Most Disliked Giants

CMicks3110 : 9/9/2013 10:55 pm
We always revere some of the great giants, like Eli, Bavaro, LT, and so on and so forth. But which current or former Giant players are most disliked by our fanbase?

Is it Tiki Barber? Jeremy Lincoln? C.C. Brown?
Oh, and it doesn't mean the player is disliked just because
CMicks3110 : 9/9/2013 10:56 pm : link
he's a bad player, but perhaps because he was an ass
my father hated

Shockey from just about day 1. I did not, I always liked him, but could see how the older people didn't like him
Brian Mitchell.

Can't say I ever truly disliked any Giant
David in LA : 9/9/2013 11:13 pm : link
I learned to eventually like most players if they were someone I wasn't crazy about in the draft or FA. If I had to pick a guy, it'd be Jeremiah Parker. He never really got on the field, but what he did to his child makes him a true piece of shit. Danny Kannell broke the 'bro code, so he's another that I don't like.
Shockey
Buck Dharma : 9/9/2013 11:20 pm : link
tarnished his legacy with NYG by his childish behavior and forcing his way off the team.

He seemed to try hard and it wasn't his fault he was drafted 4 rounds too high, but I couldnt stand the sight of sinorice moss.
Elvis Patterson
Scott in Montreal : 9/9/2013 11:22 pm : link
He was so bloody horrible. I remember people calling him toast because he got burnt so often.

Corey Widmer. I just could not stand him. He was terrible.

Romen Oben. A huge pylon pretending to be an o-lineman.

Finally. Kevin Booth. There are times when he is great and then there are times he is the second coming of Oben. For me Booth is the Disney land of o-line men. Every play is an adventure.
Maybe it wasn't fair because I'm sure he tried his best...
arcarsenal : 9/9/2013 11:24 pm : link
And he seemed like a good dude.. but I couldn't fucking stand the sight of Matt Dodge.. and it was because I KNEW he was going to cost us a game somehow, someway at some point.. and sure the fuck enough... I don't even need to continue.
I was never a fan of Shockey

arcarsenal : 9/9/2013 11:26 pm : link
He's one of our better offensive linemen and was a versatile piece on a Super Bowl winning team.
Arc, I don't hate Matt Dodge, just what he represents lol
David in LA : 9/9/2013 11:27 pm : link
Only way that punt to DeSean could have been worse is if he butt fumbled the game away instead.
Dodge, no doubt
Jerry in DC : 9/9/2013 11:27 pm : link
And arguing with the "we need to develop a punter" or "he's going to haunt us if we cut him" crowd on BBI didn't help. Or the old "you don't understand how hard punting is!" argument.

He was so bad at what is, relatively speaking, one of the easiest jobs in football. Wish him all the best in retirement or whatever, but man did I hate having him on the Giants.

Elvis Patterson was called Toast because that's what Parcells called him in his rookie camp as he made the conversion from college standup DE to NFL CB. He became a pretty good CB.

Tiki as a player, despise him in retirement. Never liked Tarkenton either. Big mouth whiner, whines his way to a stacked team that Joe fucking Kapp took to the Super Bowl and couldn't win the big one. He couldn't stay in the pocket and march a team down the field when the money was on the table.

...who didn't get the most out of it, and where injuries weren't the dominant factor. William Joseph is a good example, although he seems to have been a good kid in other respects. Derek Brown is another. Butch Woolfolk. Tyrone Wheatley.

Guys like Ron Dayne, Sinorice Moss and Tim Carter were more the team's fault than the the players'. They had huge holes in their games from day one.

I was never a big Shockey fan, but the guy had passion. He's just dumb as a brick. He and Burress were both Faustian bargains. The team knew the deal with them, and chose to take the bad with the good.

a player like Dave Brown ... who did all that was asked of him but just wasn't good enough ... same as Ron Dayne ... whose college career was made because he was faster that the college defenses he faced ... but we asked him to play his size because he wasn't faster than NFL defenses ... or some other player who was slowed by injuries ...

Save the hate for a Derek Brown or the ilk who looked at their rookie contract as retirement pay ...

I know Derek personally as he lives by me and I've coached against him the last few years. He's a class guy, great with the kids and a solid member of this community.

You didn't like his production as a Giant? Fine. You're unhappy with how the draft turned out? Fine.

Hate? Fucking absurd.

Hate Junkin? A guy who was put in an impossible situation and has lived the rest of his life with severe depression and regret from that day in San Fran?

the two
PaulBlakeTSU : 9/10/2013 9:25 am : link
that come to mind

1. Jeremy Shockey: I have always hated arrogance and selfishness, but Shockey took it to another level when it came out that he would just run his own routes and do whatever he wanted after the snap. It's that kind of behavior that obstructs our offense and makes Eli look bad.

2. Lomas Brown- not necessarily what he did while on the Giants, but when he admitted that he tanked plays in Detroit so that his QB Scott Mitchell could get knocked out of the game, I lost all respect for a guy who considerably had a great career.

B in ALB: The dislike of Derek Brown is dislike of the PLAYER...
Big Blue Blogger : 9/10/2013 10:05 am : link
... not the person. Re-read the original post, and the question posed. Brown was a terrible player and a disastrous draft choice. I'm sure he's a good guy and all. I'm glad his life has turned out well, and you have every right to defend your friend. Unfortunately, as a Giant, he sucked. First round picks who utterly suck will be disliked by the fans.

The two D. Browns embodied everything that went wrong during the last third of George Young's tenure; Following Mark Bavaro and Phil Simms made them especially easy to dislike as players, though by all accounts they are completely likable off the field.

I don't think anyone can hate LT - the player.

As a former player who played with and against NFL guys I suppose I have a very hard time understanding how fans can have such hatred towards guys on their favorite team who are doing their level best to succeed in a very tough occupation.

I used to hear fans at the college level scream some of the nastiest shit imaginable within earshot of my mother and other player's parents - used to drive me nuts.

And oipolloi harping on BBI "censors" is the height of ironic idiocy.

Big Blue Blogger : 9/10/2013 11:39 am : link
When he first arrived, the press on him was very sympathetic. Maybe that was fluff, or maybe things went south for him later. In any case, I was thinking mostly of how I viewed the players while they were here. In Joseph's case, it was mostly: "Seems like a decent kid. I really shouldn't dislike him so much just because he stinks."
Another Giant who generated a lot of hostility was Umenyiora.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/10/2013 11:53 am : link
Two main issues with Osi:

1) Largely one-dimensional player who - either by design or inclination - didn't show much interest in the dirty work of defending the run (a stark contrast to his supposed role model, Strahan).

2) Incessant whining about a contract that gave him security against injury, although that contract worked out much better for him than it did for the team, since he lost one season to injury and was severely impaired during at least two others.
Yeah, I hate Cruz too
