That safety situation sticks out like a sore thumb. Yeah Thomas or Ross could step in if someone goes down but I don't know how they can honestly feel comfortable going into the season with Cooper Taylor as the third safety with no one behind him.
I think the issue with Williams is his run defense. Discipline, over pursuing, taking bad angles etc. is why he's not starting. He's still gonna see a lot of playing time in nickel situations with Connor coming off the field so I'm not too worried about it yet.
I don't remember a time when the Giants seemed so unsettled at so many positions going into the first game.
At safety and LB, if even one player goes down, the Giants will be forced away from some alignments, or someone will be playing completely out of position.
O-Line is almost as scary. It isn't like one of the tight ends can slide over to play tackle.
Definitely NOT "next man up" this week. More like "keep your fingers crossed".
I am a sucker for rare speed like his. Admittedly he runs comically soft and has ball security concerns, but I have a feeling he can take this opportunity and run with it. He has actually been pretty damn incredibly productive in the pre season over his career, and now we have two backs who can basically take it to the house on any play. His run against chicago in the preseason a couple years ago was incredible. I worry about pass protection without AB, but I think D-Scott can do something with this chance
each week.. possibly more then some listed "starters"..
he'll most likely be the backup at both outside linebacker spots in addition to how he will be used in certain packages and situations on a fairly common basis..
to garbage time of pre season games this year so I can't speak for my own opinion on Scott's speed at this point. But when he is healthy and in shape he is the fastest guy on the team without question
has anyone really looked at the other safeties in our division Â
He knew his job was on the line and he ran like it. The Giants are bringing in all of these veteran backs and then say they want to see how Scott does in week 1 before making decisions. They are giving him a shot here, hopefully he runs hard like he did in preseason game 4.
is pretty much inapplicable to playing football. But to just give a taste of Scott's long speed, when he was a state champion track star he ran a 10.56 100 meter dash. David Wilson also ran track, and his personal official best time in the 100 meters was 11.01
Scott's long speed is rare even by NFL speedster standards
heavy on the DL and at WR and CB, and perilously thin on OL, at S (Will Hill you jerk!!), mediocre and thin at LB, what else is new?
We are one OT injury away from grounding all the high flying talent JR has amassed--DD as sole backup? And he was the starter before one for the thumb. And it would appear that James (great feet for a big man) Brewer experiment at T has ended, as if there was any doubt, not listed as a T.
has he ever made a move in the open field? hes only very fast in a straight line. granted, pretty damn fast but nevertheless has some limitations as far as the necessary attributes you need to be a good runner in this league
jacquain Williams will still see a lot of snaps at least. but until he starts attacking gaps (not overpursuing, reading the triangle and beating lineman to the hole) hes going to be a situational sub package guy. and I think hell always be that way, some guys develop some guys don't.
Hmm.
Is he 100%?

Nate Allen
Patrick Chung
Earl Wolff (R)
Kurt Coleman
David Sims
Redskins
Brendan Merriweather
Baccari Rambo (R)
Reed Doughty
Jordan Pugh
pretty much all the safeties in our division suck
If I was comfortable with his blocking I'd move Cox ahead of him on the depth chart. he looked better running the ball.

after that I think we'll most likely see J. Williams or a corner like Thomas or Ross out there..
and of course they're probably expecting big contributions from W. Hill after the first 4 games..
