When I was at #Texans camp, was told they were impressed by FA RB Dennis Johnson. Just cut him, though. Fumbles did him in.
here's one that may shake loose...
Mike in St. Louis : 8/30/2013 1:04 pm : link
although I don't believe for a minute it will actually happen...this is from Rotoworld...

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel hints Packers fourth-round RB Johnathan Franklin's roster spot isn't assured.

Beat writer Tom Silverstein believes Franklin "had to show something" in Thursday's preseason finale to secure his spot.

Not that he would be able to step in for Brown but I'd want the Giants to take a look if Franklin is cut...

Paterson, really?
Curtis in VA : 8/30/2013 1:22 pm : link
I don't think Edwards is very good at all. Shades of Dave Brown.

I'd rather keep Painter if I had to pick one. At least until he starts to look horrible. =)

Eagles also released LB Everette Brown, who hasn't looked bad of late and played well last night.
Tom in LI...

what?
Curtis, yeah I think he's better
PatersonPlank : 8/30/2013 1:39 pm : link
I am completely not on board with Painter, and I have not been a big Carr fan either. I've at least seen Edwards have some good games, in a starting role, and carry his team a little.

when can the giants start signing guys that were cut? ie ballard?
Gordo : 8/30/2013 3:53 pm : link
i bet we wait till after week 1 to sign anybody
crazy story about Sudfield.. I am rooting for him..
Paulie Walnuts : 8/30/2013 4:19 pm : link
he's a local kid, played for Modesto Christian with his Brother who is the same size and another freak athlete.. ( Baseball)

MC had another Kid Isiah Burse who is at Fresno state and I expect him to get a pro shot as a CB or a KR/WR.. big, athletic, and FAST

My son played against them both in HS, I doubt he laid a hand on either

why do you guys assume Ballard can still play?
Duke : 8/30/2013 4:20 pm : link
he couldn't make a team that has no TEs to speak of.
at some point the Giants wanted to keep him
Paulie Walnuts : 8/30/2013 4:23 pm : link
even if we ir 'ed him a for a year.. worth investigating , no?
The cuts to look out for are going to come tomorrow
barens : 8/30/2013 4:29 pm : link
close to the cut down time. Usually, the cuts made now, are injured players, or players who's careers are just about thru, and they are let go a little earlier as more of a courtesy to them to give them an opportunity to tryout for another team.

The players let go later tomorrow will indicate who those clubs are really hoping to hold onto somehow.
Duke
Ace718 : 8/30/2013 5:39 pm : link
Pats have a lot of faith in Sudfeld and Gronkowski will be back soon. The fact that he couldn't make it in NE doesn't mean that he's done.
Steve Schlling was also cut
Anakim : 8/30/2013 6:52 pm : link
Another guy who would solidify the O-Line depth. Max Starks and Antoine Caldwell were also cut.
Max Starks was a name i wanted
SHO'NUFF : 8/30/2013 7:11 pm : link
Peterman from the Jets would be decent...
Ballard
PaulN : 8/30/2013 7:55 pm : link
Stinks, that is why he was cut, on a team that needs TE's, so why would we sign him, he never was a very good blocker at all either. I would rather keep Donnell anyday of the week.
Some guys just perform
Mike L. : 8/30/2013 8:09 pm : link
better in certain environments. Ballard played well in the Giants system, making several clutch catches. If the Giants think the knee is ok, I'd take him over Pascoe, assuming Hynoski is ready.
Agree with Mike L
geelabee : 8/30/2013 8:17 pm : link
Ballard is better and younger the Pascoe
Ballard and Starks
oipolloi : 8/30/2013 9:12 pm : link
wouldn't mind those two at all.
FB Michael Robinson
Toastt34 : 8/30/2013 9:17 pm : link
Says Seahawks are cutting him
Starks was dreadful in San Diego.
Klaatu : 8/30/2013 9:30 pm : link
He gave up three sacks against the Skins yesterday, and was benched in favor of Mike Harris, a second-year UDFA OT...and that was after losing a starting LT spot to King Dunlap.

Full Disclosure: I mentioned Starks a few times before the draft as a player I thought the Giants might sign. Just another reason to be glad that I'm not the Giants' GM.
Marcus Trufant was cut by the Jaguars earlier today.
Big Blue Blogger : 8/30/2013 9:42 pm : link
Didn't see it posted here.

At least Aaron Ross isn't alone any more.
The surprise with Robinson isn't that the Seahawks would cut him.
Big Blue Blogger : 8/30/2013 9:43 pm : link
The handwriting has been on the wall for Michael Robinson and his $2.5MM salary. The surprise is that the front-runner for the job might be Derrick Coleman (the deaf underdog 'tweener from UCLA, not the former Net). Robinson could return at a lower salary once he gets over an illness.
Starks
Big Rick in FL : 8/30/2013 9:47 pm : link
Was terrible with the Steelers. I want no part of him. He is no better then Diehl!
I don't think that we are assuming that Ballard can still play;
Reese's Pieces : 8/30/2013 10:08 pm : link
We are saying to bring him in and see if he can play.

I'm still trying to figure out how we came out ahead with Bennett by coaching him up into an all-around TE, showing the rest of the league that he could catch the ball in clutch situations, and then having no way of stopping him from leaving for another team.

Would Reese make another deal like that?
Ditto
AcidTest : 8/30/2013 10:22 pm : link
what others have said about Starks.
The deal worked for both us and Bennett
jcn56 : 8/31/2013 12:09 am : link
We got a solid year's worth of performance at a reasonable price. He got a chance to showcase his skills a little better and position himself for a payday.

Just because we didn't keep him, doesn't mean the deal didn't pan out.

How could you say Ballard is better
Kevin(formerly Tiki4Six) : 8/31/2013 9:34 am : link
Than Pascoe... Ballard is a slow Te who doesn't block very well for a guy his size ... Bear can play everywhere
Bear plays mediocre everywhere...
Dunedin81 : 8/31/2013 9:39 am : link
he survives because we have depth issues everywhere, but he's replaceable.
Guys, as we see name players pop up on team cut lists across league,
Optimus-NY : 8/31/2013 10:11 am : link
just remember that these guys are just that at this point in their careers---names. The transactions to watch out for are the guys with less than 4 years of experience for the most part.
lots of careers are ending today from these lists.
Optimus-NY : 8/31/2013 10:13 am : link
Let's also hope that a trade can be made at a position where we have numbers (DTs) in order to get a player at a position of need (i.e., RB) from a team that has depth at that position. Reese has averaged a trade a year since being here.
Dunedin81 makes a very good point
Optimus-NY : 8/31/2013 10:15 am : link
I think Pascoe's replacement is on the roster now in Donnell. I just don't think that Donnell replaces him until next year, assuming Donnell is with the team in some capacity this year either on the 530man roster or the Practice Squad.
Problem with a thread like this, is that info is disjointed.
Big Blue '56 : 8/31/2013 10:22 am : link
If it had a "up to date list" of who was cut, we could better absorb the info, at least I could..Some here did that with the UDFA lists by updating all the signed players in one column..That was tremendously helpful
Wouldn't

They released a pretty decent Punter in Mesko, but the guy I really like is 2013 UDFA George Winn, a RB out of Cincinnati. I'd bring him in instead of Torain. His contract won't count against the cap if they cut him after week 1, as opposed to Torain's, so he could give the team added Cap and Roster flexibility.

Belichick has no

I wonder if Douglas

Part of the reason that Belichick has no problem cutting high draft

Eagles are a joke when it comes to the draft
Optimus-NY : 8/31/2013 2:40 pm : link
Look at that scrub DE they traded up for ahead of the Giants to draft in 2010 (Brandon Graham). The Giants stayed pat at 15 and took their guy JPP.

The Eagles and especially the Pats always got kudos from the national media for trading up and down the draft and accumulating picks. They were good at accumulating picks alright, but they didn't do what the draft was essentially about: pick good players. Look at the amount of disappointing picks and busts those two organizations have made in recent years (particularly Philly).

Unhappily, DE Graham has been developing into a quality pass rusher. He may be a handful this year for the Giants.
ok

sign me up, Reese!
They say the teams to
geemanfan : 8/31/2013 3:30 pm : link
Look for for LB's are Seattle and 49rs
Graham had a decent season last year.
Ace718 : 8/31/2013 3:33 pm : link
He's developing into a good player.
We really need help along the O-Line
Anakim : 8/31/2013 3:37 pm : link
And there are some really quality backup offensive linemen on the market
Brad Smith
Dylan fan : 8/31/2013 3:45 pm : link
Either it's utterly bizarre that the Bills had 2 Brad Smiths, both played QB & both ended up Reserve/Injured or else the 1 Brad Smith must have been severely injured to get Reserve/Injured twice. :)
Steelers cut

Dwyer. I guess they like Jones.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 1m

Bills releases: Cut veteran LB Bryan Scott after trying to trade him. Also release QB Thad Lewis
Now I'm not sure Matthews got cut
geemanfan : 8/31/2013 4:42 pm : link
I'm blame that on Dan Leberfeld on Sirius who reported it.
Dwyer got cut
Mike in NY : 8/31/2013 4:51 pm : link
Because of his attitude and lack of commitment. That won't impress Coughlin. An interesting cut is Tennessee dropping Velasco. While nothing special he did grade out as middle of the pack among starting C when given a shot
Chilo Rachal, J'Marcus Webb, Antoine Caldwell
BillyBoy8384 : 8/31/2013 4:53 pm : link
We need a veteran over McCants, Cordle, etc. I think Caldwell and Rachal can get more done then our back up O- Lineman
Webb is bad.

I hope they bring keiland Wiliams

LB/DE Dontay Moch
Jay on the Island : 8/31/2013 5:00 pm : link
cut by the Bengals. I know a lot of people were enamored with him a couple of years ago.

Baltimore Ravens ‏@Ravens 1m

The #Ravens have cut WR Tandon Doss, Safety Omar Brown, RB Bobby Rainey, TE Billy Bajema & OL Antoine McClain.
Did anybody point out that Meachem
robbieballs2003 : 8/31/2013 5:28 pm : link
was cut. Man, that guy fell off of a cliff. Especially being in SD with their lack of depth at WR that speaks volumes about Meachem.
Belichick isn't good at drafting?
KWALL : 8/31/2013 5:30 pm : link
He never has a top pick. He's always at the bottom and he moves down to gather picks.

You can't cherry pick some misses and claim his drafting is poor. He plays the odds. And the odds say a good portion of 2nd-4th rounders won't make it so he gathers more of them.

Bottom line is he finds plenty of young talent and he uses it early. And it works. How does that add up to bad drafting?
I guess beating up the Giants scrubs
Mike in NY : 8/31/2013 5:33 pm : link
Could not help Drake Nevis keep his job
KWALL
Mike in NY : 8/31/2013 5:35 pm : link
The Patriots are gifted 5-6 wins per year with the current state of the AFC East and by constantly trading back in drafts he has left New England with questionable depth if and when their starters get hurt or retire. In particular he has sucked drafting DB's high
Brady Quinn cut by Seattle.

Didn't see it posted.
The 2011 draft is getting the axe all over the league....
Milton : 8/31/2013 5:38 pm : link
Jay-- I was one of those who were enamored of Moch. He had measurables that were off the chart.
They have been gifted
KWALL : 8/31/2013 5:42 pm : link
these wins for the past 10+ years?

McCourty is an excellent player. He picked a couple of CBs in rounds 2-4 that did not work. Dowling was hurt so he gets a pass on this one.

Every year there are young guys making plays on that team.
I thought Vince young solidified the backup spot
TommytheElephant : 8/31/2013 5:44 pm : link

RB Jamison

from Rutgers was cut by WAS. Strong inside runner. We need one until Brown gets back!
Did the Eagles cut S Nate Allen?

Kid should have never come out. Too small and slow.
I'd
AcidTest : 8/31/2013 7:01 pm : link
take Douglas back and cut JJ. Douglas can at least return punts. I remember Reese saying they were high on him.
OT Reid Fragle got cut
Pete from Woodstock : 8/31/2013 7:19 pm : link
I thought alot of guys were high on him during the draft
Matt
KWALL : 8/31/2013 7:43 pm : link
Short isn't small. He plays big!

Staying in school would not have helped. He needed the money. He left. For a guy like Jamison its all about going to the right team.

He has good quicks and is strong. He can make it in the NFL right now. I think he'll get another shot. A good comp for Jamison is Chris Polk in PHI. Plenty of people said he was too small and slow. But he know how to run. So does Jamison.
Dwyer from Georgia Tech...
M.S. : 8/31/2013 7:48 pm : link

Strong runner. Opposite of Scott

A year on somebody's practice squad.

Seriously who do you think would help the Giants more this year. Dwyer from Pitt or Jamison?

Kid was talked into coming out early with the hopes of helping his family out financially. Really sad because he's solid but not sure he's any better than Cox at this point.
Some interesting names out there
ghost718 : 8/31/2013 7:54 pm : link
Tauren Poole,RB - Liked him coming out of Tennessee
Chris Harper,WR - Think he got caught up in a log jam out in Seattle. Also had some drops
Ras I Dowling - Belichick gave up on him pretty quick.I liked him more than Prince the year he came out.Heard he had a good mini camp, than he got hurt again.
Da'Rick Rodgers - Saw him against the Colts not chase down someone on a fumble, ever since than he was in the dog house.
Dwyer is interesting to me
PatersonPlank : 8/31/2013 7:58 pm : link
He had some good games for Pittsburgh, and he is a strong, physical back. He can get tough yards and would be a good complement to Wilson. Maybe he could help our RZ performance.
Roby is an excellent
Sir-Yes-Sir : 8/31/2013 7:59 pm : link
returner
Ras-I Dowling's problem is that he is never healthy.
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/31/2013 8:11 pm : link
He has played 7 and 2 games in two seasons.
Ojomo AND Tracy?
old man : 8/31/2013 8:41 pm : link
Hardy AND Talley(leaving JJ)?, Bosworth(like we have an abundance of LBs)? James AND Fredericks AND Sash?
Just surprised by some of the survivors.
Especially where we NEED depth.
WOW!
a real surprise
YANKEE28 : 8/31/2013 8:51 pm : link
cut is Center Fernando Velasco from the Titans. He started every game for the Titans last year and was an RFA kept with a 2nd round tender.

Here is an article from March, when the Titans agreed to pay him.

He is only 28 and played his college ball at Georgia

Type of veteran player that will likely be signed following Week 1. Baas has had it easy as Giant-there has never been competition at Center since he was signed.
Link - ( New Window )
Old Man - Trattou had a better preseason than Ojomo and Tracy.
fredgbrown : 8/31/2013 10:53 pm : link
The Giants have Kiwi who can play LB so they went with 5. Talley it looks like they will try and bring back for the practice squad if he is not claimed.
I'm sure it was mentioned...

but as bad as cutting our second rounder from 2011 was, at least we didn't cut our first. Fly Eagles Fly
