Stacy Dillard, Kenyon rasheed. Always liked Doug Reisenberg. Jarvis Williams; fine safety but couldn't run. Gary downs played like 5 more years in Atlanta
skip to 1:46:46 in the eli manning highlight video below, taylor running by one of the best corners in the nfl at the time (And that year the best secondary, which he did twice in that game)
...I'm as sucker for the somewhat obscure d'backs like Percy Elsworth, Jerremy Lincoln, Sheldon White, Shaun Williams, Dave Thomas, Myron Guyton and the two Wills (Peterson and Allen).
Throw in an underated RB from the '86 Champs - Tony Galbreath and under-talented safetry from the down years of the 70s - #45 Pete Athas and I'm done.
he was pretty good at the peak of those jim johnsons years wasn't he? not to say the eagles had dale carter and james hasty as a combo back there, but when their defensive was in a zone the secondary looked great in those days. brian dawkins and Michael lewis were a good safety tandem as well. 2004 that pass defense im sure was one of the best in the league if not the best
but the blitz like crazy scheme could have made the secondary look better than what it was since it seemed like most teams could never block them up
Damn. I actually remember him. I looked him up and he had 90 yards rushing in the 23-9 '01 home win vs Washington. Field Goal fest game. Sehorn had an INT return for a Touchdown.
some others: Kevin Dockery, Chris Bober, Joe Montgomery, Grey Ruegamer, Ryan Phillips, Will Demps, Kendrick Allen
Duke Calhoun he will always be one that seemed really special to me. We kept the Duke on the roster for one season but he just did not do much with the little time he was given on the field.
Bob Tucker, Clifton McNeil, Tucker Fredrickson, Fred Dryer, Bob Lutsema, Jerry Shay, Jim Kanicki, Matt Hazeltine, Ralph Heck, Jim Files, Scott Eaton, Willie Williams, Bruce Mahar, Carl Lockhart.
Conrad Hamilton particularly. Played really well as a starter filling in for the injured Sehorn in 1998, looked like a long-term keeper then ruined his knee. Scrappy, undersized but physical late-round pick from New Mexico.
Another one - Scott Galyon, who played really well as a nickel LB in 1997. Good speed, great blitzer. Left for the Dolphins and a chance to start, don't know what happened to him after that.
Played inside and outside, subbing in and playing solid ball whenever an LB was hurt in 1989-90. I remember he and Steve DeOssie as the first Giants I ever saw wearing tinted visors.
...Clifton McNiel and Coleman Zeno,RB,Phil King and Ernie Wheelwright,QBs,Glynn Griffing (another Ole Miss guy),Gary Wood,Tom Kennedy and Bob Timberlake (who doubled as a terrible PK),LBs,Ron Hornsby,Jim Files and Jerry Hillebrand,DBs,Scott Eaton,Bill Currier and Herb Welch,DL,Jerome Sally and John Washington,OL,Willie Young and Jim Clack,TE,Bob Crespino,K,Brad Daluiso...you could go on forever-this was a great opportunity for reflection miley-thanks
Fresh out of college, I bought an authentic jersey with his name and #52 on it. I ended up cutting the "Galyon" letters off and replacing them with my last name.
Mike Jennings had potential, until he blew his knee out twice in 2 years. I remember him driving to the stadium on gamedays in a pimped-out car that hopped. Good times...
At least Barden had potential and had that one night in the NFL when he looked like a good player.. Duke Calhoun was never anything and was never going to be. He was a completely forgettable player yet you have this poster who has mentioned him like 500 times. Just weird stuff.
Was a solid player for us in 05, then he left in free agency the next year to Arizona, I recall. One of the early "show-me" 1y contracts Reese later used to good effect.
Lance Legree is another. ND UDFA who went on to have a solid, unspectacular career.
UDFA signed after the draft in '08. He was waived during Cut-down days, signed w/ Oakland PS and then I believe he ended up in Arena football league.
He will always remain in my mind as a BBIer posted a thread titled something like "I consider DJ Hall to be equal to a High 2nd Round Pick." I think of this often as people get excited about UDFA's signing with the Giants (though, numerous ones have worked quite well for us lately.)
It was one of my favorite threads ever. I have searched archives but cannot find it. I am guessing he deleted it after the slaughter he received for that absurd comment as this was not the kinder, gentler BBI back then.
although I'd say that looking at some of the dozens of names here is why I think devoted fans like those on BBI put way too much weight on bottom of the roster battles.
Turns out my son lives next door to him outside of Fayetteville, NC. Whenever my wife and I visit our son and his family, I always come up with an excuse to go next door and chat with Jerry for a few minutes.
Pete Athas gave me his chin strap as a souvenir at the Yale Bowl. First guy I remember with hair coming out of the back of his his helmet. Norm Sneed was qb that year.
vs the Rams...Willie Ponder gave me a wrist band as the players were walking through the tunnel. i gave it to some little kid. Shook ol Archie's hand that game too. The first real "monster" game of Eli's career with 4 TDs and 0 INTs.
and Troy Archer.
A lone wolf of talent, and a what-might-have-been.
Also the infamous Henry Carr and Clarence Childs(aka: Where's-the-receiver? 1 and 2).
Gibril Wilson.
Fine: I'll paraphrase.
"What is a Giants player you haven't heard about in a long time that had a short lived career with the team?"
That good 'nuff?
Yea, I'd say so.
have fun - ( New Window )
Unfortunately, they screwed up his knee surgery when he was in college.
He subsequently reinjured the knee and that was that for the young man.
Curry Burns was from Louisville, right? I remember him as well.
Who could forget Delvin Joyce? Daryl Johnson. FRANKIE FERRARA (bro high motor!)
Also:
Lionel Manuel
But seriously? ....hmmm...
Tito Wooten
Thabiti Davis
Jonathan Carter
Running Back - 2006
Stats: 1 rush for 22 yards.
If the guy averaged 22 yards per carry I wonder why we didn't use him more?

Jeremy Lincoln might have been the worst Giants CB ever.
Dave Thomas was on the 2000 Super Bowl team and he was a starter.. I don't think he was really obscure, either.
Andy Headen, George Archer, Jarrod Bunch, Kevin Belcher, Bill Neil
And my 2 favorite Giants growing up Doug Kotar on offense, Brian Kelley on D
Ernest Gray
Bob Lurtsema
Eldridge Small
Everson Walls
but the blitz like crazy scheme could have made the secondary look better than what it was since it seemed like most teams could never block them up
Curtis Deloetch
I loved his game...I know many here didnt like his blocking but I thought he was a stud...
Ill never forget when he broke his finger...That looked nasty
Pete fuckin Monty
Mike Friede, George Adams, Butch Woolfolk
some others: Kevin Dockery, Chris Bober, Joe Montgomery, Grey Ruegamer, Ryan Phillips, Will Demps, Kendrick Allen

Carson Dach
Jonathan Goff
Guy Whimper
Adrian Season
Kenny Holmes
Pete Mitchell

I think he was related to the Richmond Flowers who was AG of Louisiana.
Lance Legree is another. ND UDFA who went on to have a solid, unspectacular career.
You've failed me BBI.
Good one
RIP Norman Hand

DJ Hall will always give me fond memories.
Particularly made some huge plays in 1984.

Doug Van Horn

DAVID MARKHAM
Beside Campbell and Orduna, that memorable squad had Dan Goich and Joe Taffoni.
1973 and 1966 had to be the worst years to be a Giant fan.
Very nice people.
Speaking of OL how about Derek Engler from Wisconsin
Larry Flowers - he was absolutely the BEST defensive special teams player we ever had. Yes... better than Thompson.
Doug Kotar - our RB in the late 70's. RIP Doug who probably got poisoned by the water at the Meadowlands.
