List of available Free Agents still on the market

Optimus-NY : 8/20/2013 10:39 am
Here's the list of players still available on offense and defense courtesy of the thesidelineview.com by Adam Caplan:

I. OFFENSE & SPECIAL TEAMS

II. DEFENSE

Are there any interesting players on this list for the Giants in your opinion (i.e., a 4th RB, a backup interior O-Linemen? perhaps a Center? A backup OLB?).

Charlie - bring him back!
Theres a lot of decent
Young Elijah : 8/20/2013 10:44 am : link
players on that list. Im a bit shocked actually, I wonder how many of them actually get on a team roster in the next 2 weeks?
So, let's be truthful...
pganut : 8/20/2013 10:46 am : link
...how many of us went straight to the available OL section?
Thanks for the list Optimus

It's fantastic!
I totally did

I went straight to Oline
RB^2 : 8/20/2013 11:04 am : link
and then to linebackers.
Amazing how many "names" are on there

I guess when your career goes downhill, it goes down fast.
How is Brandon Lloyd still out there?

??
Hope Reese has some steel toe'd boots.

Cruz hes got a shitload of tires to kick...
So none of those middle backers
Curtis in VA : 8/20/2013 11:09 am : link
are as good as Mark Herzlich or Dan Connor.

k.
I really thought Petrus was going to work out for us...
drkenneth : 8/20/2013 11:10 am : link
Sigh...
As a result of the new CBA, players who can still play, but who are
Optimus-NY : 8/20/2013 11:16 am : link
overpriced at fungible positions (Willis McGahee at RB is the perfect example) get left out of the party when it comes to finding a job come the start of the regular season.

Keep in mind that many of these players will be teams' "short lists" come the regular season should injuries arise. Clubs bring in players for workouts on Tuesday when the players are off all the time during the season. After week 1, it'll become easier for these guys to get jobs because at that point their contracts are not guaranteed for the season.

Fantastic post. Be champions!
I guess Eric Winston got $5.5 million from the Cards
njm : 8/20/2013 11:38 am : link
Not enough cap room for the G-Men to sign him.
Beckum still available
snumber6 : 8/20/2013 11:42 am : link
Darn I was hoping for a 3rd round compensatory pick for his loss ...
Petrus's NFL career highpoint...
SB : 8/20/2013 11:43 am : link
...was his 45 reps of the bench press at the combine.
njm - Eric Winston signed dirt cheap compared to what he was looking
Optimus-NY : 8/20/2013 11:50 am : link
for originally after the Chiefs cut bait with him. He has a 2013 cap# of $2 M.

The Cardinals signed him, Karlos Dansby (2013 cap# of $2.25 M), & John Abraham (2013 cap# of $1.6 M) at pretty good rates compared to what they were looking for as well. Check it Winston's contractual breakdown below from overthecap.com below:

I thought Becky would wind up in New England after the Hernandez
Optimus-NY : 8/20/2013 11:51 am : link
situation went down. There's still time for these guys to find gigs.
My first thought in looking at this list was
Jeffro : 8/20/2013 11:53 am : link
Why haven't the Jets signed some of these RBs and WRs with what they have on their roster?
I got bad info from Google
njm : 8/20/2013 11:54 am : link
Now I'm wondering why they didn't sign him. Pugh? Did they think Diehl still had gas in the tank? Was the price higher if he came to NY?

I think they could have dug up $2 mil. in cap space.
Signing players depends on team cap room
Optimus-NY : 8/20/2013 11:58 am : link
Check out the latest article on the subject I wrote up now, and check to see who has room and who doesn't.

Official Salary Cap Space for all 32 Teams – as of August 18, 2013 - ( New Window )
I had to look up fungible
mrvax : 8/20/2013 11:59 am : link
I suppose it's like "plug and play"?

It's probably asking too much to get a MLB off that list and expect him to become knowledgeable enough to start in Fewell's D. Any OC free agents that can still walk might be brought in.

I don't think so

Patriots need a TE who will actually be on the field during games.

Optimus-NY : 8/20/2013 12:23 pm : link
I've heard that term (meaning basically easily interchangeable) used to describe the Rb position so often that it just stuck. No wonder teams don't spend money on the position anymore. It's not worth it when you can just find players anywhere to play the position. It's a pass-first league now, with one of the most important things a RB being able to do is pass block.

Remember when the Colts got Joseph Addai in the draft back when the won the SB in '06 I think? He wasn't anything special with the ball in his hands, and he was a good receiver at the position, but where he really excelled was blitz recognition and pick-up. He was like that at LSU (essentially the opposite of our guy David Wilson).

LOL about Beckum by the way. He really is useless. We're not getting any MLBs at this point. The MLB I wanted this offseason was Daryl Smith. The Outside concerns me more quite frankly.
Nick Barnet
geemanfan : 8/20/2013 12:26 pm : link
Signed with the Skins
If a player is on the list, there is very little chance they will ever
JohnB : 8/20/2013 12:38 pm : link
make it back to the NFL because on Aug 27th that list will grow and keep growing until final cuts. This list it truly the bottom of the barrel.
geemanfan - That's right; good catch
Optimus-NY : 8/20/2013 1:02 pm : link
Ex Barnett off of this list.
...
26.2 : 8/20/2013 1:37 pm : link
some of these guys might be hurt and/or unable to pass a physical and they know it and other teams know it. I would think if Locklear was healthy we would have been at least one of his suiters.
Agree with Curtis
Reese's Pieces : 8/20/2013 3:41 pm : link
Giants can't find a MLB better than Herzlich or Connor. Are they really going to start the season with one of these?

They might as well have kept Blackburn. No Pro Bowl in his future, but he is cheap, smart, makes some big plays, and is a member of the two ring club.
I'd wait until week 2 and then bring Deuce Lutui in
andrew_nyg : 8/20/2013 4:15 pm : link
and work him into the interior OL
Some of those guys will be picked up after the 1st regular season game
Occam'sRazor : 8/20/2013 5:12 pm : link
My understanding is, if they're on the team for the 1st game, their full salary for the year is guaranteed. If they join the team after the 1st game, it becomes week to week.
If it was up to
Fish : 8/20/2013 5:20 pm : link
Some here on BBI Ross would be on that list and diehl should definitely be on that lst
Occam'sRazor - that is correct sir
Optimus-NY : 8/20/2013 5:25 pm : link
.
There are some desperate teams
LauderdaleMatty : 8/20/2013 10:05 pm : link
at WR already. Someone will pick up Lloyd eventually. Teams want to see if a young rookie or 2nd year guy can step up first before being on the hook for the full amount of a vet minimum.
wasn't there an outcry

for the giants to sign kirk Morrison(lb) a season or 2 ago?why can't he find a team?
How many of those OL's on the list
ed90631 : 8/20/2013 10:57 pm : link
are better than Dave Diehl?
Also, did TO retire.
ed90631 : 8/20/2013 10:58 pm : link
He's not on the list.
I'm surprised
