I'm hoping to see someone other than Diehl get some serious reps in with the 1st team this week.
Per Mike G
MattHofstra : 8/20/2013 11:29 am : link
Pugh going to RT, Diehl to Guard, Boothe to Center while Baas out
also
MattHofstra : 8/20/2013 11:30 am : link
Cruz is in a walking boot and crutches..hopefully it's precautionary and the Giants just want him to stay off it as much as possible
I guess that's good news..

Diehl to Guard is not good news.

Cruz

Ralph Vacchiano @RVacchianoNYDN 3m

Whoa! Unexpected, and not good ... RT @ebenezersamuel Cruz on crutches and a walking boot today
Baas
jeff57 : 8/20/2013 11:33 am : link
Ralph Vacchiano @RVacchianoNYDN 1m

RT @ebenezersamuel Baas on crutches too . Left knee in thick black brace
Didn't
AcidTest : 8/20/2013 11:34 am : link
we already try the Diehl to guard experiment, only to see it fail miserably? Didn't Reese say that Diehl is not a guard?

Does Boothe going to center mean that Cordle is in jeopardy?
Why is Cruz not good?
robbieballs2003 : 8/20/2013 11:35 am : link
Did he expect something else? He has a bruised heel. If you don't want pressure on it then he needs to be on crutches. Any foot injury is usually treated with a boot as a precautionary response. Rolle is the exception.
What about Brewer at G?
drkenneth : 8/20/2013 11:35 am : link
Didn't he get time there late last year?
on Baas
MattHofstra : 8/20/2013 11:35 am : link
RT @ebenezersamuel Baas says it is indeed realistic to be ready by Dallas game
I almost wonder if
santacruzom : 8/20/2013 11:36 am : link
they'll give Diehl reps at backup quarterback before he sees the bench.
Ralph is always so doom and gloom
MattHofstra : 8/20/2013 11:36 am : link
Vic expects to be ready for the season opener, just said
Those who are down on Diehl should take this as good news.
Big Blue Blogger : 8/20/2013 11:37 am : link
If Pugh performs, DD goes to the bench when Baas returns, which should be soon.
2013 Snee and Diehl have to be the worst pass protecting
nomad1986 : 8/20/2013 11:37 am : link
starting guards in the NFL. Poor Eli.
unfking real
BigBluePrestige : 8/20/2013 11:39 am : link
re: Diehl to Guard. They do, in fact, want to kill Eli. Don't be surprised to see Diehl get completely manhandled by a DT and end up on his ass the entire game.

Tells you a lot
MattHofstra : 8/20/2013 11:39 am : link
about Cordle also..Mitch Petrus around anywhere?
DD.....
BillKo : 8/20/2013 11:39 am : link
can't play guard at this point. He is not quick enough, and most importantly, not strong enough to move DT's.

Our run game was horrible with DD at guard.

Hopefully Brewer can impress enough to move DD out.

I do think Boothe is our best center.
I don't know about snee
OPBigBlue00 : 8/20/2013 11:39 am : link
when healthy he's been pretty damn good
Mosely > Diehl
BigBluePrestige : 8/20/2013 11:39 am : link
.
Diehl might do less damage at G than at T
jeff57 : 8/20/2013 11:40 am : link
.
I thought Cordle did okay when he came in for Baas.
Klaatu : 8/20/2013 11:40 am : link
But if they'd rather slide Boothe over to center, I'd rather have Mosley at LG.
however...
BillKo : 8/20/2013 11:40 am : link
this is a step in the right direction...getting the #1 pick at RT is a good thing.
Coughlin
AcidTest : 8/20/2013 11:42 am : link
would apparently throw himself in front of a bus to save Diehl. Diehl is not a guard. He's not anything at this point. He's been a warrior, and a great Giant, but it's done.

@MikeGarafolo

"Source says the plan to replace Baas in the lineup right now is to bring in rookie first-rounder Justin Pugh at RT. Diehl moves inside to OG"

@MikeGarafolo

"Oh and Kevin Boothe slides over from guard to center"

I feel like DD at guard has more to do with
robbieballs2003 : 8/20/2013 11:45 am : link
how they feel about DD as a person then how they evaluate the players' play.
Diehl
pjcas18 : 8/20/2013 11:47 am : link
has a cast on his hand

still starting at guard. He must have pictures of TC doing something bad.
The cast on the hand gives him magic power
jeff57 : 8/20/2013 11:50 am : link
Not due to an injury.
Jerry Reese needs to step in
GiantsFan84 : 8/20/2013 11:53 am : link
and cut David Diehl to save the fucking coaches from themselves. And to save the franchise quarterback from getting hurt

Reese needs to be held accountable too because many of us here on BBI were saying not to being back Diehl at any salary because the coaches will play him.
why
OPBigBlue00 : 8/20/2013 11:54 am : link
even move him to guard if he has a cast...
....
chrispisano66 : 8/20/2013 11:55 am : link
The Diehl situation has gotten really frustrating and I was probably one of his biggest supporters on the site. I don't think he's had anything to offer these last 2 years since the most recent SB run.

I like the Boothe and Pugh moves with Baas on the shelf, I just think Mosely deserves the 1st team reps. He's earned it. And unlike Diehl, he will hopefully be a big piece of the O-line moving forward.

Diehl is no longer deserving of starting position, probably not even a roster spot either.
If Pugh is even a marginal improvement at RT
okayrene : 8/20/2013 11:56 am : link
I think it'd be a very solid combination. LG is probably the safest position on the OL.
Our running game
Brandon Walsh : 8/20/2013 11:56 am : link
is very dependant on active guards, being able to pull, trap, etc. David Diehl does not have that ability anymore. This makes almost less sense then him somehow playing right tackle.
I want Diehl Gone
okayrene : 8/20/2013 11:56 am : link
but he can do the least damage at LG, is what I meant to say.
Damn.
yatqb : 8/20/2013 11:58 am : link
TC's continued confidence in DD is really getting ridiculous. At this point I really doubt that Brewer or Mosley could beat out DD even were they to grade higher than him.
Given Mosley's Play of Late and Boothe's Past Success at Center
OntheRoad : 8/20/2013 11:59 am : link
I am wondering if the best line is Beatty, Mosley, Boothe, Snee, and Pugh.
I'd love to see Mosley earn a spot in the lineup.
Big Blue Blogger : 8/20/2013 12:00 pm : link
The key word is earn. He spent his rookie year on IR, and has a lot to prove/learn. He does seem to be a potential successor to Boothe at LG, and appears to have some Seubert in him. I just don't think there's time to get him ready for the opener. Reshuffling the line at this stage is hard enough without inserting another virtual rookie in addition to Pugh.

While Diehl might get whipped physically, I think that's less likely to get Eli killed than mental breakdowns by inexperienced linemen. This is a temporary patch to get through Baas's absence. The glass is half-full: Diehl is no longer on an island, and he's halfway to the bench.
This...

This is good news and is more about Pugh than Diehl.

Snee was hurt last year. The guy is a Pro Bowl caliber Guard. Chill on Snee.
David Diehl-bogeyman
HomerJones45 : 8/20/2013 12:06 pm : link
you guys need to watch some other teams once in a while.

Brewer sucks. He's entering his third season, the team has tried him in several difference spots, and he has yet to crack the starting lineup or prove he is anything other than OL depth. Put Moseley and that McCants in the same category.

This is Mitch Petrus all over again. Everyone here was certain he should be a starter, he had all these attributes, and where is he now? Out of football.
SMH, and then you will have a full on fellatio of posters asking
Mason : 8/20/2013 12:06 pm : link
about what unwavering loyalty. What gets me is that they bring up Bradshaw to try to prove that the coach is not loyal before the team. Yet, it was the GM that made the decision to cut AB and the others not Coughlin which the head coach noted when it happened.

No more complaining from me about DD because it is now on the GM to babysit his coach and be the bad guy. As Tuck said he wouldn't want Jerry Reese's job when referring to the cuts of AB, Boley and Canty.

Wow, some really awful posts here.
barens : 8/20/2013 12:07 pm : link
Deihl had a couple of bad plays, what's going to happen when Pugh misses a few assignments, or gets beat, which he will.
Be careful BBB
Brandon Walsh : 8/20/2013 12:08 pm : link
with the way this coaching staff handles Diehl, when Baas is ready, they may put our 2nd best OL in Boothe on the bench and leave Diehl at guard.
The Snee criticisms are warranted
robbieballs2003 : 8/20/2013 12:09 pm : link
He has not been good for a couple of years. Hopefully the surgery did the trick but being voted into a Pro-Bowl doesn't mean shit. In '07 I think we only had a couple of pro-bowlers while Dallas had like 10. A pro-bowl is not a good way to justify your point. Nobody wants to see Snee or DD fail (ok, maybe some do) but any criticism towards either of them is warranted until proven otherwise. The NFL stands for not for long and this league is all about what have you done for me lately. Don't confuse criticizing a player with not appreciating what a player has meant to this organization. Both players have meant a lot and nobody can take that away. That doesn't mean we should be lining up Lawrence Talyor and Phil Simms right now. Well, maybe LT is still better than our current LB.
The real news is what was not done
WideRight : 8/20/2013 12:11 pm : link
Moving DD to LG doesn't change who he is. Stop whining and admire loyalty in a game where there can very little at times.

The real news is that Cordle didn't win the center position. Brewer did not win RT, and nobody won LG, yet.

Thats all pretty interesting to me. Its not too late, but I'd sure like to see some guys step up.
