Don't Kill the Messenger but Brandon Jacobs

SoZKillA : 9/9/2013 1:40 am
Apparently has a work out scheduled with us for Tuesday, per his long time friend and boxing colleague Kendall Holt

@Kholt456: The messiah, will be at Giants Stadium working out for the team Tuesday Morning @nfl_am _ericdavis_ @ http://t.co/nLCqDxTo51

Jacobs is a firecracker in the locker room and on the field. Wilson needs someone like Jacobs to straighten him out. He knows our system, scares the Hell out of D Backs and can block his ass off. The risk to reward is very low. And we can get him at the league minimum.

TEAM BJ!!!
i'd like to know how McGahee
UConn4523 : 9/9/2013 8:37 am : link
is healthwise. I'd love him here for 8-10 carries including all goaline work/short yardage. Was dinged a bit last year but no offseason work this year should have allowed a good amount of healing.

Anakim : 9/9/2013 8:37 am : link
Margi, you're the last one to talk about football knowledge. I know your secrets so shut your mouth.

Gary, the key word is "hope." He's done very little in the past few years to prove he can revert to the Jacobs of old.
I'd prefer Dwyer
UConn4523 : 9/9/2013 8:38 am : link
and a semi-healthy McGahee over Jacbos who really can't do much at this point. He'll pass block, but that isn't our problem.
Enough already - Brandon Jacobs sucks

I'm with Gary on this one
gidiefor : Mod : 9/9/2013 8:38 am : link
the RBs looked a little lost last night - Jacobs might be the right medicine for them. Jacobs is a great blocker.

I agree that he has not shown he can be a short yardage guy consistently - but he can bust one out - he's mad dangerous in the open field - and he can lay a hard lick on the best of the defensive backs.
Cross Dwyer off

Resigned with Steelers.

gidiefor : Mod : 9/9/2013 8:40 am : link
are you serious - pass block is definitely an issue - Wilson almost got Eli killed last night - the not being able to keep the ball is only part of the problem. Someone ran right past him last night - unabated - and got right to Eli.
Does anyone honest to god actually believe this o-line
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/9/2013 8:41 am : link
can pave the holes Jacobs needs to be effective? They can't even really hold blocks for a 5'9 200lb runner. They're going to spring a run for Jacobs? Come on.
If not Jacobs
LawrenceTaylor56 : 9/9/2013 8:42 am : link
who else then? I don't see any great alternatives out there.
gidie
UConn4523 : 9/9/2013 8:42 am : link
we aren't not going to use Wilson though so he'll have to work on it. We aren't signing a guy that will be the feature back. We are signing a guy that can a). light a fire under Wilson's ass, b). can get short yardage, and c). can pass block.

All are obviously important, but Wilson got benched for getting stuffed and fumbling.

Jacobs:

He can block. He's not going to rush for 1000 yards. He's not going to break off many long runs. I'm not sure if he's done or not. I do know he'll protect Eli and can pound for a few here and there. No big back on this roster is killing the Giants. Dwyer? A never was with fumbling problems. Hightower? Another never was. Michael Turner? Probably the same upside/downside as Jacobs. Bring him in and see what he's got left. Seriously, after that shit show? How could it be worse?
Irony? Hypocritical?
Anakim : 9/9/2013 8:50 am : link
I'll keep my mouth shut to avoid having this blow up, but just so you know, I know your secrets and I'll just say that you have as much football knowledge as Rich Houston.

And we all know rnargi's dirty little secret:

rnargi is a man!!!

Pretty much this.

So I disagree with that statement. Pass blocking is a big part of the problem.

I don't know anything about what's going on. I assumed that they were waiting after week 1 to sign another back due to cap reasons. I was surprised that Torain was cut, others weren't. I would think Torain ges another look, too. Been with the team for a while and played pretty well in the pre-season.
Jonathan Dwyer is a never was...ok
Anakim : 9/9/2013 8:55 am : link
A 24 year old never was. Meanwhile, he had 2 100+ rushing games last year, which is one less than Jacobs has had since 2008.

Did you know he didn't allow one sack in pass protection last year?
Rob
pganut : 9/9/2013 8:55 am : link
I'll spare you the indignity.

Folks, he really doesn't make his own gravy....it's really Ragu!

There.

Jacobs is not OJ Anderson
oldutican : 9/9/2013 8:55 am : link
If TC & Co. is so desperate for someone to protect Eli out of the gun that they sign BJ, I could maybe see it. But as much as I loved him in his prime, Jacobs is no longer a productive runner.
Wait…..

Agree with Margi,

Torrain gets brought back..
I'd rather stick with the guys we've got
Go Terps : 9/9/2013 9:05 am : link
I don't know why people would expect someone that wasn't at camp to walk in off the street and do a good job.

Wilson and Scott can both play. Work with them to improve.
gidie
UConn4523 : 9/9/2013 9:20 am : link
its A problem, but not THE problem. We luckily have a smart QB who can react to blownup blocking. It isn't ideal, and I don't like either, but that isn't why we are hitting the FA pool this week.

Wilson cannot hold onto the ball and by previous reports, he looks like he isn't mentally there (too hard on himself, too mental about things, too emotional, whatever). Short yardage is also a massive problem. We score on the 1 yard line after that Mundy pick and I think the coaches, and fans all believe we win that game.

If he is somewhat healthy, i'd love McGahee. Proven vet, worked with Peyton, can fit in any offense, can pick up blitzes, can get the tough yard, and would be on a team that he has playoff hopes.
I'm sure they'll be avoiding backs with a fumbling history
aimrocky : 9/9/2013 9:24 am : link
which McGahee and Dwyer have. I have a feeling it'll be Beanie, Jacobs or Lumpkin.
Seriously
mrvax : 9/9/2013 9:28 am : link
Better off bringing in Tiki Barber for a workout.
There's no harm in bringing Jacobs in for a workout,
Section331 : 9/9/2013 9:43 am : link
but he's done. RB's don't suddenly get it back after losing it, and Jacobs lost it 3 years ago.
the tough yard isnt coming
islander1 : 9/9/2013 9:43 am : link
because our OL keeps getting abused. Even by a thin Dallas defensive line. They completely failed at imposing their will on the Dallas defensive line. Every run play, the lineman were past the LoS before Wilson or Scott got to the line.

I agree with njm. I think they sign Torain.

we all get it it - you love McGhee - but having Eli leveled isn't a problem

smh
Jacobs? Who are we cutting?
dguy901 : 9/9/2013 10:48 am : link
1 game does not a season make, especially when the OL is in disarray, your QB throws 3 picks and your feature RB fumbles twice ( the 2nd time he was being held upright while they ripped at the ball).
Jacobs doesn't fit when you consider who would be cut to give him a roster spot. I would prefer to see Wilson be benched (so he never forgets to hang onto the ball and hit the ground when 3-4 defenders have him) next game with a healthier Hyno, Scott and some game time for the rook, Cox. Cox has comparable size as Brown, he is a little faster and stronger. Lets see how well the RB alt's perform in practise this week. Way to early to panic. JMHO.

Clap Clap Clap.

I couldn't have said it better myself. You're one of the most knowledge posters here and that piss brain is better off ranting on his twitter account. Kudos bro.

In your view Rob which would you choose:

McGhee
Jacobs
Torrain

I'd like McGhee as I think he can do the most in terms of yards but he does not know the offense.
Torrain I don't think is so good.
Anyone seen this video of Brandon Jacobs working out, running 40...?
Bied7 : 9/9/2013 4:22 pm : link

He's been posting videos of him lifting

And today he posted a 40 yard dash which he ran a 4.4, I know it's all short and T Shirt stuff but we can use the big man

A few thoughts
Matt M. : 9/10/2013 12:46 am : link
1) I love how people dismiss some RBs as never was, but call for Torrain. That's pretty much what he is also.

2) I was never convinced Jacobs was done. I thought each of his final 2 seasons with us he was the best back on the roster at the end of the season.

3) That said, I am not convinced he isn't done either. It has been more than a season since he took a meaningful snap. That could either be valuable rest, or add to rust.

4) Michale Turner is the most interesting option. If his ankle is sound, he is easily the most talented of the group. But, there has to be a reason a player of his caliber remains unsigned. I wouldn't rule him out even if he isn't signed immediately, again dependent on his ankle.
