Giants were awarded running back Allen Bradford off waivers, according to a source

It says he's a RB, but I believe he made the transition to LB. Was on the Seahawks

Bradford is a linebacker..
Rsspro : 9/12/2013 5:42 pm : link
assuming wherever you read about running back was perhaps due to the constant talk about our RBs and injuries..
well he's a linebacker now at least..
Rsspro : 9/12/2013 5:43 pm : link
..
Could he be our Refrigerator Perry?

Combo defensive player and short-yardage back.
One of the things I like about bbi,
Ira : 9/12/2013 5:52 pm : link
is that there are posters who know about players like this. Wow. We may have acquired a lb who has the talent to play the position at a high level. If Connor is ready to play this weekend, I'd cut Herzlich. That experiment has not gone well.

Optimus-NY : 9/12/2013 5:52 pm : link
He only has 3 accrued years. His contract is not guaranteed for the year. He is not termination pay eligible, and he has no bonus money on his deal. He is the ideal guy to get cut when Hill returns after week 4. Cutting him and adding Hill's cap number will actually give the Giants added cap room (about $114,000 worth).

hoping NFL rosters would set and he could sneak him onto his practice squad. He has ability. Could be a diamond in the rough. One thing is certain when you watch him....he'll lay you out.

I saw him during the preseason (I don't recall which game, DEN or OAK)
Shockeyisthebest80 : 9/12/2013 6:54 pm : link
and he looked really good. I don't want to get crazy, but he could be a player.

Flashed at LB for the Eagles this preseason. I believe he was their leading tackler. A lot of folks were upset that Chip Kelly kept Casey Matthews over him, since Acho looked like the better player. He was signed to our practice squad yesterday...

Is a superior athlete and Carroll ruined his college career IMO. He was a great high school linebacker but Pete envisioned him as the next great USC tailback. Carroll didn't use him much until his senior year and even then, he was in and out of Carroll's doghouse. He's short but not small. Real good kid who will knock the snot out of you. He'll be a terrific special teamer at the very least.

Some people win a medal. Others win a statue. Some win a plaque. Others win a RB no one has ever heard of.
it would be nice to have fast, physical LB for a change

high school linebacker turned RB at USC because they were stacked

at LBers during the cushing/rey/matthews years.

Apparently had a very good preseason but was caught in a numbers game.
I like this move.

Reese has made some key waiver claims in the past in Hixon, Boothe, Hedgecock, Tollefson, and Pascoe.

on the Internet have a lot of good things to say about Bradford. They say he had a great preseason. A gifted but raw player.

and he can block
thanks Scott; I missed that signing
Spock : 9/12/2013 9:57 pm : link
I read the article you linked and it was ambivalent. It makes the point that no other team wanted him for a whole week and in fact, the only team who wanted him didn't want him THAT badly because he is not on the 53.

The truth is, or so it seems - if you can't make the Giants roster playing LB, you can't be very good.

As always, I hope the guy ends up being a stud, but how many times have I wished that, only to be denied my desires?
GMenLTS
Marty866b : 9/12/2013 10:21 pm : link
No, Bradford wasn't moved because of the Rey, Cushing years. Bradford came a bit later and Carroll thought he would be a great runner.
is it possible that
Blue Baller : 9/12/2013 10:54 pm : link
he could be a two way back up?

Look on the bright side
Blueballz : 9/13/2013 12:34 am : link
our LBs sucked horribly. Some waiver wire castoff really cannot be much worse.
Wait
Fish : 9/13/2013 12:40 am : link
Is he here as a lb or rb?
we need to sign
SHO'NUFF : 9/13/2013 12:50 am : link
Dontay Moch off of Arizona's practice squad.
Sabino or Moch
superdamo : 9/13/2013 6:47 am : link
i wonder what made them go Bradford over Sabino who already been in the system or Dontay Moch who probably has the most potential. From what i read on Bradford he is a RB/LBER who isnt that good of LBER but is pretty good on special teams. Moch has been on the injury bug in Cincy
When you make this signing
nyynyg : 9/13/2013 7:18 am : link
And most here think it is an upgrade and want the guy to get time on the field compared to current alternatives, you know we have a problem.
"awarded" means he's on the 53
aquidneck : 9/13/2013 7:22 am : link
Gonna be active too. Will play ST if nothing else.

Giants still have only 5 LB. Really worried about Herzlich. If Bradford is any good he'll be starting by week 3.
My brother is a Seahawks fan

he was talking about this guy in PS so I checked him out - he really did look very good. I'm pretty excited about this pickup. Hope he gets up to speed quickly.
Don't see why they didn't give Acho a shot
jeff57 : 9/13/2013 8:17 am : link
He also looked very good in the preseason, and Eagle fans couldn't believe when Kelly cut him in favor of keeping his college player Casey Matthews.
I have faith in the Giants, but at LB
nyynyg : 9/13/2013 8:39 am : link
I have to say that is the one position on the field that I really question...a lot. I still think we have a roster of guys that wouldn't make anyone else's.
If nothing else, he'll be good for special teams
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/13/2013 9:17 am : link

I know Gettlmen was the Pro guy, it's obvious the veterans that have been added this off season are not of the same quality as in the past. Players picked up from other rosters have not performed up to the task that Gettlemen additions did.
I've seen worse waiver pickups
islander1 : 9/13/2013 1:54 pm : link
and as others have said, our LBs are half waiver wire quality anyway, so going with a gamble on someone with physical tools isn't the worst idea.

Bradford came to USC one year after Cushing, Rey, Maiava, and Luthur Brown (who ended up basically retiring due to back issues). He was absolutely moved in part because there was stacked talent at LB and he wasn't a safety (where he was tried as a freshman). He then moved to fullback, where he caught a TD pass in his first start on a wheel route.

Pete eventually gave AB the opportunity to play RB and he took it.

2013 Free Agents Signed from Other Teams:

PK Josh Brown (Signed from Bengals; 1-Year, $940,000 salary)
S Ryan Mundy (Signed from Steelers; 1-Year, $715,000 salary)
WR Louis Murphy (Signed from Panthers; 1-Year, $715,000 salary)
TE Brandon Myers (Signed from Raiders; 4-Years, $14.25 million)

Players Signed After Being Cut by Another Team:

DT Cullen Jenkins (Signed by Giants; 3-Years, $8 million)
CB Aaron Ross (Signed by Giants; 1-Year, $715,000 salary)
LB Dan Connor (Signed by Giants; 1-Year, $715,000 salary)
DT Mike Patterson (Signed by Giants; 1-Year, $905,000)

I see nothing wrong with this list. I definitely don't feel that it's a drop-off from prior years based on the cap room the Giants had to work with.
