Why is Brown on the injury report?
speedywheels : 9/4/2013 11:43 am : link
He's on temp IR, he obviously will be missing the first 8 weeks.
I think the Giants are waiting until
PEEJ : 9/4/2013 11:44 am : link
after week #1 before officially putting Brown on temp IR.
I thought he was placed on it yesterday
speedywheels : 9/4/2013 11:51 am : link
Hence, the open roster spot they have (which is why they had guys in for a workout)?

The @Giants have placed RB Andre Brown IR/Designated to return and signed DE Adawale Ojomo to the roster!
WOO HOO!

OJOMO!!!
Congrats to him!
AnishPatel : 9/4/2013 11:58 am : link
Big move for him and his career. Hopefully when he gets playing time he can have a breakout game and show the coaches something.
Another DE?

I wonder how Tuck and JPP

Giants first real practice for Dallas. Center David Baas not on the field. JPP with new Mohawk do. Cruz looks good.
Jernigan stinks.
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/4/2013 12:44 pm : link
Cut him and bring in Dwyer.
Can't go with only 4 WRs
PEEJ : 9/4/2013 12:46 pm : link
JJ has been a huge disappointment, though
JPP has been practicing all week
djm : 9/4/2013 12:48 pm : link
and today is full steam ahead? In other words, he's practicing fully? And it's Wednesday....this bodes well for sunday night. Half the normal amount of snaps maybe?
If JPP and Moore are practicing,
section125 : 9/4/2013 12:58 pm : link
why did they sign Ojomo?
Marcus Harris is probably better than Jernigan right now.
Curtis in VA : 9/4/2013 1:03 pm : link
That guy can't catch a cold.
I'm

Ebenezer Samuel ‏@ebenezersamuel
Let's try this again: FWIW, Michael Cox - not David Wilson - is listed as the first-team kick returner on Giants depth chart.
Is Douglass........
BillKo : 9/4/2013 1:57 pm : link
with anyone, regular roster or PS?
Cox did a decent job returning kicks in preseason
Sneakers O'toole : 9/4/2013 1:58 pm : link
but I wish they would play Wilson there. The guy can change a game with those kick returns.

Reale01 : 9/4/2013 2:00 pm : link
Ojo did a good job on specials. He is able to fill roles usually given to LBs. particularly good in coverage
No, Cox did a great job in preseason,
Randy in CT : 9/4/2013 2:04 pm : link
however Wilson might be the best returner in the league. I wonder if they'll split duties at KR?
You can't use your #1 RB on kickoff returns
GiantJake : 9/4/2013 2:13 pm : link
With Brown out, the Giants are going to need Wilson to carry the load at RB. Exposing him to a big hit on kickoffs would be unbelievably stupid. Cox showed he can handle the job. Let him do it until he proves he can't.
Randy with AB out,
section125 : 9/4/2013 2:19 pm : link
I doubt Wilson returns kicks. Guy is dynamic, but they cannot chance him getting injured beyond being RB.

Reale01 - you might be right, but it is weird to re-sign a guy just for specials and I never really saw him play specials. Going with only 5 LBs, TC and PF must have a plan for using lots on DL in rotation to keep them fresh to keep pressure on the QB. Maybe the 3-4 is going to be used except they use DE's as the Will and SAM, but mainly as rushers?

Something Like:
JPP - Tuck - Joseph - Jenkins - Kiwi with Trattou and Ojomo filling in as needed?
Damn
section125 : 9/4/2013 2:20 pm : link
so many DEs I left off Da'Monster.
meh
Sneakers O'toole : 9/4/2013 2:23 pm : link
you can get hurt on any play. Use your weapons. He can change a game, and one game can be the difference between a playoff berth and sitting at home in the winter. Use your playmakers.
Great to hear about David Diehl...
M.S. : 9/4/2013 2:25 pm : link
...seems to be healing up pretty quickly. Maybe we can get him in the game this weekend to neutralize DeMarcus Ware.
yes you can get hurt on any play
Jon from PA : 9/4/2013 2:27 pm : link
but why increase the odds? Taking one too many risks with a potential game breaker isn't worth the reward imo.
I get what you guys are saying
Sneakers O'toole : 9/4/2013 2:29 pm : link
I just don't agree. It looks like Coughlin is probably going to side with you guys and favor protecting Wilson. Me, I think you take the production.
sneaks - if AB were
section125 : 9/4/2013 2:34 pm : link
there, I'd agree. But Wilson is the only viable RB at the moment.
Anyway, Cox did a credible enough job and he looks like he might break one too. It is nice to have the option.
maybe they'll put him back there
Sneakers O'toole : 9/4/2013 2:36 pm : link
when Coughlin thinks they need a spark. A man can dream. I just hate leaving that weapon on the sideline.
But I do agree about Cox
Sneakers O'toole : 9/4/2013 2:37 pm : link
he did a good job in preseason. It's not that I think Cox is a bad option, I think he'll do a good job. But Wilson is special.

You can get hurt on any play
mik999999 : 9/4/2013 2:58 pm : link
but there is only one play where all 11 opponents get a 50 yard running head start before hitting you. We need him in the backfield. If we are down late in the game and looking for a homerun obviously its worth the risk, but as an every return guy i seriously hope not. If we lose Wilson Da'rell Scott is the starting RB. And while I think he may surprise some people here, i don't want him to be the number one any time soon
with Brown injured
PEEJ : 9/4/2013 3:04 pm : link
Wilson has enough on his plate.
I think it's less the probability that he'll get hurt
jcn56 : 9/4/2013 3:06 pm : link
and more that it's just too full a workload for one guy. He's going to get a lot of carries given what's behind him at the moment, handling all those KOs probably isn't the best idea.
injury rates
Sneakers O'toole : 9/4/2013 3:10 pm : link
this chart shows injury rates on various types of plays up until 2010, so it's before the rule change moving the kickoff up.

The rate of injury on kicks as opposed to typical plays from scrimmage, about half a percent higher.

I get the reluctance to expose the player to risk. It's not that I'm dismissing it. It's a valid concern. But, the guy can change games. You let him IMO

Guys like CJ Spiller, Doug Martin, Ray Rice, Jamaal Charles
GiantJake : 9/4/2013 3:11 pm : link
and Matt Forte would probably be good kickoff returners too. Why don't they return kicks? Why don't the all starting offensive linemen play on kickoff returns? They would probably be the best blockers. There is a reason that teams use 2nd stringers and rookies to make up their special teams units.
SO, thanks for posting that.
Randy in CT : 9/4/2013 3:15 pm : link
The folks here who want our team to play scared befuddle me. It is a violent sport and sometimes players get injured in a non-contact play. I'll defer to the coaches but hope they play DW as they deem necessary and appropriate.
I'm guessing
PEEJ : 9/4/2013 3:21 pm : link
that, if the Giants are behind with 2 minutes left and are receiving the KO, Wilson will be the guy
Hopefully there are just 2 or 3 kickoffs anyway
The Turk : 9/4/2013 3:43 pm : link
and Bailey is very good about kicking through the end zone so we are really talking about just a few plays. Save Wilson for when we might need a big one and otherwise give the job to Cox
just piling on
jLefty : 9/4/2013 3:55 pm : link
but Jernigan, when he goes full out down the sidelnes, never seems to outrun the defender. And when the ball is thrown so both have a chance, JJ doesn't come down with it. His quickness is good, but he doesn't seem to make catches in traffic.Hope he proves me wrong.
They passed up a pretty good LB in Mason Foster
Curtis in VA : 9/4/2013 4:05 pm : link

gmen4ever : 9/4/2013 4:10 pm : link
Good data. All of the injuries are flattening out or trending down, except kick offs which are increasing. I would REALLY like to see DW on kickoffs, punts, water boy...everything. But I think Cox will give us some production and we will be fine.
I think we end up with Ross on punts
bigbluescot : 9/4/2013 4:39 pm : link
for the safe catch and fall down. They seem to want JJ to do it, but Ross has been consistent if unspectacular at it.
