did you really need a trade rumor to be clued in that those two are not very good? I'm not quite sure that this story tells us anymore than we already knew
I agree, that IF they are talking JR will set the price at a 5th rounder or let the deal die....hey, maybe he can give NO back the 1st rounder they got for Shockey back to NO?
I hope we don't do this trade. Do we really need to use our resources on a RB? It's not like we don't have glaring weaknesses at LB and OL. Even if you like our OL this year, Boothe is a FA, DD is probably gone. Snee is probably gone.
the Saints are a wide-open attack and that's not his game, plus they had a pretty poisonous atmosphere with their coach on the shelf all season. He could be a nice buy-low candidate.
the Giants doing anything higher than a 4th rounder, if any of this is true at all. Unless the stories about Brown are BS and his leg is worse than is being said, I don't see the need to go and make any deals at all. Hold down the fort with Torain and wait for Brown in October.
As in Linval? Lol please tell me you are joking!! Ingram is horrendous. I hope we don't go out and get some bum just to take away a few touches from Wilson. David Wilson can be a full time back and will be damn good. Pro Bowl caliber player this year IMO.
Two. Two mediocre years. There may be nothing there, or there may be a decent second option in a better locker room and with a more conventional offense.
Not really a fan of trading for a RB. It's a passing league. But we need to platoon RBs for them to be effective. Wilson can't do it by himself, and Scott and Torain are JAGs. Even when Brown comes back, he won't have played for two months, and might not be effective for several weeks thereafter.
We also have to think about next year. Brown, Scott, and Torain could all be gone.
The Giants also liked Ingram as others have noted.
What are we going to get in the fourth round next year anyway?
Why would they need him? I mean, it's nice to acquire talent...but Brown's only out for 4-6 weeks and Torain approximates Ingram pretty well. Unless it was a 6th or a 7th, keep the picks.
Or at least he hasn't been good yet in the NFL. After using a 1st round pick the Saints surely wanted him to be the main guy in the backfield and he hasn't been able to win the job. His productivity is generally worse than the other guys in the Saints backfield. All signs point to Ingram being "just a guy."
Now the Giants do actually need a "just a guy", but you wouldn't want to give up much to get one.
Ingram has averaged 3.9 YPC in both his nfl seasons, has a career ling of 31 yards, and with 17 receptions doesn't offer much as a receiver. And he's run behind a very good OL too. A high pick AND conditional mid rounder? They're out of their damn minds.
No Thanks...from an article from before this years draft
On the football analytics panel, which included former Kansas City general manager Scott Pioli, they talked about the size, weight and speed ratio for former Alabama running back Mark Ingram and how the numbers indicated that the former Heisman Trophy winner would be too slow to be successful in the NFL.
He had an analytics red flag.
Ingram has yet to distinguish himself in the league after two seasons with New Orleans. Hes averaged 3.9 yards per carry on 278 attempts and scored 10 touchdowns. Sports analytics - ( New Window )
in the game its over the years its been pretty obvious Saints were dialing up a running play which defenses sat on...much like when Ron Dayne would come into games for us, not making excuses for his 3.9 but the Saints offense isnt the type that would make most downhill running RBs successful
it looks like the whole thing is false, but although rare in the NFL, it seems that trades are most likely to happen right before teams finalize their rosters.
[quote]Ingram gained 49 yards on nine carries and scored an eight-yard touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale against Miami.
Spin: In the final preseason game in which most teams elect to rest their starters, it was interesting to see Ingram receive a heavy workload, including a few carries in the second half. However, with Travaris Cadet not making the trip to Miami and the Saints holding Darren Sproles out, someone had to see snaps at running back. Still, it was nice to see Ingram play well even if it was against the Dolphins' second-stringers. Ingram is expected to see most of the carries in the Saints' offense and handle much of the short yardage and goal line work. [quote]

he wasn't quite Trent Richardson, but he was a better overall RB than Lacy by a decent amount. I also think the Saints were just a bad fit for him. But bad fit or not, a 1st round talent should still show more than he did in New Orleans.
I'd be ok with it I guess depending on the price. But I'm on that David Wilson bandwagon, that's a thoroughbred that we need to ride this year. I worry that adding Ingram would take carries away from Wilson. But if Wilson's pass pro is considered THAT bad by the coaches then maybe this is the right call. But I think Wilson can be a capable blocker. It's about recognition with him he isn't some Jahvid Best tiny guy he has the power to block once he understands how.
You should probably be realizing it's a junk source
What do you think we'd get for Joseph? 4th at best and probably a 5th. You clowns are delusional if you think it would be better than that.
I hate Ingram and think he's a bust. Personally I wouldn't touch him with a ten ft poll, but that trade makes sense. It gets rid of our logjam at DT and helps with an immediate need.
I don't know who Darren Connolly is or what sources he might or might not have, and I certainly don't want to disrespect anyone.
However, his tweet about the Saints being mad at him and resulting in nasty phone calls doesn't make a lick of sense.
First, why would a team "leak" a potential trade and then get "mad" at someone for putting it out there, especially if there is supposedly a bidding war going on?
You would think the Saints would send a fruit basket to the guy for leaking it out there that there are multiple teams interested in the player as that could potentially drive up the asking price.
And please don't tell me that someone told him in confidence and said, "Oh please don't tell anyone." I don't buy that for a second because, as I said, if the Saints were really looking to make a trade, I would think it would behoove them to let it be known that Ingram is on the block so that they could get the best possible offer.
(This is the same tactic agents use when trying to get the best contract for their FA clients -- they leak interest of teams to the media in an effort to drive up the price with the real target.)
Second, I highly doubt a team would make a "nasty" call to chastise a member of the media. These are professionals, after all. Right now I would think teams are more worried about setting their rosters than dealing with alleged leaks.
One last thing. I believe this guy said the trade had a 50-50 chance of happening. Gee, if I said there was a 50-50 chance of it raining tomorrow, and it does rain, I look like a genius; if it doesn't, then I can fall back on the 50-50 claim I made.
Again, just my two cents. I personally think the Giants will either retain Ryan Torain, who already knows the system, or they might scan the waiver wire.
I'd personally like to see them get a RB/backup FB type like what they had with Reuben Droughns in 2007, as I think that would kill two birds with one stone, especially if Hyno isn't ready for week 1.
I honestly don't know why more no name reporters like this hack don't rumors out of their ass more often. At the absolute least it gets him more twitter followers with no repercussions when it undoubtedly never happens
Is coming back in October so we don't need another back?? He'll come come to do what ? Get hurt again? I think TC is getting a bit tired of some players not being able to stay healthy.
who question the super love for Joseph. He was the guy in the middle last year when we got run all over. Hasn't shown the ability on the field to be the disruptive force he was suppose to be. No great get to the QB skills either. He is going to want way more money than we are willing (or should) pay. If the right deal came along I would listen hard.
I can't remember offhand if Robinson, who i think was cut by the Hawks, carried the ball much. If yes, then yeah, that would be a guy I'd investigate considering 1) not sure if Hyno is ready for week 1, and 2) the TE blocking this preseason is still a work in progress.
Ingram was a player they loved in the draft, wouldn't surprise me if they actually had an interest in him, on their terms (ignoring the prior and apparently false rumors).
but off of all that I read from analysts(and BBIers I respect), there was little in his game that would have caused me to hope Reese drafted him. If Reese's interest in him was truly legitimate, I cannot see why he would have coveted him. That said, he would know far more than I could ever hope to know evaluation-wise
NYG coveted Ingram, and they picked the player who was higher on their draft board in Prince. Prince slipping to us was a shock. This info is all confirmed.
He lacked speed and elusiveness, but projected to be a rugged, instinctive runner who would move piles and the chains. To date, he's been oft-injured and not as projected, but is still young and plenty of clock left in his NFL career.
Pass heavy offense that uses 3-4 different RB's. He'd be a factor on a more balanced offense that actually gave him enough touches. He'd be a great pickup for us. Don't see it happening, though.
and giving an idea of what his scouting profile looked like, briefly.
Fans are quick to dismiss young players, and Ingram came into the NFL at 20-21 years of age. On the flip, our own Linval has played some terrific DT at times, and some are ready to trade him for a RB. It boggles the mind.
I'd be happy to see him in blue, if a trade were made in terms favorable to NYG. I'm not trading a DT or a #3 pick for him, but a #4 or #5 pick I'd be ok with trading.
want to trade from a position of strength to acquire a need..That is the most idiotic thing a GM can do..Every year, geniuses want to trade a DT or DE for a new shiny toy..
Have never been a big fan of a running back who can't average
at lease 4.5 yards per carry. For that reason I thought that Rodney Hampton was not worth all the fuss made over him. Sure, he would be in the top ten rushers, but have the lowest yards per carry.
If we do trade for a player, giving away a forth or fifth round draft choice is a good deal. Giants traded Shockey for 2nd and 5th round choices, which turned into Clint Sintim and Rhett Bomar. In other words, we traded Shockey for nothing.
listen guys I know linval has been there for us these past few years and hes a beast d tackle but I think we have enough depth at d tackle to let him go to add ingram cause lets be serious we cant relie the hole load on Wilson this year if we do that's it he wont be shit in playoffs hes no Adrian Peterson lol. I say we have to go to free agencie or make this trade for ingram to split the carrys cause I don't want Wilson to be all beat up for the playoffs.. soo if this does happen good luck to linval had a good few years with him. lets go mark ingram !!!!!!! GIANTS NATION !!! BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD
Luckily Reese is not stupid enough to trade Joseph for a backup
Hearing that #Steelers are now in bidding war with #NYGiants for #Saints RB Mark Ingram #NFL
It would be pretty cool to have 2 dads who won Super Bowl XXV (Ingram and DeOssie), have their sons play on the Giants some 23 years later.
(insert joke regarding Saints 1st round pick from Shockey here)
I agree, that IF they are talking JR will set the price at a 5th rounder or let the deal die....hey, maybe he can give NO back the 1st rounder they got for Shockey back to NO?
Joseph for Ingram would be a joke. That's a terrible suggestion.
Ingram would fit right in with Wilson.

A 4th would be ideal we need to draft somebody next year anyway we have NOTHING behind Wilson.
We traded a 5th for Keith Rivers...

Trading Marvin Austin could be possible
I can understand, throwing his name out there, because he will be asking way more than he is worth next year...but I'm not sold on Ingram....
For the life of me, what has Joseph done? He is not a monster in the middle of the line....he's a good DT, no more.....
He probably won't be here next year....
he's a pro bowl type player

If we're making comparisons. Mark Ingram is an even larger bust.
Fans are quick to dismiss young players, and Ingram came into the NFL at 20-21 years of age. On the flip, our own Linval has played some terrific DT at times, and some are ready to trade him for a RB. It boggles the mind.

it starts with one
everyone ridicules him
then slowly some come around and before you know it its majority lol
We have a good nucleus at DT.
I think Austin is a bust. Him and a 5th rd pick would be pretty fair deal for Ingram IMO.
