Eli's last minute pass: Was it a good throw?

what kind of hands you have in that case simply because Scott never even turned around to see that the ball was coming. You can't catch it if you don't know it's coming. It's possible that Scott was the check down or "hot" read there since there was pressure, but who knows.

like a tough catch under almost any circumstance, but because Scott wasn't turned around like apparently Collinsworth felt he should have been recognizing the blitz it became a near impossible catch and enabled the end result which was Scott gets a hand on it and tips it in the air leaving it up there for interception.

seemed communication issue and Eli confirmed this online... something like he thought Scott was going to sit there rather than go up field.

What scott should NOT have done is tried to catch a ball behind him and knock it up in the air, let it go and its incomplete.

at RBs - giving the 'stone hands' label perhaps unfairly to a few, I'm willing to put this on both of them.

He should have been composed enough to throw the ball at Scott's ankles for an incompletion and move on to the next play.

that ball should never have been thrown. that play should never have been called.

It's not something Eli does a good job with generally, risky play and bad result.

and the RB probably should have been in that spot, but that doesn't necessarily absolve Eli entirely.

Sometimes, Eli throws to a spot before the receiver makes his break, and in those situations if the receiver doesn't make the correct break and the ball is incomplete or intercepted, that's not really on Eli. But on both of those picked off screen passes, it seemed that Eli could and should have recognized that the RB wasn't in the correct spot and aborted the play instead of trying to force it.

it was a hot read and Scott did not read the blitz. Eli should have used a little touch on the ball though.

Giants started the game with a bad screen, and they ended the game with a bad screen.

I say shelve it until everyone is on the same page.

that was a speed screen and yet I think he threw it a second to early. 2 turnovers on 2 screen plays. The difference in the game.

The other 4 turnovers had a little bit to do with the outcome as well :-)

... it looks like he can get 5-8 yards. If he breaks a tackle or two (there looked to b 2 Cowboys in the vicinity) its possibly a 20 yarder.

who was only a few steps away from Eli. There was almost no chance of anything good coming out of that play. Unless of course the tip had gone to a Giant player.

Not supposed to try and make a catch ?

I spoke to my son, last night about this, his take -

Scott & Eli read a blitz, so the best option is to catch the ball behind them as the LBs fly by, resulting in a big play. The problem - the LBs backed off and Scott is left with his back to the QB.

Eli throws the ball four feet behind Scott, who reaches for the ball and tips it into the Cowboy's hands - Game over.

the post game transcripts from Scott/Eli, and still came across as blaming Eli - it's pretty clear they have an agenda.

Scott ran the wrong route, to the wrong spot, and never looked for the ball. When Eli doesnt take blame for an INT, you know something's up.

Eli checked down to it because of the blitz. Scott misread the defense, it happens, but if they're both on the same page it's a decent gain.

Then Eli calculated that to get even with Scott, he'd have just enough time to nail him in the back of the head with the football at high speed just before Scott could turn around. Eli miscalculated that Scott would be able to get a hand up to block the ball.

That's how it looked to me.

he saw a blitz but both LBs dropped back into coverage after the snap. He still threw the hot read, so to me, that's the main problem with the play. If Eli had realized that there wasn't an actual blitz, he probably wouldn't have thrown it to Scott.

I think the Cowboys were blitzing, but once Eli audibled, Sean Lee audibled out of the blitz. It was too late for Eli to get back to the original play.

Scott ran the screen the wrong way, and since Eli was on a timing play, it was screwed up from the get go.

Probably. I still think the majority of the blame goes to Eli for his decision making process. But regardless, it was a shit route and a shit throw.

between the two of them. And a ridiculously unlucky bounce - that ball caromed a long way and right to the DB. Hard to say who's fault it was if it really even matters. Although if it were Romo making that play it would be strong evidence that he's a choker.

Really, it's the kind of interception that happens all the time in football. Slight miscommunication or mis-timing or slightly inaccurate throw that takes a bounce and gets picked. I'm sure it happened at least 5 times around the league this season already, probably more. There are a variety of things that can go wrong when you throw the ball. A few of them went wrong on that play. And sometimes those things result in picks.

It's pretty clear.

Everyone involved (Eli, Scott, and Gillbride) have made reference to a sight adjustment that caused Eli to expect Scott to sit down right where he threw the ball. It's not just a timing thing. Scott is suppose to stop and turn right where the ball goes...not continue up the field. It looks like a bad throw because Eli is throwing to where he was. He starts to unload it in anticipation of Scott stopping and turning around and that's where the ball goes.

As I interpret Eli's response in that .gif.....it's almost like a Oh come on! What are you doing!?!!?" And then after the play...he gave a "Damn it. I can't believe he screwed that up!" (This is obviously just guessing...but taken with what I perceive his comments to mean...I don't think his response was frustration with himself).
