Well
JoefromPa : 9/9/2013 12:00 am : link
I saw a defense that actually got stops when it mattered, as evidenced by getting two stops in the last 5 minutes with the game on the line.

I think the offensive line can be fixed, and Eli showed tonight what he can do with a little time in utilizing the weapons this team has.

If the defense had been as ineffective as last season I would be as down as most of you seem to be. The Giants can score points, and the mistakes, turnovers, should be corrected

I am not nearly as bummed as I have been after other losses. I have no doubt, had Scott the experience to be available for that pass as he should have been, Eli finds a way to score.

More importantly, if the Giants had gone ahead, I actually felt the Giants defense had a good chance to protect a 1 point lead.
clearly, we need a 70/30 pass/run ratio
SHO'NUFF : 9/9/2013 12:00 am : link
and have BJ back to block.
And Tiki could block
Mason : 9/9/2013 12:00 am : link
Bradshaw fumbled the ball as well. But he would also break off multiple plays. There is a difference with fighting for yardage and giving up the ball vs. wow what happened how did the ball get loose?
Matt M
Overseer : 9/9/2013 12:00 am : link
Perhaps but I can't come up with a reason not to sign a vet who can come in and likely get them 800 yards while Wilson learns "high & tight" and how to block.
I am obviously in the minority here
Matt M. : 9/9/2013 12:01 am : link
but, I don't see a vet RB making one iota of difference on this team...at least not tonight. That vet would have been Torrain. What would he have done, that Scott didn't?
Wilson doesn't have the arm strength to hold onto the ball
Rich Houston-NYG-WR-1971 : 9/9/2013 12:01 am : link
He missed so many blocks he almost got Eli hurt.
Welp, this place has jumped the shark officially for the night.
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/9/2013 12:01 am : link
They're not cutting Wilson, and stop comparing him to late-career Tiki Barber.
Overseer
Matt M. : 9/9/2013 12:02 am : link
Possibly. But, as for tonight, Wilson was going to be the starter regardless of whether or not we had a veteran.
COUPLE OBSERVATIONS
Gmen108021 : 9/9/2013 12:02 am : link
1.Wilson for sure needs to fix issue, however i think he should have been put back into the game. you wanna lose with your best even if its him he loses it for all...scott is average at best...wilson catches that screen IMO
2.Eli looked good, well late in game anyways...the offense as a whole looked out of sync early and often. encouraging though that they were able to make that comeback like they did.
3.LBers are laughable bad, herzluich just gets caught up in the in play, he either over pursues or just gets washed out of the play, we seriously lack a top flight LBer, blame the GM, we added shit this offseason at position.
4.mundy actually looked okay, solid tackler, however two bone head plays from him were one hitting williams as he was on the way to the ground he missed and knocked prince out for a couple weeks i am sure and 2 on the INT how the fuck do you get stopped on half inch line lol...dive the fuck in!!!!!!
5.Rolle is our best defender IMO
6.Dline did okay, got some pressure at times other times looked soft, jpp looked rusty but thats okay, i think jospeh played well.
7. randle hurt us on that punt debacle where ball hit mcbride i didnt see him waving his arms or anytjhing to make our guys aware of the shit punt which will resukt in a shit bounce.
8. however other than that one play randle is a freakn stud, kid looks awesome! we def have 3 legit WRs and can pass with the best of them
9.we could have used andre brown tonight lol...I didnt post when he got hurt, but there was no reason for him to be in that preaseason game...needed reps my ass the guy has been around and has had some success in the league...he would have been carrying ball on 1 yard line after mundy int, he also would have picked uop blitzer that sacked manning on second down of that series.
10.overall the sitch at RB is bad yes but wilson's career doesnt end because oft his...he shoulda been back in this game...the guy has the abilituy to make plays, i think coughlin was hard headed in this situation.
11.its week 1 and we are going to iron out the kinks...overall not a horrible showing and def positive to take from game considering we played horrible had 6 turnovers most leading to points directly and still had a chance to win!
i guess on to the next one!
Even with Wilsons fumbles and Eli's INT's
Blue Blood : 9/9/2013 12:02 am : link
The Giants still had the ability to win the game and they didnt.. They played the worst ive seen a team play in years and they STILL had a chance to win.. Fix the mistakes and the mental errors and move on..
Torrain would have scrored on that 3rd down and goal from one
Rich Houston-NYG-WR-1971 : 9/9/2013 12:02 am : link
Wilson just fell down like a house of cards
AP
Tim in Eternal Blue : 9/9/2013 12:03 am : link
had 16 fumbles between 2008 and 2009.

Calm down with Wilson being a bust. Kid had a tough night.

Lets at least let him redeem himself next week before sticking a fork in him?
Having no short yardage back
Knee of Theismann : 9/9/2013 12:03 am : link
Is really going to hurt us.
yeah, Wilson is fine long term
islander1 : 9/9/2013 12:03 am : link
but man does he sure choke on prime time tv. He's also lucky as shit no one is here to take his carries..really..
Wilson is the titanic..and he hit the iceberg tonight
Rich Houston-NYG-WR-1971 : 9/9/2013 12:05 am : link
Coughlin should never give him another shot
Wilson is going to face
Steve in South Jersey : 9/9/2013 12:05 am : link
intensive efforts to strip him of the ball going forward. He's got a tough row to hoe. I hope that he has the mental toughness to handle tonight and what lies ahead.
Wilson back to KO returns .
BBurns : 9/9/2013 12:05 am : link
McGahee have anything left ...?
The personal foul on the Cooper was an absolute joke .
The defense played decently they were on the field plenty
made some good stops after the turnovers .
Not much touch on that screen pass that careened off
Scotts hands for game. JCN56 well put screw the boys they
aint that good .
Hopefully prince gets back and hats off to TT played a damn good game and will get better . the odds are they were gonna win one and we had to gift wrap it as well .
Cant imagine how bad that locker room must be tonight ..
Fuck SNF games, seriously...
Overseer : 9/9/2013 12:06 am : link
I'm all jacked up, have no chance of falling asleep, and have to be at work in 8 hours.

Gimme 1pm'ers all season long over this shit.
defense played well tonight...they wre on the field for 40 minutes
Rich Houston-NYG-WR-1971 : 9/9/2013 12:06 am : link
for goodness sake..thanks to Wilson
screens
gmenatlarge : 9/9/2013 12:07 am : link
I know it's been brought up but it defies logic as to how bad the giants are at it, Eli included. That 1st pick should have been thrown into the ground, no excuse there.
Rich
chris r : 9/9/2013 12:07 am : link
not a big Wilson fan?
just can the jumbo bunch
whobetta : 9/9/2013 12:07 am : link
goalline formation shit. i have seen e enough of that crap to last a lifetime.
Watching Garrett in the presser
CT Charlie : 9/9/2013 12:08 am : link
and he sounds like they just won the SuperBowl. After 5 turnovers we were still the favorites to win.
I would agree
MookGiants : 9/9/2013 12:08 am : link
with the jumbo packages on the goal line. With this group of players, they're much better spreading it out and just running against less players in a small area. Their lineman don't get a push down there, spread them out and let the RB try to win 1 on 1 battle.
With Wilson I don't think the fumble issue
eclipz928 : 9/9/2013 12:08 am : link
has as much to do with grip on the ball as it does with his style of running. When he makes a initial contact with a defender his natural instinct is to spin his body backward (rather than driving forward or going to the ground).

That spin motion puts extra torque on the ball when a defender has a grip on it during the tackle. That's what I saw today with his 2 strips. Wilson needs to learn how to keep his body facing north as he's getting tackled, otherwise forced fumbles will continue to come easier for defenders.
giants
eleven : 9/9/2013 12:09 am : link
Should be in 3 wide set all game. When Hyno comes in- its a guaranteed run. Just go no huddle all game. This allows Wilson and Scott in space to use their speed rather than run into 5 300 pounders and pass on third and 15. With that said, mcgahee is pretty dam good in short yardage.
Here's the thing about Wilson..
BillKo : 9/9/2013 12:09 am : link
it's your second year.

And you provided zero tonight, in fact, he was a negative.

Two fumbles....not even fighting for yardage or taking a big hit....just simply having the ball ripped out. That's not big league football.

And, whiffing badly on a block that got Eli sacked.

And that's not to mention the lack of any ability to run inside the tackles.

I'm not giving up on the kid, but that was rookie ball stuff tonight.
Blaming Randle for the punt
section125 : 9/9/2013 12:09 am : link
muff is beyond stupid. McBride was ten or fifteen yards from Randle and engaged with his man. That is just a lucky bounce of the ball for Dallas. Randle looked great on punts and if McBride didn't commit a PF just before half they would have had the ball at midfield after a 30 yd return(IIRC).
The relevant Tiki comparison is to 1998.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/9/2013 12:09 am : link
Barber was a mess in his second season: a pass-catching specialist who couldn't catch a cold. I bet there are more than a few BBIers who booed his drops that year.

Anyway, let's all get out to the Swamp next week and cheer David Wilson's every move - not sarcastically, for real. We need the kid to succeed, and he has the tools.
I had high hopes for Wilson..but he missed alot of blocks and
Rich Houston-NYG-WR-1971 : 9/9/2013 12:10 am : link
was not mentally ready to play...you can't teach that.

He was a detriment tonight. He almost got Eli hurt. He is not an nfl running back.
Collingsworth made a lot of good observations ...
Manny in CA : 9/9/2013 12:11 am : link
* Pugh did very well against a team that was trying very hard to take advantage of his inexperience

* Randle is the difference maker on offense, as teams are scared to death of Nicks & Cruz

* Giants will probably be forced to bring a vet RB in till Brown gets back (although Scott played well despite the INT [bad. bad throw by Eli])

* Brewer actually had a decent game; (I thought he was going to be the weakest link)

Willing to bet the people throwing out Tiki comparisons
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/9/2013 12:11 am : link
have no memory of how terrible he looked early on.
Pugh played well
old man : 9/9/2013 12:11 am : link
against DWare. Pleasant surprise.
Amazing how Dallas got the deflection picks, fumbles(even their own) and even the onside rolled to them, and w/o pick 3 likely lose this game.
The TOM is going to likely drop an F-bomb or 2, hundred , at the team meeting/tape review. Paint will melt off walls from blood pressure heat.
I can see John Mara making a trip to the locker room for a statement of 'encouragement'.
Wilson will not stay in the doghouse long as he is the franchise RB, and there is not a reliable vet to replace him. It's an OJT situation for player, team, and fans we all have to live though. This is the Pain in no pain no gain. And it looks like he has learn to get the ball into the 'away' arm; both runs to left, both fumbles in right arm. May have to sacrifice some speed for ABlike 2 arm ball security.

You can't blame randle for the punt. It was a short punt
Rich Houston-NYG-WR-1971 : 9/9/2013 12:11 am : link
imo
Eli-
AnishPatel : 9/9/2013 12:12 am : link
"He thought Scott was going to turn around and sit. He said he made a move, and it went off his arm. Young Rbs and they need to get on the same page"

Post game now.
We lost the game and the turnover battle by 5
mack809f : 9/9/2013 12:12 am : link
We have no running game, trading for Ingram would be a big upgrade. The dline was fine against the run but the pass rush was disappointing. Eli passed for 450 yards but had 2 bad picks and another off Scott.. Munday and Pugh were good, but how long will prince be out? Wilson should be returning kicks again. We won't have a shot against Payton if we don't hit him.
section 125
Gmen108021 : 9/9/2013 12:12 am : link
Randle didnt wave his arms or anything its his responsibility with mcbrides back turned to say something...mcbride ran right into it...yes it was an unlucky bounce but if randle speaks up mcbride turns other way....they run away from the returner because he sees the football. not bashing randle just stating the truth
Rich has made 9 post so far on this thread, each one
BigBlueBuff : 9/9/2013 12:12 am : link
with the exact same complaints about David Wilson. That's some quality contribution to BBI, let me tell you.
pugh did play well tonight
Rich Houston-NYG-WR-1971 : 9/9/2013 12:14 am : link
Wilson lost it for the Giants tonight. If Scott started we would have won the game. Scott when carrying the ball is stronger.
It's obvious to anyone who isn't wearing blinders
Geomon : 9/9/2013 12:14 am : link
That Wilson isn't ready and for a first round pick, that's inexcusable. I don't care whose fault it is, but something needs to be done about it and soon.
Wow
Rob_MTL : 9/9/2013 12:14 am : link
Some of you are pathetic losers.
Stop with trading for ingram, it was a fake fucking rumor
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/9/2013 12:14 am : link
Fake. Not real.
Chris Snee: the 12 million dollar man
oipolloi : 9/9/2013 12:14 am : link
anyone still care to argue that some nepotism is not involved?
BBB exactly - Tiki was talented
section125 : 9/9/2013 12:15 am : link
but kept messing up and was a fumbling disaster until Coughlin got there.
Hell I'm as angry as anybody at Wilson's fumbles, but that is correctable.

Not so sure about the shitty play calling in the red zone. I have said it numerous times - spread the D out in the redzone with 3 WRs and get 9 out of the box.

As bad as they played they still were only beat by 5, and the pick six was the dagger.
trading for Ingram would be a great move
Rich Houston-NYG-WR-1971 : 9/9/2013 12:15 am : link
but what would we offer
David Wilson will be fine..
SHO'NUFF : 9/9/2013 12:16 am : link
Snee, however, is done...stick a fork in him.
You can't offer anything
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/9/2013 12:16 am : link
because he's not up for sale.
mack809f: Wilson returning kicks is all well and good...
Big Blue Blogger : 9/9/2013 12:17 am : link
...but how would that have mattered tonight? And why do you think it would matter next week?

Did you not like the way Cox took a knee nine yards deep in the end zone? Would Wilson do it better?
At least twice, Chris Snee was just standing around at the end of a
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/9/2013 12:17 am : link
play, not blocking anyone, looking backward wondering what happened because he was beaten soundly.
Wilson was the difference
DavidinBMNY : 9/9/2013 12:17 am : link
He lost this one IMHO. He's won them before (Saints game) as well.

Coughlin can fix RB's.

And we're getting a veteran for next game.
