The same way we beat the Bills in the Superbowl, and Saints beat the Colts in the Superbowl. You have to succeed the run on defense and grind it out and eat-up the run on offense.
When you allow Peyton's offense to run the ball, it takes the ball out of Peyton's hands and grinds the clock out on the other end as well and does not allow him to get into a groove on offense. I think we could win in a shoot out as well, but its not the best strategy when you go up against a hot handed Peyton Manning.
Slim chance that Coughlin/Fewell will even think this way, but honestly its the best way to throw Peyton off his game. Belichick is a genius by the way for employing this type of game-plan back against the Bills in the Super-Bowl.
Plus they are getting miller and bailey back at some point.
We seriously need a big game from the DL and Wilson to beat these guys. Manage the clock and rush the qb.
So from what we saw last night, the Broncos are going to be damn hard to defend, both on offense and defense.
Peyton goes untouched because, like Eli, he is deceptively mobile inside the pocket. My opinion is that we need a strong push up the middle from our DT's to prevent him from stepping up in the pocket.
It didn't work out, to say the least.
unless Peyton has the Mantle gene ... no way can he play well with a hangover ...
Oh…wait …..
The Broncos are going to score points on everyone. You just have to hope your team can take advantage of any mistakes and limit their own.
It'll freak Peyton right the fuck out all game. 7ints!
We are going to have to find ways to pressure Peyton and we are going to have to put a lot of points on the board. No settling for FGs, that's fir sure.
I'm not convinced we're even guaranteed to lose that game the way I'm sure half the board is now.. but I wouldn't even worry about it now. Take care of the Cowboys first.
It's hopefully a classic letdown spot.
But, two things could negate that. Peyton's playing his brother, enough said. Secondly, the Broncos have more than the usual turn around time, so they can more easily get their game face back on for this. Had it been a Monday night game for the Broncos, it would have been better for us.
Personally, I'm glad they looked great last night....we should prepare accordingly.
I wish people would finally get that the NFL, by and large, is not a defensive league anymore..
Flacco needed 62 attempts to get his ~350 yards. That's terrible.
I won't say they made Flacco look like shit, because I think Flacco is more than capable of making himself look like shit.
56 is right. It's just not a defensive league anymore. Teams give up a lot of yards and a lot of plays. Some people will hate it.. but it's reality.
On both sides of the ball you can argue they may have the best squad. The case will more difficult to make on the D but still they do have a top 5 D.
Seattle
SF
Texans
Broncos
Bengals
Clearly, the defense will need to do better than Baltimore did last night. However the key, imho, is to have long drives on offense that result in TD's. We need to limit their possessions.
If we can keep Peyton to 4 or less possessions per half, and we score TD's, we can win this game.
We will probably need to score around 24 points minimum to win though, so let's hope that our offense is clicking by then.
In any event.. the 2012 Giants defense is over. We can talk about how bad they were until we're blue in the face. The 2013 Giants defense does not = the 2012 team. We haven't even played a game yet and we're talking about how awful our defense is. How do we know?
Probability is not in your favor...
2) Win high-leverage plays on defense -- 3rd downs, turnovers, red zone
That's what you have to do to beat a team with an elite offense. It's very difficult to shut them down.
