A few guys that stood out to me.

kmed : 8/30/2013 7:52 am
1. Shaun Rogers. I thought he looked amazing. Consistently moving the line into the backfield and getting pressure. In fact, all if the beef in the middle stood out, Patterson too. The DT position seems to be much improved this season.

2. Torain. He didn't do a ton, but he runs hard and I think he can fill browns role early in the season.

3. Painter. I think he's passed Carr.

4. Donnell. Big body, can block a bit, I think he'll have a nice role on this team.

5. Tebow. Lol
Agree about Rogers.

I hope that somehow we go with 6 DTs(have Jenkins take up one of the DE designations perhaps)..Yes, we'll only dress 3 but this was our achilles heel and appears quite fortified with these guys. This way they can all practice and be plucked from inactive without missing a beat if necessary..I hope TC does this. At what expense? They're the experts..

For the very first time I really feel empathy for Tebow..He really is a terrible QB
While Scott has not impressed much.....I thought he flashed some goods
GiantBlue : 8/30/2013 8:01 am : link
on the TD drive where he ran twice and then caught the flat pass for the TD.
I just see Scott as more of a Wilson type
kmed : 8/30/2013 8:03 am : link
and not a guy that can do the things brown does(third downs and short yardage).
Even with the early muff
mushroom : 8/30/2013 8:03 am : link
thought James looked good on specials. Any comments on his play as DB?

Donnell did ok but after all the talk would have liked to have seen more from Robinson

Cox looked good on specials but on O he has to learn to go North-south instead of bumping it to the outside on runs rather a one yd gain than a 4 yd loss.

Pugh looks like a 1st round pick. Lets see how he does when the real bullets fly.

Brewer at guard yes at Left tackle no. Would he be any better at RT and by default is Pugh our backup LT?
I should also point out that this isn't just about
kmed : 8/30/2013 8:04 am : link
last night but last night and the preseason as a whole.
I know linval is FA
Neverend : 8/30/2013 8:04 am : link
But I sometimes forget hankins is on the team. Looks like itll be a DL year for him
Mushroom, great call.
kmed : 8/30/2013 8:05 am : link
I meant to include Pugh, my bad. He looked really good, a big upgrade over deihl, IMO.
Oh and loved
mushroom : 8/30/2013 8:08 am : link
Wilson's toughest after contact. We all know about his homerun ability but he looked good btwn the tackles also and his pass blocking is getting there
How about the D.B.'s
Tark10 : 8/30/2013 8:16 am : link
I've been pulling for T2, but Macbride looks sharp in coverage.

I thought did well:

Brewer at guard, although he did better at tackle in the second half. But it's nice to see that he can contribute.

Pugh also played well.

Rogers and Patterson. What amazes me about Rogers is how much hustle he has in chasing down plays. I'd keep both.

Trattau, but I think he's still a cut. I would take him over Tracy, Ojomo, and Broha if there is a roster spot available.

James, despite his muff. McBride as well.
Still loving Trattou
Randy in CT : 8/30/2013 8:18 am : link
who probably won't make the numbers...
Trattou is the best of the Tracy, Ojomo, Broha-ha bunch
Optimus-NY : 8/30/2013 8:35 am : link
Too bad he'll most likely not be in the 53-man. Dude can play. I wish they could find a way to keep him.
Torain had some nice blocks
Motley Blue : 8/30/2013 8:36 am : link
Didn't hesitate to meet his man in the hole and showed good toughness, getting right in his mans face.

It'd be nice to keep Donnell. I'd like for him to continue to work with Pope. He looks like he can develop into a nice all around TE.

Pugh has great feet and his technique looks pretty solid for a rookie. Now make him stronger.

Will Hill.
arcarsenal : 8/30/2013 8:37 am : link
Dude is a demon on ST's and I think he can be a pretty good safety, too. He's a great athlete. Just needs more experience.
I thought the entire
GIANTSr01 : 8/30/2013 8:43 am : link
1st string OL looked solid, especially in pass protection. Eli definitely looked more comfortable in the pocket as Q1 progressed.
agree on all counts...
Capt. Don : 8/30/2013 8:43 am : link
Before Robinson went down I was going to call Pascoe as a surprise cut bc of Donnell.
Rogers, Patterson, Pugh and Mundy
jeff57 : 8/30/2013 8:44 am : link
I like how Mundy plays the run.
Will Hill
Headhunter : 8/30/2013 9:02 am : link
Mike Patterson, Pugh, Herzlich , Charles James
Haven't gone through it, play by play,
Beez : 8/30/2013 9:04 am : link
but Pugh - especially for a rookie - is not disappointing.
#62 Herman
Dave : 8/30/2013 9:04 am : link
seemed to be effective at LG

and #72 Pugh looked just fine at RT

to me
In defense of Brewer, and it may not be justified
Bob in Newburgh : 8/30/2013 9:24 am : link
Some people can only learn concentrating on one thing. If Brewer is that type, Giants are handling him about as poorly as possible with all the position switching.

Yes, it is possible for someone to be good at one position if his only position, but bad at the same position if it is just one of four he is playing.
Players
stretch234 : 8/30/2013 9:37 am : link
Rogers - he can still push the pocket against the double team and still can move for a 350lb guy. Patterson has gotten a consistent push the whole preseason. Even Austin has pushed the pocket.

Due to Jenkins being able to play DE, I keep all 6, especially with JPP coming back and Moore banged up.

Looking at the DE, Tracy has really underwhelmed after being talked up all camp. Trattou has looked the more consistent player. Ojomo to me is player who does nothing for the majority of plays, gets a sack and gets all the credit, while Trattou does more on almost every play.

Brewer looks really good on the inside and really played much better LT as things wore on. However, he really is not a LT. Pugh has LT footwork - he really seems to be in excellent position most plays
I feel
NJGiantFan84 : 8/30/2013 9:50 am : link
like Torrain is 75% of Brown. And I think that is acceptable. He will fill in fine if he is the one they want. This season to me is on the two lines. If we create time and space offensively, we will be fine. if we get to the QB defensively, we will be fine.

I think Pattersen is the odd man out, despite how good he has looked. He and Rogers are very similar, big bodied guys there to stuff the run and get to the QB. I don't think they cut ties w/ Austin just yet.

I don't think they keep more than 9 DL, so that leaves Moore, Tuck, Jpp and Kiwi at DE, Hankins, Alford, Austin, Rogers and Jenkins at DT.

I thought Herzlich played another nice game, not only on defense but he is always right there for Special teams. Is he a starter? Not right now, but i think he is more of a solid back-up than people give him credit for, especially given that most opinions were formed after the 1st pre-season game (when he played awful). It's his third year, and his first two were riddled w/ injury. I think he will get more snaps than people expect him to and continue to improve.

Pugh looks tough. He dominated third string guys which is good to see. I don't think he'll dominate that way in real games, but you see the potential.

The communication on O-Line seemed greatly improved.

Man, Eli & Randle are just not in sync. I expect big things from him, but they just aren't connecting.

Nicks looked great. beating his man a number of times and always has the great hands.

Myers looked good. he knows how to get open. The 2 offsides were bad, but I think he didn't get Nassib's cadence. I'd be more concerned if he did it while ELi was in there.

Too many injuries right now. 6 Starters have been injured so far in PS games. We need to get healthy and stay that way. Can't afford to lose too many guys.

When you
Fish : 8/30/2013 9:59 am : link
see Pugh pushing his man away from the QB then you see the otherside not doing that, you know Pugh is a good player.
WHO THE HELL IS
sameolgee-MEN : 8/30/2013 9:59 am : link
ALFORD? JAY ALFORD? LOL

10 DL MAKE THE ROSTER

TUCK DE
JPP DE
KIWI DE
MOORE DE
JENKINS DT/DE
JOSEPH DT
HANKINS DT
AUSTIN DT
RODGERS DT
PATTERSON DT
Pugh looks great, all things considered...
islander1 : 8/30/2013 10:02 am : link
not even factoring in the fact it means Diehl isn't starting.
Pugh is exactly as advertised
Greg from LI : 8/30/2013 10:10 am : link
He doesn't jump out at you, he doesn't pancake guys, but he just makes all the blocks.
LOL,
NJGiantFan84 : 8/30/2013 10:22 am : link
sorry, brain fart. I meant Linval Joseph there. I have no idea why i called him Jay Alford. I guess thats what you get the morning after watching College Football until late last night.
Prince
Spyder : 8/30/2013 10:31 am : link
looks really good, a #1 CB. Murphy starting to show some flashes. Pugh looks solid. Beatty is a rock. TT showing signs he is back, despite the stumble. Patterson and Rogers both make it, I loved the way Patterson looked. Scott looked very good. Wilson looks like he is going to star. Happy to see him catching swing passes. Love Boothe and his giant butt!

Not too impressed with Hankins. None of the backup QB's look good to me, they are all weak, Painter looks like such a hick. Meyers has got to get his head together, 2 false starts! Looked good on a few checkdown 1st down passes though.
Pugh actually had some pancakes and some power blocks last night
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/30/2013 10:47 am : link
One run block had his man 3 yards down field, and on a pass drop he took his man to the turf and sat on him.

Patterson and Prince all looked good. This looks like Prince's year.
Pugh's footwork
mrvax : 8/30/2013 11:05 am : link
is already very good. Man he can mirror a DE. I think he'll be decent this year with a few rookie mistakes. As he gets stronger I think this kid is going to be an outstanding Olinesman.

Cutting Patterson is not an option after he crushed & crashed the pocket play after play. Where has this guy been hiding when the Eagles had him?
Bosworth looked good.
SMitch2 : 8/30/2013 11:26 am : link
He looks fast, decisive and hits with some authority. He's shown up every game so far. I wonder if he isn't our 3rd best LB right now -- at least in terms of athleticism and instincts.

I wonder if our Defensive scheme has our guys playing slow. Too many times (especially the LBs) seem to be standing flat footed looking to diagnose the play before moving. It leaves them constantly catching RBs after they have a head of steam and already crossed the the LOS or getting blocked as the OG's are already up on the second level.

on a side note, my head will explode if we keep giving up soft edges like last year. How teams consistently get 4–5 yards on wide runs on us is infuriating.

I left prince off because to me, he's a given.
kmed : 8/30/2013 11:43 am : link
Prince is going to be a legit #1 CB this year, IMO.
I remember Mike Patterson being more well-known
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/30/2013 11:45 am : link
before Jim Johnson died.

Since then the Eagles don't know what they're doing on defense.
Patterson has surprised the hell out of me this preseason.
Klaatu : 8/30/2013 11:59 am : link
He's looked quick, strong, aggressive, and relentless. I take back all of the rotten things I said about him when the Giants signed him.
Capers, Browning, Herman, McCants, Goodin, Even Cordle
clatterbuck : 8/30/2013 12:04 pm : link
all made the case for David Diehl staying on the roster. Does anyone really think these guys are better OL depth than Diehl?
I thought Herman played very well last night

LG, #62.
