Dont know how much he has left, but worth a shot. Knows the system, had a year to heal, out to prove something, maybe gives the Giants some tips on the Niners in case we meet in the playoffs... getting ahead of myself, but just saying
to see what he has left. No questioning his intensity on the field though. I hope he actually gets some playing time against Denver - would be nice to leave those LBers hurting a little (and of course, anyone from the secondary who wants to get trucked).
Now enough with all the ridiculous hyperbole after a bad loss, and lets get ready for Denver. There are 15 more games to be played before the play-offs are decided. This season is far from being over for us.
he is fresh and in the best shape of his life. And the emotion he will bnring to the locker room will be great. So happy they went with a guy who knows our system and is fresh. Not injured or in off field trouble. I think the big guy is going to show us all we were wrong about him not being able to comeback. His legs are ready and he has stayed in shape. Perfect dose of what we need. He will give the team a spark to the heart
hopefully it'll carry over onto the field. I hope he understands his role though, Jacobs certainly vents his frustration if he doesn't like what they have him doing.
more than 3 yards on a single play, his celebration intensity is going to be off the charts. And if he scores a TD...I'd say taking down the goal posts is in play.
If his conditioning is anywhere close to where it needs to be, Jacobs can immediately slide back in and contribute. If nothing else, he immediately becomes our best blocking back and a back that Eli trusts. Have absolutely no problem with this move.
Guaranteed he doesn't convert the first 3d and 1 or 4th and 1
They need someone to pick up the blitz. We know that Jacobs can do that. They need someone who can chip like a Mac fucking truck out of the backfield. They know he can do that. If he can do that and get a few yards a game and hold the fort until Brown gets back, everything else would be gravy. And you can't discount that he'll absolutely have a positive impact on Wilson.
I wonder what Anikam thinks about this? Maybe he has a secret he can share.
who think we should go with what we got, but it's hard not to be psyched about seeing #27 out there again. Maybe it's just nostalgia. A handful of carries and some bone-crushing blocks and chip blocks? I'll take it, even if it makes us predictable.
But keep in mind, Jacobs was never a great short-yardage runner, as per BB56's comment on previous thread. He's a competent blocker and was probably the best short-term option available. He can help with mentor support for Wilson as well as Cox. I still think Cox could be an Ahmad Bradshaw waiting to happen and has much more upside than Scott. Cox has the potential to be a good short yardage back, ala Bradshaw, and Wilson does as well. I just hope Jacobs isn't a hamstring pull waiting to happen. But, welcome back, Big Guy!
Seriously, you know I tend to go with track records. How can i in good conscience laud this regime and then say or imply that they don't know more than I do? They do, but I can still hayte the move which I, as a fan, do
to be excited about this, but I think his presence will make our offense worse. It's bad enough the Giants rely too heavily on punting and field goals on fourth and short, but they were also in love with the idea of giving Jacobs the ball on third and short. Unfortunately, he runs too upright and takes too long to accelerate and hasn't been an effective short yardage back for a long time.
...especially as a pass protector. Emotional firebrand for the offense. Should be well rested and ready to go. Leadership for Wilson to help the young man fulfill his potential. Welcome back Brandon.
he's not the answer as a third and short guy.....nobody else is looking like a world-beater on 3rd and short on this roster right now, so Jacobs cant be any worse.
Who would you trust one 3rd and short more than BJ at this point? Wilson (fumble issues)? Scott (hasnt proved he can do it at all, more of a speed back)? Cox (rookie with no experience)?
Last game we had a makeshift OL with many not playing normal positions but, I'm on the outside and nobody would pay me squat to make NFL personnel decisions or to coach. Not sure he will play this week, I would hope he works into it since he hasn't played in over a year. I still would like to see Scott start, give Cox some playing time and be sure to get DW involved. Oh well thats my 2 cents! JMHO.
or protections he can come in right away and contribute. Our offense is just not physical, maybe jacobs can add a little bit off that to these guys, his nastiness can be infectious at times. It's a good fit for both sides IMO
I don't really understand hating this. How is it going to hurt? We're going to stop giving the ball to the guy who keeps converting on short yardage in favor of Jacobs? Oh... that's right, we don't have one of those guys.
Anything that helps protect #10 is a good thing.
And if it was Jacobs instead of Wilson in the game on that 2nd down play from the 1 where Eli got sacked, Eli probably throws a TD pass instead.
I'm sure he knows where he is in his career, he had to try out for the team that originally drafted him and has played in how long? I'm sure he has no illusions.
starts next week? Jacobs, Wilson, or Scott? I really hope Wilson gets another chance to be the lead back. Hope that he learned from his mistakes and is ready to move on from them. We'll see.

David Wilson will learn a lot from Brandon Jacobs and when the time comes again David Wilson will be a productive RB in our league.
Steve Weatherford @Weatherford5 32m
Congrats to one of the most intense players I have ever played alongside @gatorboyrb WELCOME home
Brandon role will be very specific: In obvious passing situation as Elis personal protector. Snee is looking like DDii out there, he is missing blocks left and right. The Giants need a player that can at least slow down a 300lb DT on the loose.
Hinoski did it in the past but he doesnt look ready.
Welcome back....hope you are used the way you should be used.....he is not starter material....use him for blocking on 3rd down, and to give Wilson/Scott a breather....
As I said before, he may have a few good runs and the next thing you know Coughlin tries to make starter out of him....don't do it Tom....Give Wilson a chance....
Now, if Jacobs fulfills his roll, what happens when Brown is ready?
Hopefully his desire to return brings with it the earlier Jacobs, who was a beast, and not the tiptoe style runner who tried to always bounce outside the past few years with the team.
week 9 (the bye week)? A RB will most likely be cut to make room for him: either Da'Rel Scott or Jacobs). Da'Rel Scott is probably the more likely of the two to get cut then.
going for his knees and ankles again. Well he has had time to heal so we should get some milage out of him. Now if he can start catching some screens, we might have something here for a change of pace.
for this since the 49ers cut him. He is a Giant, he has been a BIG part of their Super Bowl Championships, If he has anything left, he brings more attitude and enthusiasm back with him.
jacobs can certainly pick up blitzes and catch the occasional pass or run a handful of times a game. another big plus is his emotional pregame speeches.
not worried about what happens when brown gets back
Wilson to increase upper-body strength (decrease stolen balls);
Scott to increase lower-body strength so he doesn't go to the turf after the first touch.
I never wanted him to leave and i think its a great move bringing him back for a variety of reasons. To all you guys who oppose this move, stop bitching and man up!
We don't need jacobs to run the ball more than 5 times a game.
We need him to pass protect and not get Eli killed. He is the only person who was available, besides DJ Ware, who has had the experience back their with manning. Plus he can teach Wilson how to be a true back in this league.
I remember when bradshaw was given the nod over jacobs, he struggled at first to be the top guy. Wilson is obviously still going through some growing pains and i still expect him to be the star back i know he is capable of becoming. It will only be a matter of time with jacobs being back their with him.

Ralph Vacchiano@RVacchianoNYDN26s
What's Brandon Jacobs' role with the Giants? "Whatever they need me to do, he said. Whatever role they want me to play."
He's not coming in here to log 275 carries and be The Man. He's gonna spell the young guys and hopefully school them on the finer points of the position, maybe help Wilson with ball security and confidence. One thing I don't want to see is the disappearance of David Wilson. Yeah, he's gotta clean some things up. But he's still the most explosive player on the team not named Cruz. It was also his first fumble in over 130 carries and IMO needs to be on the field. He's a weapon the likes of which we haven't had at RB. And for what it's worth one of BBI's favorite "what if..." topics, Doug Martin, lost 2 fumbles on Sunday too.
taught BJ an important lesson about being a selfless team player. He thought he was being mistreated with the Giants, but got a real eye opener with how other teams treat their players.
but I remember right before he left that I was thinking he was DONE. I dont think he found the fountain of youth either. What he brings to this team right now more than anything is an attitude that is missing from the offense. It is as if we have a bunch if pussycats and we need a big dog instead.
1. If gets past the first level of blockers, he can carry most linebackers 5 or more yards on his back.
From what I've read, some here doubt he will touch the ball anytime soon. I sure hope he does. In my view, this offense has been primarily focused on passing for years. Run blocking is just not a priority, and this is why Jacob's struggled in his last two seasons. If there are no openings in the first level then it's very difficult to gain momentum. However, Jacobs is a beast when the O-line opens up room for him to run through.
2. My Jacobs jersey is no longer obsolete! It remains to be seen if Andre Brown is willing to give up number 27.
you shouldn't be worried about an old has been coming here for one last gasp, filling in for an injured vet.
The alternative is that an old has been coming in for one last gasp is actually a better option. It's bad enough that a never has been journeyman was going to be a co-starter prior to injury.
IF Wilson is anything to write home about, he'll make Jacobs irrelevant and a waste of money.
Jacobs may be 34 in your guidebooks, but he's 27 and (#1!)
is never obsolete. Some guys relevance long outlives their careers. He has more rushing TDs than any Giant in history and he was a key part of 2 Giants SB teams. You could rock a Jacobs jersey 25 years from now the same way someone would rock a Bavaro today. It's always in style. You didn't go buy a Ron Dayne jersey in 2000 when you made this purchase. Im personally not a jersey guy and haven't gotten one since Strahan like 15 years ago when i was in HS. But a Jacobs is never obsolete
I can't pretend to know how important it is for the team itself, but as a fan, it sure is more enjoyable when the team exudes physicality and arrogance (backed up, of course). Just figuratively punch someone in the mouth each week, en route to a 3-4 yard gain, a la the Charles Woodson demolition, and that'd be awesome. Maybe that gets the team fired up and gets them playing better. Who knows. I don't. But as a fan of entertainment, I'll sure as hell enjoy it.
Joe, Jacobs may never be obsolete, but I wanted to give it a couple years post-49ers run before I donned the #27 Jacobs again. That run didn't sit well with me.
reading after Jacobs was cut last year that what the Giants would miss most was his pass blocking for Eli. Well, if he protects Eli as he did before, his signing will have been worth everything. Welcome back, Brandon.
Welcome back to the running back who converted the most important 4th and 1 in Giants history. There's no "Eli Escape" or "Tyree Helmet Catch" in SB 42 if BJ doesn't get that one yard earlier in the drive.
I won't presume to know what these 2 guys currently look like
because both have lots of miles on their bodies, but I was really hoping for McGahee. He was better in his prime than Jacobs, playing very only 2 years ago, and BJac really seems to be done. But here's hoping I'm dead wrong.
Happy the big man is back! He can pass protect without a doubt and when he gets a full head of steam is a strong runner. Finally, he's a leader who bleeds big blue through and through! He didn't want to be a 49er and now he comes back to help us win another Super Bowl! He knows the offense, will protect Eli and will come back with passion and be rejuvenated, just like Aaron Ross! Not to mention he can credibly settle Wilson down and mentor the young fella so he can be the superstar we all know he can be if he can just protect the football. Love this move!
Played when they released him; waited till the Giants could claim him. (They didn't want him, but were afraid he'd get back to the Giants and make them pay).
So, welcome back big man, and linebackers there's a whole lotta hurt watin' for 'specially if you're thinking about trying to blitz Eli.
he knows the offence,
can pass block
helped bradshaw when he was a rookie,
teams need to account for him
once he gets upto steam he can be very powerful rusher
he hasnt played much so should be rested
bleeds big blue,passionate
the bad
just dont use him in short yardage he needs to be upto steam or far to easily stopped for a guy his size
he is a fullback who thinks he's joe morris type scat back
in the situation they are in they need him,i thought they should have signed him in the off season when bradshaw left
wilson will be the guy he just didnt get enough reps last year to be ready to carry the full load yet
knows the playbook, coaches and sparks the team even if he gets minimal snaps. still has lots of respect in that locker room. he will scare wilson straight.
I'd imagine he'd feel like any other player who got hit on the knee
there are posts about him getting his legs taken out...pulling hamstrings...and now getting helmets to the knees. I know it's a possibility he could get hurt...but why even think about it? If you don't like the signing because you think he's done as a runner is one thing...I don't agree with you...but I at least can respect that. But to say things like 'Let's see what happens when someone cuts him off at the knees and see how he feels.' just doesn't make much sense to me. How...or better, WHY...would he feel any different than any other player taking a shot to his knee?
Not trying to single you out alone newmike2 but I just don't understand the point of posts like yours and BB'56's above. Like someone mentioned earlier, Blackburn came back to the team LATER than Jacobs currently is in the season and was fine throughout the season and Jacobs appears to have kept himself in good shape. I couldn't be happier about this signing because it's my belief that the reason why Eli has been struggling so much is because of the lack of pass protection he's had since the beginning of last season. Bradshaw is a more than willing blocker and packs a good punch for his size but still was a small RB. Brown is OK at it but is always hurt and Wilson is disinterested in blocking at the moment. I personally think this move has the potential to have a dramatic, positive effect on the team moving forward. We'll see.
I say he gets hurt in the first three to four weeks or sucks . He likely is going to be unsuccessful. He fumbles too.we're going to trade him for a number one draft pick you guys are making me laugh
You are 100% wrong. So you would rather have Scott over Jacobs? Bringing Jacobs in isn't about the run game. It is about protecting Eli, ball security, and mentoring Wilson. And look at All the tweets, jacob's teammates love him. I think this is a great move.
and if they forget about him, he can slip into the flat and catch the short pass. He had hands of stone when he first came up, but largely solved that problem over time.
but the more I think about it, McGahee would probably have been a better choice - if the Giants had plans to feature the back they signed to some degree.
But they don't, we'll still see large doses of Wilson, so this makes more sense.
I know most our saying this is for his blocking.. which is true to some extent.. but I think he'll be a great teammate and mentor to the other running backs too.. I know that's been mentioned..
I think people don't expect him to get many touches.. but he will.. even if used in pass protection.. he'll get touches to keep teams honest.. could be a dump pass or screen.. or a few runs here and there..
also..
3rd and 2 at the goal line.. who gets the ball.. I think we'll see BJ in the game.. whether it's a play action pass or he'll still get chances to convert short yardage..
the one thing I'm sure about.. is he only wanted to be on the Giants or retire.. he bleeds Giants blue.. and he's gonna give his all.. he's gonna be playing with fire knowing this is most likely his last hurrah.. and chance to contribute to our Giants..
Was so busy I did not find out until a friend who is an Eagles fan told me last night at a back to school night.
Jacob's was done a few years ago in my unqualified estimation. He certainly brings an attitude back that the Giants lack. But I doubt he provides very much on the field other than a change of pace. Which in and of itself should be good.
I can't wait for the first comments after Jacobs dances his way along the line of scrimmage for 1 yard like he used too . . .
and get knocked the fuck out. This move is a no-brainer. When he is in the game DE's and LB's don't come at Eli very hard for an obvious reason. BJ is waiting and he will hit you. Very, very, hard.
I think in addition to 3rd down where he can block or belly out I would also use him as FB in jumbo formation blocking for DW. Hyno was scary bad the other night. A FB that whiffs on blocks gets released very quickly.
It always seems that Jacobs turns into a tip-toe burglar and runs east-west after he gets a low shot. I hope he doesn't revert to that mode when the first DB takes a crack at his knees.
This isn't personal, it's just an observation. I've advocated for getting him back because he knows the system and Eli likes him but I recognize that this is a desperation move not a luxury move.
Some of you need to shake the sand out of your vags and return to reality.
I am relaxed. I just don't see the point of your post. Nothing more. Jacobs has/had a tendency to run East/West more often than I'm sure we'd all like...but, IMO, it's never taken a shot to his knees in order for him to start running that way. It's always been my opinion that he thinks he's a lot more nimble than he really is but hopefully he'll turn that around and not do it as often.
Dont know how much he has left, but worth a shot. Knows the system, had a year to heal, out to prove something, maybe gives the Giants some tips on the Niners in case we meet in the playoffs... getting ahead of myself, but just saying
Go BIG RB! Glad to have you back!

As far as his number 27 goes I hope Stevie keeps it and is back with us next year.

And can Perry Fewell send maybe at LEAST a couple blitzes
Welcome back, big dog!

Oh.. and LOLBossman.. Reese is putting his job on the line by signing a vet RB? Can't make the kind of stupid you provide up. Just can't.

At least blitz pickup won't be a problem with him in there............and he'll probably be light on his feet due to no wear and tear recently.

Anything that helps protect #10 is a good thing.
And if it was Jacobs instead of Wilson in the game on that 2nd down play from the 1 where Eli got sacked, Eli probably throws a TD pass instead.

Hopefully he can play at near the same speed that he did in his previous stint.
Does he have two rings? I don't think he was on the SB47 team. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Hinoski did it in the past but he doesnt look ready.
If he does, I do think he brings a boost of enthusiasm and identity to the O that has been lacking.

They add some spicy brown mustard?
Oh and on Jacobs, I trust Reese so so be it
I'm hoping Giants find a role for Scott, Wilson and Jacobs going forward. Platoon the too three and adjust going forward based on performance.
Every time someone puts Catsup no a hotdog, a kitten dies.
Scott to increase lower-body strength so he doesn't go to the turf after the first touch.
