SoZKillA : 9/15/2013 12:26 pm
@ProFootballTalk: Giants will kick tires on Kerry Rhodes on Tuesday
And what will they pay him

Gay references in 5-4-3-2
capone : 9/15/2013 12:28 pm : link
I would hope
ShocknAwe80 : 9/15/2013 12:30 pm : link
that our community is more mature than to make gay jokes about an athlete who came out.
We need a FS and Rhodes makes plays
JonC : 9/15/2013 12:31 pm : link
but I trust the Giants will be careful with making a move on him, knowing the drama that follows him.
Sounds like he's dropped his price.
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/15/2013 12:31 pm : link
I am so proud to be a fan if this team
ligmen : 9/15/2013 12:31 pm : link
Herzlich, not giving up on Thomas and not being closed minded while 31 other teams are. We really are the elite class of the nfl.
If he can help the team for a fair price
SoDev : 9/15/2013 12:34 pm : link
I'm all in.
He could be a big help. If we sign him, it will take a few weeks
Ira : 9/15/2013 12:35 pm : link
for him to get up to speed. But with him, Will Hill, Antrelle Rolle and Mundy, safety could be a very strong unit.
doesn't necessarily means they will sign him
Matt in SGS : 9/15/2013 12:37 pm : link
but Reese is doing his due diligence to be sure that they have options lined up in case of another injury back there. Rolle hurt is groin this week and who knows if that becomes an issue which could cause him to miss time at some point. The Giants have Taylor back there, but he's not ready for prime time at all. They don't have Hill back until Week 5. If they need a veteran to slot in there quickly, Rhodes would make sense.
chris r : 9/15/2013 12:39 pm : link
If they sign him
Steve in South Jersey : 9/15/2013 12:40 pm : link
I just don't want to hear about his personal life and choices. All I care about is football.
They're very thin at his position, so if he can still play at a decent
Riggies : 9/15/2013 12:41 pm : link
level (which is what I doubt), who really cares about his "drama?"

If anything, he was a victim and possibly outed against his wishes and if teams are holding that against them, that speaks incredibly low for them, not him.
Jon in NYC : 9/15/2013 12:41 pm : link
Rolle and Rhodes share a defensive backfield in Arizona? If so, I'm sure JR has all the info he needs about Rhodes in the locker room.
*against him, not against them
Riggies : 9/15/2013 12:41 pm : link
Ha ha personal life
Hunter : 9/15/2013 12:41 pm : link
Like that matters to the NYG at this point. How about actual bodies on the field to have 11 starters?

Yeah - that's a tad more important
Give that man a job.
wgenesis123 : 9/15/2013 12:42 pm : link
JonC : 9/15/2013 12:44 pm : link
Some teams, and the Giants are one of them, pay a significant amount of attention to a player's character, the company they keep, the drama that tends to follow them, because they're working to keep the locker room solid.

Some care, some don't, it is what it is.
It's about time...
Chris in Philly : 9/15/2013 12:45 pm : link
and I'm not referring to his sexuality
JonC : 9/15/2013 12:46 pm : link
but rather the consistent talk that he was more interested in farming opportunities away from football than he was in playing football, and the talk of consistently inconsistent preparation and focus, etc.
Not that it matters
Emil : 9/15/2013 12:47 pm : link
Completely ok with the tryout and hopeful signing, but I don't think Rhodes has "come out." I think all the hubbub was caused by an article on deadspin, not because of any big announcement by Rhodes. Regardless, the guy is a veteran players, who hits like a ton of bricks, has played with Rolle, and would be a nice presence on the field who comes cheap.
I like this.
Big Blue '56 : 9/15/2013 12:48 pm : link
He does have talent. We'll see if the Giants agree
Don't care if he's gayer than a million rainbows
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/15/2013 12:50 pm : link
if he can do this
he isn't good enough
giantranger : 9/15/2013 12:50 pm : link
or else he'd be on a roster already as a back-up at least. He won't make the team.
How was he outed?
Matt M. : 9/15/2013 12:51 pm : link
I guess I missed that. I don't care one but if he can still play. if 31 other teams pass on a good safety because of that, that's their problem.
he didnt come out
NoPeanutz : 9/15/2013 12:52 pm : link
rumors surfaced bc the blogosphere picked up on shirtless pics of him shirtlessly frolicking with other shirtless dudes not at an a NFL facility, and having male companions or something.
The Dude : 9/15/2013 12:52 pm : link
that theres anything wrong with it
Those pictures are really convincing.
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/15/2013 12:55 pm : link
But it really shouldn't matter. I'm of the opinion that he is gay.
He's still a pretty good football player.
arcarsenal : 9/15/2013 12:59 pm : link
It's just that he's, you know...
AcidTest : 9/15/2013 1:03 pm : link
with JonC. The question is not whether he's gay, although that could be true for some teams. The question is his motivation.
Circumstances cause players to become introspective(many times
Big Blue '56 : 9/15/2013 1:23 pm : link

It would appear that Ross' exile in Jax(his choice) has certainly turned him in to quite the determined player-at least as of now..

Rhodes' non-signing "exile" might very well do the same..

Stay tuned
I don't care if his sexual proclivities
endwerc : 9/15/2013 1:25 pm : link
include box turtles, if he can play safety sign him up.
I take this as proof positive not only that Reese reads BBI...
BlueLou : 9/15/2013 1:27 pm : link
but that he actually listened to the NTTAWWT crowd. ;-)
The Geigh Safety Mafia?

Oh c'mon.
Overseer : 9/15/2013 2:14 pm : link
Who among us hasn't frolicked daintily around with other shirtless men...our hot, sweaty bodies glinting in the pentrating afternoon sun.

I say welcome aboard Kerry. This team needs players that can really carry a heavy load on their back.
If Rhodes signs here
Anakim : 9/15/2013 2:23 pm : link
BBI is going to have a bigger field day with the geigh jokes than the Pugh arms jokes
what is the source of
santacruzom : 9/15/2013 2:34 pm : link
these rumors? I never heard anything about Rhodes' sexuality being "questioned" until now.

The Giants shouldn't care if he's gayer than a Bruno Mars song... well wait, that's going too far. But if he's just gayer than the Top Gun volleyball scene it shouldn't matter.
Yes ligmen, that must be it.
Curtis in VA : 9/15/2013 2:35 pm : link
All 31 other teams are closeminded. Has nothing to do with Kerry asking for too much or acting like a reality TV diva.
Anakim : 9/15/2013 2:37 pm : link
Google it
I heard he's interested in the Giants' Cox
chris r : 9/15/2013 2:37 pm : link
Wasn't Rhodes
Big Rick in FL : 9/15/2013 2:41 pm : link
Rated as a top 5 Safety on PFF last year? I could care less if he likes pussy, dick or both. If he can cover the deep pass and force turnovers I would be more then happy with him.
Anakim : 9/15/2013 2:43 pm : link
Indeed he was
If He signs
Bleedin Blue : 9/15/2013 2:48 pm : link
These two guys will be 2 of the biggest Giants Fans!!!!!

the source is his alleged ex lover

the pictures out there are pretty convincing.
This season just keeps getting more interesting

Cart before the horse
pganut : 9/15/2013 3:17 pm : link
But if we sign him, this is the ideal franchise to have a gay player. This team has maturity and a coaching staff and ownership that would create/foster a nurturing environment based in merit, not sexual preference. If he still has football talent, I'm all for bringing him in.
Not one cox joke worked in anywhere?
Jon from PA : 9/15/2013 3:40 pm : link
Well I doubt he could play any gayer
BlueLou : 9/15/2013 6:05 pm : link
than Brandon Myers has this first half...
this is place is gonna be good, real good
Neverend : 9/15/2013 6:07 pm : link
if he signs
Also, bear in mind that Will Hill is coming back from suspension in a
Anakim : 9/15/2013 7:11 pm : link
couple of weeks
We do not need safeties
hudson : 9/16/2013 11:03 am : link
We need linebackers.
Or an extra safety
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/16/2013 11:16 am : link
So that we can play 4-2-5.

Using rolle in the front like a fake LB is probably a better option than giving Herzlich ANY playing time at all.
Stu : 9/16/2013 11:17 am : link
They should go to a 4-7 alignment
jeff57 : 9/16/2013 11:21 am : link
once Hill and Rhodes are there. Play 6 DBs, 2 corners and 4 safties, Rolle, Mundy, Hill and Rhodes. On passing downs, replace two of the safties with Thomas and Hosley.

They have clearly shown they have no use for LBs anyway.
another safety? sure why not
GMAN4LIFE : 9/16/2013 12:13 pm : link
have the new safety cover the TE...
