This is not a must win.
Boy Cord : 9/15/2013 10:45 am : link
It's a non-conference game, for one. Actually, the Giants could start the season 0-6 and still control their own destiny. I may just DVR the game and watch it later.

/sarcasm

The Giants missed the memo that the season started last week. I'm feeling good about this one.

I feel strangely confident. I will be mildly surprised if we lose.
Somebody better check that silly countdown clock on the wall
UberAlias : 9/15/2013 11:04 am : link
I think it might have stopped half way through the second week of training camp. Hopefully they had somebody in to fix it this week.

the last year or so I've been listening to Papa on the radio and then watched the game after his broadcast..I can better put up with the TV announcers much better..:)
If there is still one monkey on Eli's back its beating Peyton.
j_rud : 9/15/2013 11:14 am : link
You can't like this back seven against the Bronco offense but if the DL shows up maybe they can hold it together.

I also think David Wilson puts on a show.
Coughlin's Giants have lost in Week 2 only twice:
Big Blue Blogger : 9/15/2013 11:18 am : link
2007 to Favre and the Packers, and 2010 to... uh oh.
Fatso says that he believes that the Giants should be able to beat
Reese's Pieces : 9/15/2013 11:20 am : link
any team in the league playing in their home stadium.

Fatso praises to heaven the running ability of David Wilson, but the Giants expected him to go right in and play this year and are disappointed in his fumble and blocking performance.

Nothing very newsworthy, but a lot of non-Giant fans really think Wilson is special. I'm still waiting to see it over the course of a whole game.
I would love some of the kool aid
BigBlue779 : 9/15/2013 11:26 am : link
You guys had with your coffee. We have gaping holes in the d.
You do realize we have Aaron Ross and Hosely covering Welker and decker and herzlich covering the big te.

Ill be rooting my ass off but you guys are nuts if you "expect" to win.

I mean come on things are so bad we brought back the tip toe bandit.

I think this is a laugher early. 38-13 or something like that and that's only when they take their foot off of the gas in the 4th
It's going to be a close, high scoring game
Buck Dharma : 9/15/2013 11:38 am : link

JonC : 9/15/2013 11:54 am : link
Don't believe we'll fare particularly well through the air versus Peyton, but expect a big performance from Eli and the offense.
This is one of those games where no one gives the Giants
Reese's Pieces : 9/15/2013 11:55 am : link
any respect and they rise up and crush the other team (Niners, Packers in 2012)

Of course last week's game was also one of those games.
Bet the farm on the Giants...
M.S. : 9/15/2013 11:55 am : link
...they win in a laugh-er this afternoon!

31-10.
Have to pressure Peyton on defense
oipolloi : 9/15/2013 11:56 am : link
and have an aggressive aerial attack on offense. Stick with the run but throw on first down 60% of the time.

I know with 10000% accuracy
I Love Clams Casino : 9/15/2013 11:58 am : link
That the Giants will win this game. I am not one bit nervous. It's like I can see the future and know the outcome already. It's just a matter of rewinding the game and watching the Giants win.
Not particularly impressed with
section125 : 9/15/2013 12:07 pm : link
Decker or Thomas. Avg NFL receivers. Peyton is everything, just like Brady.
Our receivers are better, period.

Any kind of pressure and the Giants win, if they don't turn the ball over 6 times.....
Thomas is an average WR
chris r : 9/15/2013 12:10 pm : link
?
Denver
stretch234 : 9/15/2013 12:11 pm : link
The Giants have faced Welker before, with another good QB and seemed to fare OK.

Who the hell does Denver have to cover any of the Giants WR. There D has worse personnel than Dallas, at every level of the D

The Giants offense is the only thing that can keep then from winning. They settle for FG they will lose
If Thomas is an average WR, then the league is 49% Calvin
Riggies : 9/15/2013 12:15 pm : link
Johnsons.
I am betting $10,000.00 on the Giants to win.
wgenesis123 : 9/15/2013 12:16 pm : link
Monopoly money. Don't have a farm.
To me, yeah Thomas is average.
section125 : 9/15/2013 12:21 pm : link
Average is not a bad thing. Is he as good as Nicks or Cruz?

The key is Peyton, not the receivers. Make Peyton uncomfortable and the Giants win. Dez Bryant was well covered last week and Austin was reasonably well covered. Do that well this week, without the TOs and I like the chances.
I expect a
Rick5 : 9/15/2013 12:25 pm : link
win. I really think Jacobs is going to play a fair amount and be a key force in the blocking department on passing downs. We'll find out soon enough.
If he's healthy and Tebow isn't throwing him the ball, absolutely.
Riggies : 9/15/2013 12:29 pm : link
And, while I'm not saying I would, you'll find a lot of people (fan and analysts) and statistics that would take him over both of them.

Claiming he's only some product of Peyton that's only average otherwise is as much horse shit as when folks would regularly claim Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison were only good WRs because of him. He's a very good WR, with some fantastic physical tools that he finally was able to show off last year, after being unhealthy as a rookie and then saddled with a sub-replacement player at QB.
The Giants def played very well last week against superior receivers
SB : 9/15/2013 12:32 pm : link
...LBs played well, I thought, because the DTs were able to get solid push (funny how an interior rush can make LBs look good...), and our DBs played very well. Austin and Witten had good statistical games, but really didn't have an impact on the game, IMO. Let's face it, if the Giants had "only" four TOs, they would have won. Easily.

The only offensive player on Denver that is better than the Dallas equivalent is Peyton, and IMO the Giants DBs match up well with the type of QB Peyton is now, short, timing-based passes. Solid press CB play coupled with a decent push up the middle should limit Peyton's ability for big plays.
Take an average NFL receiver
section125 : 9/15/2013 12:49 pm : link
and place him with one of the best QBs in the history of the game and he becomes a weapon. Take an average NFL receiver and place him with a below average QB and he looks mundane.

Marvin Harrison was a very good receiver as is Reggie Wayne. Peyton made them better.

Wes Welker did how well in Miami compared with Brady and now Manning? How would he do with Mark Sanchez?

Not saying Thomas is bad and with Manning he becomes a weapon.
And they made/make Peyton better too, though I know it's a sin to
Riggies : 9/15/2013 1:07 pm : link
suggest such a thing.

There's extreme cases like Fitzgerald being held back in Arizona in recent seasons r or maybe a McNabb in Philadelphia sans TO, but, in general, there's usually a mutually beneficial relationship between good WRs and good QBs and it's not a slight to a QB or a WR to recognize it.

Look at what Tom Brady is going through right now, look at what he was with Moss/Welker or Welker/Gronk/Hernandez at the peak of their ability, and look at what he was before them. Was Jerry Rice less of a WR because he benefitted from Montana and Young throwing him the ball? Of course not.

Nicks and Cruz aren't products of Eli, but they damn well benefit from him as their QB, the same way he benefits from them as his WRs (when they're healthy -- no one except the opposition was benefitting from Nicks for about half of last season).

And you're not saying Thomas is bad, you'r saying he's average, which isn't any more accurate. No one who actually watched him play last year or even last week should come to that conclusion, even if the QB throwing him the ball is Peyton Manning.

Lets Bennett go and keeps over the hill players who haven't gotten it done in two years. Letting young stars go isn't the way to go. Kudos to them for signing him but to let him go was a huge error.

about Manning killing us with crossing routes to Welker, and passes down the seam to his TE against our LBs. Maybe that's we only have four LBs active today.
