Jerry Reese needs some blame

had been thinking before the season started that management/coaching staff was using bad judgement at RB.

You have a near rookie that has a track record of having fumblitis and another back who has a big history of leg injuries. Also at least one of them is not proven in pass protection.

I think it was a bad move to not keep Bradshaw before last nights game. Bad wheels and all he is a gamer.

I'd be happy if they brought Jacobs back if he is in football shape just to help keep Eli safe and for leadership/mentoring.

usually players are cut before the painfully costly years of these backloaded contracts hit the cap, yes? or, as a show of good faith, they're asked to take a pay cut and remain with the team. this is exactly what happened with webster. he had a down year in 2012 due in part to injuries, was slated to make 8+ million this year, was asked to take a pay cut to remain with the team, and did.

i don't know if snee was approached with a similar proposition and declined to take a pay cut knowing reese wasn't comfortable enough with the depth at OG to outright cut him, or what. if this is the case, it speaks to a lack of forward planning in regard to the OL more generally. but i acknowledge it's been a bit of a tough unit to address, with seubert and o'hara departing the same year. and i certainly give reese credit for drafting beatty and gradually phasing diehl out at LT.

has nailed down the one specific area that is the problem for the Giants? And it is the GM that is considered one of the best in the business? That's precious.

We wouldn't have nicks, hosley, prince, or randle. Thus making us weak at corner and receiver. Its difficult to field a competitive all around team, when 1/5 of the salary goes to the qb. go back to 2001, they get Seubert UDFA, 2003 Diehl in Rd 5, 2004 O'Hara as an FA, 2005 Snee in Round 2, Kareem McK as FA. So a stellar line cost only one high pick.

Now look at the last few years since 2009. Baas is the the lone FA. Maybe the worst JR signing since he's been GM.

As for the draftees: Beatty 2009 rd 2 has become a solid LT. 2010 Petrus Rd 5, 2011 Brewer Rd 4, 2012 Moseley Rd 4 and McCants Rd6, 2013 Pugh Rd 1, Herman Rd 7. Of this group, Pugh looks like a player, Brewer is playing but iffy. The rest are gone.

So, since 2009, 6 draftees, 1 confirmed starter in Beatty, 1 rookie starter in Pugh. One big maybe in Brewer (I hope he makes it. No UFDA finds, one bust FA in Baas.

If Brewer doesn't develop into a player, look for another high pick at OL. And maybe even if he does pan out. Snee needs to be replaced and they will need a Center sooner rather than later.

the players are on the field making millions. our guys are just inconsistent, its that simple.

in many cases when commenting on a GM. People see weak spots on the roster and naturally place blame for not addressing them, but those same people rarely say, "You know, the QB, WR and DL positions are stacked!".

There are unrealistic expectations about a lot of the roster makeup, espeically once cap implications come into play. Optimus has done a great job is explaining how the cap has come into play. For instance, Reese signing a RB prior to week 1 wasn't feasible because then the team is on the hook for his full year salary.

Furthermore, fans often look at rosters as if they are still in the pre-salary cap landscape, and this is the exact atmosphere that produces the dynamic where holes in certain positions are damned, but excellence at positions is expected.

the roster is always a gamble somewhere--though we know S will be ok after 4-game suspension is over for will hill. 1 of those spots is because we are carrying 3 QBs for this year only. reese was already looking at other RBs before the dallas game, so 1 might be signed, but the problem isn't numbers, injuries, or talent, just inexperience. wilson should still play because he is dynamic. remember tiki had fumbling problems and look how he turned out as a runner--terrific!

that Reese is limited by something called the salary cap? Not saying Reese is perfect, but there's only so much a GM these days can do. Some here have said Ozzie Newsome is the best GM in the biz. How many SBs has he won in the last 10 years? ONE.

Some of the same guys whining today were whining after we lost our first 2 games of '07. Chill out, it's a long season.

you're really doing well if about 3 of them turn out to be solid.

we've won 2 of the last 6 and I am not giving up after the first game of the season. Which, btw, they were in despite a ridiculous number of TOs that I'm sure Coughlin and staff will correct. Chill out, people.

another reason why drafting late round developmental QBs seems to be a misinformed draft strategy. another problem is likely that it appears to take years to learn the offensive system.

WR. That's it. 3 good-great players, and absolutely nothing after them. But there's 3.

No other area on this team is considered stacked.

DL is maybe considered solid.

I looked up drafting history the last 5-7 years. It's one or two good - great hits, and 5 spectacular misses every year. That's a problem. the draft is either a homerun or a strikeout. no in between. It's why the OL is a mess, it's why the safety situation is a mess. It's why the CB is a big question mark. It's why the RB is a ? It's why the TE is a ? It's why the the LB is a ?

Let's face it. This team is, and has been a consistent 8-8 team +/- a game. Beats being a bottom dweller every year. But it also doesn't make me think we're competing for the title this year, or any year.

as if other teams don't have the same problem.

Name a team and I'll show you it's questionmarks and draft failures.

The Cowboys haven't been able to draft at OL for 15 years.

Bill Belichick's defensive backs are a mess, defense hasn't been stable in years. They just cut their 21st overall pick from the 2011 draft.

The Green Bay Packers have a suspect, questionmark-filled defense that allows yards and points and doesn't get stops.

Picked Wilson in 1st round, had Brown who pretty decent when healthy, brought in Torain, not to mention Scott and Cox.

At RB, it's on the coaches... They watch practice and evaluate players on the roster. If they didn't think Wilson and Scott are ready, why let Torain go and go with youth possibly too soon.

the reality is it's on the Reese. He is the GM and the ultimate decision maker of this roster.

It's the Organization as a whole that is actually helps Reese out. From Marc Ross and the scouting department they are the ones doing the dirty work to help Reese with the draft, FA ect...so calling out Reese on the lack of quality depth like people have isn't total correct, but like I said he is ultimately responsible for it.

With the coaches input Reese decided that we were set at the RB position with Wilson, Scott and Cox. What chaps my ass is that they knew that we didn't have a RB, NOT ONE F'N RB, on the roster that can pass protect. How do you go into a game knowing this and do nothing about it? Especially when we are so reliant on the RB to be able to help protect Eli.

They had over a week since Brown went down to do something and they choose do do shit. If you knew that this was a problem and you choose to just ignore it then I've got a huge problem.

Other issues....how do you go into the season with 5 LB and 3 safeties? Yet we carry 4 TE???

Conner goes down and it leaves us with the WORST MLB that is still on a NFL roster to play. Great story, but I'm sorry Herzlich shouldn't be on our roster.

Just thank our lucky stars that Mundy didn't come out of the game after that collision with Price. Taylor is NOWHERE close to being ready to play and that would've been scary as hell if he had to play more than the one play that he did.

We played with fire in the first game and got burned.

Btw, I can't help but think that our salary cap situation didn't come into play with some of my feelings above.

Very seldom do they force a player the HC doesnt want, or let go of a player the HC wants... unless of course there are cap issues, or drafted players on rookie contract.

I'd imagine the way it works, once the player is signed its the coaches who grade players and decide on the build up of the roster.

In his pressers leading up to the game TC was complimentary of Scott, talked about how strong he ran against the Pats, and to me it sounded genuine, not some corporate line. I think TC made the decision, or at least was a part of the decision.
