He has the longest recovery period of any of the walking wounded and it makes him available for the second half of the season. Who takes the spot it the bigger question for me.
Please note that jlukes doesn't like this move at all
Just use it. You have somebody you can use it on. Might as take advantage. Instead of waiting for somebody who is a better fit and end up not using all year long
and the duration of his injury fits use of the designation. This was the expected move, Andre will be back for the second half of the season. Not a bad time for fresh legs in the backfield.
Diehl is expected back as many as four weeks earlier than AB
the Giants are even more limited in terms of roster spots. Diehl is out 4 weeks (prob), they have 3 QB's, and with Brown it was 3 roster spots out of 53 that were 100% wasted.
It was either Diehl or Brown who they had to cut or use temporary IR for to get some reinforcements.
it's 8 weeks out min. if the Giants lose someone THAT important in the next few weeks, and we're talking Eli, JPP, Beatty, maybe Rolle, they're probably not in contention 8 weeks later anyway to worry about it.
they need the roster spot now, so they can get to a later in the season and still have it be meaningful.
Because we know somebody's going to get a broken bone or a sprained knee in the first month of the season, and they'll have to just bite the bullet then.
I guess they're thinking the pressure's on, the organization is tired of mediocre records and not making the playoffs, and they need to act with some urgency. Win now. Meaning not just this season, but NOW.
need the roster spot, especially at RB. He might be ready to help us as soon as week ten. Ideally, you'd like to wait until week four or five, but most things in life are not ideal.

... but I'v heard they've spoken to the agents of Ryan Grant, Kevin Smith, among others. A vet likely wouldn't be signed until Week 2. #NYG

I was told not to rule out RB Tim Hightower at some point, either. Giants worked him out this spring. They don't bring in guys for no reason
spot open, but if they have less than 53-men on the roster, certain people become "ineligible" for the PS.
This applies only if the Giants have someone on the PS for a 3rd season. I don't know if they do. Ojomo? Broha? Ryan Perilloux definitely wouldn't be eligible.
I like Andre Brown, but he just doesn't seem durable enough to justify a roster spot. Even though we're thin at RB, IMO it was better to cut him now and find a decent #2 via trade or waiver wire and save the temp IR designation.
I'm wondering about the health of Tyler Sash? If he were cleared to play would they bring him back? Being cold blooded about it, I don't think he has enough years of service to get him a whole year's salary if he is on the roster Week 1.
He had an unfortunate injury an an inopportune time. He will be able to play by Week 6 so that gives him 2 extra weeks to rehab. The Giants don't cut guys loose because of an injury that can heal. They are classier than that.
Looks like Andre Brown has been placed on IR/designated to return. ... RT @drebrown35 See y'all week 8

That temp IR spot could prove to be valuable later in the season.

until after week 1, so that they can sign a veteran without guaranteeing all of his salary.
It has to be in the CBA.
Yes, they can be inactive, but not roster spot.

I predict only one this week, Andre Brown going to temp IR and a safety who was cut by another team today replacing him.
Scott doesn't crack this roster if Andre is healthy. That tells you what the team thinks about him.
Cox is still absorbing the playbook and adapting to the pro game.
Hyno just came off PUP himself.
They need an ace in the hole later on if this group struggles. I think it's the right move.
