Played inside, outside, and Specials. We have backups who can't do all that yet.

That's one thing they have liked Tracy for, however Moore's been an asset there recently.
Tollefson
pjcas18 : 8/19/2013 10:53 am : link
though a fan favorite(?) was terrible. He was totally a one-trick pony (pass rush) and that one trick was not that great. He was a severely lesser version of Osi.

I know people here hate PFF, but PFF had Tolly as the absolute worst, dead last 4-3 DE his last year with the Giants. So even if you don't like them, they recognized his awfulness.
Trattou is practice squad eligible
njm : 8/19/2013 10:55 am : link
Ojama as well.
I wonder how Trattou and Ojomo
Damon : 8/19/2013 10:55 am : link
would do against Diehl...
Just based on hustle and a solid skillset
JonC : 8/19/2013 11:02 am : link
I'd like to see them keep Trattou, but the roster numbers are his enemy unless there's an injury.
