Diehl is the man but Eli is the franchise and Diehl was not the answer at tackle. Hopefully Pugh is ready, he should have the feet to handle speed but I really wonder if he'll be strong enough as a rookie to handle the more powerful ends in the league.
great news

Diehl is still on this team?
Geomon : 8/20/2013 12:18 pm : link
Diehl has a cast on his hand today.
81_Great_Dane : 8/20/2013 12:20 pm : link
Can't he be moved to backup guard?

In fairness, though, ya gotta love his vesatility. He can play badly at four different OL positions.
i thought it was a joke
nygirlie : 8/20/2013 12:21 pm : link
DD will once again be a sieve at LG no doubt...now that he has lost weight.

Cordle did not shine vs the Colts.

Maybe Brewer will step in at LG?
cut Carr next

thought we were going to have to diehl with a shitty right tackle.
gun snaps

i like boothe better than d.baas at C w/exception of gun snaps
This had to be done
Mark from Jersey : 8/20/2013 12:23 pm : link
Really like Diehl and what he has done for this team over his career but it has become obvious that he now has limitations.
i don't like

and isolated on the o-line. Diehl wasn't wasn't that bad. We all saw the play he got beat on, but he was pretty solid most of the time. Saw him push his man around, and open some holes.

Baas looked great - on Wilson's 14 yd 1st quarter run, Baas took out a DT and also the MLB. Hope he comes back soon.

Excellent news
Phil from WNY : 8/20/2013 12:27 pm : link
If Pugh can play reasonably well at RT and show continued improvement, then Diehl is pretty much stuck inside. Also, if Moseley continues to play well on the inside, it's not inconceivable that he can beat out Diehl over the next few weeks.

Diehl didn't play well at RT and it's possible that this is his final opportunity to start. It sucks because he's been a great Giant over his career but Father Time has caught up to him.
so, diehl is still a better option at lg
fame56 : 8/20/2013 12:29 pm : link
than mosely or cordle?..capers and herman probably arent making the final 53 anyway
Hopefully Pugh plays well enough at RT
JonC : 8/20/2013 12:29 pm : link
to give them no choice but to leave here for good, even after Baas returns.
Um, no.

DD's tape from the last 1.5 seasons."

Actually, they got around to having as rookie right tackle who wasn't coming off of 11 days out with a concussion. They drafted a tackle in the first round, and dozens of people on BBI still think they were being "too loyal" to Diehl, or something silly like that.
The big news here is what it says about Pugh
cosmicj : 8/20/2013 12:30 pm : link
The coaching staff has already decided he can play, even if there are some developmental bumps.
David Done Diehl
Chef : 8/20/2013 12:31 pm : link
I used to think BBI was pretty hard on him but after yet another BBI Diehl bashing session yesterday I decided to rewatch the game yesterday and focused exclusivley on Diehl.

That guy is an absolute turnstlye out there and really should not be in the NFL anymore.. simply atrocious
that is fantastic
nyynyg : 8/20/2013 12:32 pm : link
hopefully, it takes a lot of pressure off Diehl's feet. Glad to get Diehl out of RT though, that is a first step...

i just rewatched the 1st half... DD was passable. ..he has picked up a bad habit of releasing from his block after a second or so... but he sure is slow on PP vs the outside or even inside rush. ..he also seemed to have blocked the wrong man twice. ..and he got TE help a lot.
it was a joke

Also might save a roster spot
JonC : 8/20/2013 12:34 pm : link
as I'd prefer Boothe be the backup rather than spend a roster spot on Cordle instead of keeping a more talented OG prospect.
Thank God!
David in LA : 8/20/2013 12:36 pm : link
I'm looking forward to seeing Pugh grab that RT position by the vice grips. I thought he had a very nice showing this past weekend.
I hope JonC is right:

Handwriting is on the wall for Jim Cordle.
Big Blue Blogger : 8/20/2013 12:36 pm : link
Center is his only strength, and the staff changes three positions to eliminate any possibility of Cordle starting against Dallas.

In part, this reshuffle is a dignified way to ease Diehl toward the bench in a sixth (or seventh) man role. More immediately, though, it's a really bad sign for Cordle, and an indication that the team sees OL as a place to save a roster spot by relying on Boothe's versatility instead of carrying a backup center.
The most amazing
pjcas18 : 8/20/2013 12:37 pm : link
thing about this is that Boothe can actually snap the football past his gigantic odd shaped ass and be consistently accurate.
Jon, I agree with that
David in LA : 8/20/2013 12:38 pm : link
I pointed out the other week that I think Cordle might be expendable since Boothe always slides over to center, and that Brewer and Mosley's progress makes it even more so now.
Or, what JonC said about Cordle.

yes, but who will be the backup C while Baas is out for 6 weeks or so?

They need Cordle.
Great thread to come back to from lunch.

Here we go!
Diehl is even worse at Guard than at Tackle
nomad1986 : 8/20/2013 12:42 pm : link
if what Snee showed vs. the Colts is what he's got left the Giants have the two worst pass protecting Guards in the NFL.
FWIW
pjcas18 : 8/20/2013 12:44 pm : link
Baas tweeted Snee and said he'd be back in a couple weeks.

.
arcarsenal : 8/20/2013 12:45 pm : link
Does this mean they're putting Boothe at C until Baas gets back? I have to believe that Boothe is better than Cordle.. and Boothe is absolutely a better LG than Diehl. So logically, Diehl should be out of a spot when Baas returns.. but I can't assume the Giants will do that.
A little decorum, please?
jcn56 : 8/20/2013 12:45 pm : link
I've been on the 'time to replace Diehl' bandwagon for some time, but it looks like it's happening now, no need to dump on a guy who's been a good player for us for a pretty long time.
I'm a little surprised given Pugh's limited practice time
BillT : 8/20/2013 12:45 pm : link
But glad to see this. Wonder if Mosley has a chance to unseat Diehl at LG.
this is good
TommyWiseau : 8/20/2013 12:46 pm : link
move, now if Baas come's back healthy I would not be shocked to see Diehl move back to RT and Pugh back on the bench no matter how well he may be playing. Just the Coughlin way
I wonder if center is the best place for Baas, when he returns.
Beez : 8/20/2013 12:47 pm : link

If Boothe is doing well, and POugh is holding his own, I wonder if it's even a thought to try Baas at Diehl's guiard spot. Didn't Baas polay a fair amount of guard before moving the center just before joining the Giants?

Phil from WNY : 8/20/2013 12:47 pm : link
My sentiments exactly. Diehl deserves the utmost respect for his contributions to the Giants.
