I don't think it's out of the question that we could have maneuvered and found some money to make that kind of room. Considering the pile of shit that we've had at LB, it'd been nice to pony up and bring in a guy like him.
Days like today get me all pissed off again that we took Jernigan one pick ahead of Tampa taking Mason Foster in 2011, as if his 8 tackles and 2 sacks against the Jets on Sunday wasn't enough.
you're probably right they can always make it work if they really want to, just looking back though he did sign for 3 times as much as the LB they signed, and I think most people feel Dansby is better than Connor, so if it wasn't cash hard to explain.
I can't believe Dansby would opt for Arizona over the Giants, but he picked Miami over the Giants, so who knows, maybe he just doesn't want to play here (despite what his father may have claimed)
It's been a serious problem before, like in 2009 when they took a QB and two CBs who never even made the team instead of getting the Safety they desperately needed. So they were signing Safeties off the streets by mid-season. I won't even mention the H-Back/TE who didn't fit any need they had that year.
Or 2010 when they took a punter that - naw I don't even want to go there.....
And it's still a problem. Nassib cost them a 4th and a 6th that could have been used on badly needed OL and LB help. At least they would have had a couple more warm bodies instead of a uniform on the bench who will probably never play a meaningful down for them and won't be flipped for anything because he won't have a chance to play.
But Dansby only got slightly over 2M for 1 year. I have a hard time believing we couldn't free up ~1.5M somehow. Especially for a superior player who doesn't miss many games.
Oh well. For whatever reason it didn't happen. Sucks for us.
Is that what we'd save if we cut him outright? Diehl's $1m plus the vet minimum we're paying Connor might have helped us cross the finish line with Dansby.
Atlanta police station and pleaded guilty to child abuse. Seems very likely that the Giants cut him over that.
Some say that his play fell off badly last year. Maybe so, although I didn't notice it. He played in every game, had his usual number of tackles along with three picks. He was better than any other LB we had on the roster.
Anyway, there is no chance the Giants bring him back. Bengals worked him out a few days ago but apparently nothing came of it.

At LB, our starters would be backups on a lot of other teams. Our backups would not play on other teams. We seem to be giving Reese a pass since 2007 because he had a nice draft that year?
Can someone please explain "In Reese we trust"? Where does all of this trust come from?
Hate the play. Watching the Cowboys taps of him on Game Rewind was just plain ugly.
Oddly, a lot of it really does seem to be mental with him - he plays like a spaz (and not in a good way). Couple that with not being extremely athletic and it's not the best combination.
Giants' really screwed up when their first actions after last
season ended was to cut Boley and Blackburn (although Boley might have been cut because of pleading guilty to child abuse). They are both better than what we have now.
Blackburn not the big run-stuffing hulk you look for at MLB, but maybe that not so important with the defensive tackles we added.
Chase was smart and had a nose for the ball. It would probably surprise a lot of people to hear that in 2012 he led the Giants in total tackles, had one interception and five forced fumbles.
two are not enough. You have to ask yourself what more this team could have done if we managed the personnel better. If our O-line has not been this bad for the past 4 years. If we had Linebackers that were legit starters. Maybe we would have never missed the playoffs since 2007 and possibly won another title.
You can feel satisfied if you want. I dont...i want more
Maybe being out of the league could change his mind, but I'd be surprised.
Someone would have needed to be cut to make that happen.
