Was anyone else upset by the last play of the game

Blue21 : 8/30/2013 1:28 pm
the Patriots had on offense when they went for the TD? It's kind of like an unwritten rule you take a knee there isn't it. I've always admired BB because he came from the Giants coaching tree but that ticked me off especially where he and TC are supposedly good friends. Of course BB has been known to run up scores. Maybe that's why BB and dipshit from Tampa Bay get along so good.Notice TC did the right thing with 4 seconds. He conceded the game to not risk anyone getting hurt in a desperate attempt to force overtime.

the last line of my game write up from last night on the front page.

Typical bush league stuff from the Patriots.
I did read that Eric..I felt good after that
Blue21 : 8/30/2013 1:31 pm : link
because I saw so very little reaction from others. I thought it was just me when I was talking to the TV.
They sure got us back for beating them in two Super Bowls.

How do you reconcile this
Blue Baller : 8/30/2013 1:33 pm : link
with TC forcing OT last weekend?

PEEJ : 8/30/2013 1:33 pm : link
loves to tweak the Giants. I think it goes back to being passed over for HC
I agree that Belichick and the Pats are doing bush league stuff
BigBlueBuff : 8/30/2013 1:34 pm : link
like this all of the time but I'm not sure that I agree in this particular case, being the last game of the preseason. You have players who might be playing their last game of football in their entire lives and who might be fighting for a roster spot. If you're a coach and there is something you want to see, isn't having one or two more plays on tape better than just taking a knee?

Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/30/2013 1:34 pm : link
don't give me this "Patriots were practicing plays" crap. Why didn't they practice plays at the end of the first half when they knelt on the ball with one minute left.
Yep... I was pretty pissed when it happened...
M.S. : 8/30/2013 1:35 pm : link

...and at 9:04am this morning when I wrote this:

(12) Refs missed a huge call down the stretch. With about 2 mins. to play, Painter threw a deep sideline pass to either Hardy or Talley. If not under-thrown, it's a 6 and maybe a win for the Giants. In any event, the Pats defender never turned around, and as the Giants receiver slowed down to catch the ball he was whacked by the CB's arm BEFORE the ball got there. No call... and no big deal in pre-season. But if that was a regular season game, we would all be howling for weeks;
I had no problem with it
Mike L. : 8/30/2013 1:36 pm : link
being that its preseason. Your trying to get reps, the score means zero to most intelligent people. TC taking knees against Pittsburgh was dumb - he could have had Nassib throw a few more passes - that's what the preseason is for.
The Pats had the lead and the ball
PEEJ : 8/30/2013 1:37 pm : link
with seconds to go. The ONLY way they could have lost the game, was by running another play.
Blue21
FJ : 8/30/2013 1:38 pm : link
The last play of the game was Nassib taking a knee to run out the clock. Why would that upset you?
Mike L
Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/30/2013 1:38 pm : link
Pats had a minute left in the first half and timeouts. They knelt.

Teams regularly kneel on the ball at the end of preseason games, especially the 4th game. Coughlin's Giants do it all of the time.

arcarsenal : 8/30/2013 1:38 pm : link
Didn't care at all. Meaningless game, I guess they wanted to practice running an endzone play. They weren't near the endzone at the end of the half so it was totally different.
I'm with Mike L.
T-Bone : 8/30/2013 1:39 pm : link
Didn't bother me at all. If it's supposedly truly a meaningless game (at least with regards to the score), then why get upset because they scored one more time in the last minute of the game?
who cares
Nitro : 8/30/2013 1:40 pm : link
it's pre-season you can't run up a score that doesn't matter.
I usually have a problem with that stuff
AJ23 : 8/30/2013 1:42 pm : link
But I'll write it off as BB giving Tebow one last throw in the NFL.
I was not upset at all
ligmen : 8/30/2013 1:43 pm : link
I legit think the Patriots are trying to asses Tebow/backup qb/te etc. and the last play was a perfect opportunity to put him in a good scenario.

It's preseason, they probably feel their guys can use all the work possible, I don't take offense, more concern that are guys couldn't stop it.
and exactly, I point to Coughlin doing the same
ligmen : 8/30/2013 1:44 pm : link
let's give my kicker a big game situation... practice forcing an overtime... last week
FJ reread the post..last play by the Patriots offense

Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/30/2013 1:46 pm : link
So Bill wanted to have his third-team back-ups practice a red zone play but he didn't want his second-team backups to practice a 2-minute drill?
BlueBaller..Seriously? Pats were ahead with 10 seconds
Blue21 : 8/30/2013 1:47 pm : link
and had the ball you take a knee and protect the ball and yopur players especially last preseason game. As far as last week, you always play to win even in preseason. What were the Giants suppose to do last week. Head to the lockerroom with a couple minutes left?
Yea...
Jan in DC : 8/30/2013 1:47 pm : link
for me, it's a lot of these guys last games in the NFL. Let it rip. Though it is strange when you juxtapose it with them deciding to kneel on it at the end of the half. But that doesn't change the way I feel about running more plays personally. If the Giants had gotten a sack, then that'd be a positive for one of them. Works both ways.
AJ23 nailed it
Mike from Ohio : 8/30/2013 1:48 pm : link
BB knows Tebow's career as an NFL QB is over and gave him the chance to go out on a high note. It was not revenge for the SB or trying to practice plays, or just trying to be a dick.
Mike
Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/30/2013 1:50 pm : link
probably...

But haven't we all seen Tom Brady throwing the ball out of the shot gun with the Patriots up by three scores the 4th quarter of a football game?
if this bothers you, you take things with the Giants too personally
Nitro : 8/30/2013 1:50 pm : link
.
No
Jerry K : 8/30/2013 1:52 pm : link
On the scale of things to get upset about it's barely a blip. It gave our DB a chance to make a play. He came up short.
Or maybe BB wants to keep Tebow as a wild card player, especially
CT Charlie : 8/30/2013 1:53 pm : link
in the red zone, and it shows that Tebow isn't just a one-trick pony. Probably, though, BB thought it would be "fun" if it worked.
Eric
Mike from Ohio : 8/30/2013 1:53 pm : link
BB is not above running the score up, but the way he was smiling after that play did not seem like the usual, bitter "f-you" face he usually has when he does that stuff. My interpretation was he felt like he did something nice for a decent guy who was playing his last game and knew it.
All those who see this as an example of BB being butt-hurt over
vibe4giants : 8/30/2013 1:53 pm : link
whatever, sound more than a little butt-hurt themselves. Of the two circumstances, I'll wager a great chance that Belichick had a stronger rationale for that play than the one behind this thread.
.
arcarsenal : 8/30/2013 1:54 pm : link
Eric.. maybe he wanted to see Sims run a fade or something. Who knows. Why does it matter? Coughlin played for OT against the Jets which a lot of teams may not have done in order to extend a meaningless game.

Getting worked up about a team throwing the football at the end of a preseason game and scoring just isn't something I'm interested in.

Maybe Terrence Frederick should have just timed his jump better and knocked the ball down.
If it was a game that counted it would be something to get upset
wgenesis123 : 8/30/2013 2:00 pm : link
about. Since its preseason and coaches routinely depart from the norm on decisions its not a big deal. There was talk in the media that this could be Tebow's last game in the NFL if he gets cut. Do you think he wanted to take a knee?
No. Not Upset at all.
nicky43 : 8/30/2013 2:00 pm : link
Pre-season practice time is so limited I don't blame the Patriots for running another practice play. Plus it gave us another practice play on defense. BB and TC are good friends and when they met after the game there was no signs of animosity. If the Patriots did that in a regular game it would be a different story.

Besides, maybe BB felt he'd give Tebow one more last play in the NFL.
Really you guys are upset over that?
Larry in Pencilvania : 8/30/2013 2:03 pm : link
It's not like it's week 4 of the regular season.

yawn...next
Another reason Belichick will always be referred to as

Little Bill.
Eric...
ligmen : 8/30/2013 2:04 pm : link
the 2 minute drill at half scenario to me doesn't apply. The last play of the game most likely included many players for the Pats, Tebow included who are really on the bubble. Let it rip and get as much production out of them as you can, while you can to help make your decision.

The end of 2nd half guys most of those guys are probably not on as much of a hot seat.

Again... see Tom Coughlin doing something similar... let me put my kicker in a big game situation... kick us into overtime of the 3rd preseason game.
As far as the kneeling at the end of the first half
nicky43 : 8/30/2013 2:05 pm : link
That was just good game management as the game was still on then. The game was clearly over when they added the play at the end. Just doing it for practice or giving the guys their last shot on the field.

The games don't matter and studying your players is more important than a win but every coach would still like to walk away with a win if they can.
Now they're even
mrvax : 8/30/2013 2:12 pm : link
Little Bill has evened the score now against the hated Tom Coughlin, whose team defeated his Patriots in 2 Superbowls.
Doesn't bother me.
Motley Blue : 8/30/2013 2:15 pm : link
It was a chance for them to practice a play in the redzone.

Lord knows the Giants could have used as many as those opportunities as possible this preseason.
No upset in the least
JonC : 8/30/2013 2:17 pm : link
But, it is an action that lacks class, while I wish we could expect better from BB.
Jon, why does it lack class?
vibe4giants : 8/30/2013 2:24 pm : link
Several posters have already expressed that it may have, among other things, a classy way to let Tebow go out. Or maybe it was exactly what it seemed, one more practice play. The idea that it lacks 'class' comes across as biased on a couple of levels. You're usually a very rational guy.
Where's Eric's write-up from last night that he mentioned?
Optimus-NY : 8/30/2013 2:26 pm : link
I tried looking, but I can't find it.
It's the article right at the top of the list

Yes.

And we'll beat the PATS in the SB again just to let them know we don't get mad, we get even.
As long as it didn't lead to OT
Headhunter : 8/30/2013 2:32 pm : link
I couldn't care less
It certainly altered the point spread
BigBlueinChicago : 8/30/2013 2:40 pm : link
Pats were -1 going into the game.

It would've been a push had they simple taken a knee. If you are a degenerate and took them last night, that last play won you a few bucks.
thanks vibe

saw it. the new configuration still confuses me.
I agree with nicky43
WideRight : 8/30/2013 2:43 pm : link

Vibe..I'm butt hurt? Hahaha! Naw..didn't lose a second sleep
Blue21 : 8/30/2013 3:04 pm : link
either but it rubbed me wrong . Especially since BB has been accused not by me but by the Boston press of his running up the scores etc. Just didn't expect to see it. He's taken flak before for classless stuff like drop kicking an extra point etc when he had a sizeable lead..
You were still so 'upset' (your word) that 12 hours later
vibe4giants : 8/30/2013 3:08 pm : link
you thought it deserved it's own thread.

That happened.
