One of the areas I am most disappointed in is the DL
Matt M. : 9/15/2013 8:47 pm : link
Each of the last few years they have had, on paper, one of the best DLs in football. This year they even loaded up on DTs. Yet, they get no rush and get shoved around in the second half.
I feel so bad for Eli
SHO'NUFF : 9/15/2013 8:49 pm : link
every time he plays his brother, our team shits the bed.
I've actually been encouraged
jrthomps2006 : 9/15/2013 8:50 pm : link
...by the defense. I felt they were really flying around today and Terrell Thomas looked great. I think it's unrealistic to think that you were gonna completely shut down Peyton & Co. I felt they kept him in check today. When I think of the Dallas game, I really feel like they only let in about two scores (2 DEF tds, 2 drives starting on the 15).

The offense is much more worrisome to me... especially in the red zone. We are consistently bad year in and year out which leads you back to coaching. We quite possibly have the least innovative playcalling inside the 20 that has ever existed. That series where we had 58 shots from the 5 was comical.

Refuse to bail on the season just yet - this team has shown flashes. Carolina next week will be a battle of two desperate teams.

Maybe I have mellowed a

bit in middle age, but I am really not all that worried yet. We are only 2 games into this thing. There is plenty of football left and two other teams in the division are 0-2. With parity, I can absolutely still see the Giants finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or last in the division. Time will tell.

Eli shit the bed too. The guy had a couple of good throws and a lot of bad ones.
After speaking with my Dad I agree

this team doesnt have the talent it thinks it has.. and the talent it does have it doesnt utilize well..

There needs to be a shake up on this team.. and its not just the players..

And the Cowboys are 25-29 in their last 54 regular season games. Don't have a winning season since 2009

The Eagles are 13-23 in their last 36 regular season games, 5-13 the last two years

Given the changes with the Skins it would be kind of irrelevant to list their horrible record over a similar lengthy sample size, but this is a franchise whose last 5 seasons can essentially be boiled down to a good month and a half at the end of last year. 0-2 coming into a year with expectations which is something they've not dealt with in years

Someone has to win the division
Lots of gloating out here
Pete in CO : 9/15/2013 8:55 pm : link
And I must admit, rightfully so. The Broncos will win despite Von Miller's absence. It would be nice if the NYG were in as weak a division as the Broncos, but what can you do. Giants are a mediocre team, with too many holes.
One thing that doesn't seem to change is the predictability of the Giants' offense. As has been already said here, if the running game is predictable or weak, the passing game will suffer. That's why Eli has 7 picks already. Don't see that improving without better offensive balance.
Wow

Sorry, I expected some whining but this thread is pathetic. I don't comment often like this but JHC, man the hell up.

I think they have the talent. They are playing inconsistently.
people need to relax
GiantsFan84 : 9/15/2013 8:57 pm : link
the talent is there for this team. the players need to play better. eli has got to stop being a turnover machine and play better. myers can't fall down for no reason and he and the other receivers need to stop dropping catchable passes. this team has the talent to compete even though there are significant weaknesses on the team
Matt
MarshallOnMontana : 9/15/2013 8:58 pm : link
Im talking about the Skins, not the Giants

And the Giants do have internal expectations regardless of what the media consensus is
For me, the turning point in the game was the INT before the half.
Matt M. : 9/15/2013 8:59 pm : link
Re-watching the replays over and over, I think it was a bad call and even worse execution. Even if Nicks and Eli are on the same page and Nicks looks for the ball outside, he was still double covered with a 3rd DB coming over for help. It was not likely to be completed. So either it was not the right call for that D, it was not the right reads, a combo, whatever. The ball should have been thrown away.
It's
AcidTest : 9/15/2013 9:00 pm : link
not that complicated. You don't win if you don't control the LOS.

Last year, we couldn't control the LOS on the defensive side. So we loaded up on DL in FA and the draft. This year we can't control the LOS from the offensive side. The interior OL is as bad as the interior DL was last year.

But the only change that is coming is the reinsertion of Diehl. If Snee is benched, it won't be for Brewer, it will be for Diehl.
Talent=Cowboys=losing
dcgiantsfan : 9/15/2013 9:01 pm : link
The DEs were invisible today. And thats our bread and butter on D.
There is no team in the NFL without a unit or two that is a weak spot
Giantfan in skinland : 9/15/2013 9:02 pm : link
Good coaches figure out a way to work around it. Ours have in the past. Lately, it just feels to me like our staff is too stubborn to abandon what isn't working. This offense needs to be refreshed. If the staff is unwilling to do it...time for a new staff.

GMenLTS : 9/15/2013 9:03 pm : link

For fuck's sake.
This team is NOT "talented"...
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 9/15/2013 9:04 pm : link
there is talent in a couple of areas. However, much of the talent other positions over-rated.

QB, WRs, P, K, and one safety are talented. Maybe one CB. Please tell me where the rest of the talent is? Ok Wilson is talented but unfortunately cannot display his talent due to the O-line. If you want to say the D line is talented...then when will they play that way? Not playing to potential on a consistent basis = over rated. Our leading sack producer last year had only about 6 or 7 all season. Our CB's for the most part are not doing the job.

The truth is, when your team has as many holes as areas that are solid, then you cannot call the team "talented".
A few thoughts:
Victor in CT : 9/15/2013 9:04 pm : link
1) Snee has had it unfortunately.
2) Baas is a never was. He stinks.
3) Myers sucks big blue balls. He is a garbage time stat compiler. Tripped by the turf, dropping a sure 1st down, can't block at all. Those early screw ups changed the game.
4) Again, the D wasn't bad early, they worn down.
dcgiantsdan....
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 9/15/2013 9:06 pm : link
your comment about our D line being our bread and butter is exactly my point. This unrealistic perception that we have a dominant D line. We have been run over for the past couple of seasons in the run game and have not been getting consistent pressure on the QB.
I said it several times over the past year
old man : 9/15/2013 9:12 pm : link
on BBI, and for the last several years: the team seems to be falling further and further behind the rest of the NFL re: our team speed. Our receivers get no respect(yards played off by the DBs)because they don't get off the line quick enough to earn it; our DBs/CBs give tons of it because they can't play man on opponents receivers, our LBs such as they are can not keep up w/TEs, or get to sidelines to get busted up circus dog Moreno on 2 end runs for TDs, and unless Weatherford kicks it 50 yards high our STs cant get to returner to force fair catches. Add that to this years lack of push by the front 4, and lack of push by the 'O' front 5, a QB that has no confidence in the OL and forces throws because he 'feels' the pressure, plus the self inflicted wounds, and it sits at 0-2 in need of a miracle. Very disappointed that FO and coaching staff did not address/chose to recognize. In todays game, speed covers a multitude of sins, power can deflect many as well.
And I know you must execute the plays given, but it helps to
make the playbook fit the specialties/skills of the players.
We could be looking at top 10 2014 draft picks.
Rooting for the miracle!
Eli is his own worst enemy.
section125 : 9/15/2013 9:20 pm : link
He just cannot avoid forcing it deep instead of getting the 1st down or the safe open play. The stupid pass before the half to lose the chance at the FG was just a reminder of the Eagles game last year. Cruz was open at the 12. That was a huge mistake, maybe a game changer.

The run blocking sucks, but the pass blocking is generally very good. While talent makes some difference, this is scheme and instruction failure.

The Red Zone offense is inept. This is a passing team. Why do they stop throwing down there and when they do the selection is awful.

Eli was just inept today. Did I say that yet.

Little things hurt this team too. Nicks dropping a third down pass and dislocating his finger while doing so.

Both Paysinger and Williams made the same mistake allowing Moreno to turn the corner and get TDs. This late in your football career you should know that you have to get to the corner and turn it back. If either of those two had done their job Moreno gets 2 yds because he's turned back into the pursuit.
Other than that I thought the defense was pretty good against Peyton.

Just a terrible job by the coaching staff at this point.

Gilbride does not help the oline or Eli out. Adjustments need to be made to account for shortfalls in talent and he continues with the same offensive philosophy. On defense, we can't seem to get enough pressure on the QB anymore, so why doesn't Fewell come up with ome exotic blitzes to help?! Stubborness or ignorance?
Not only did we play awful..

Bad enough you have Ints due to miscommunications by the DB, but he compounded it with reckless, needless bombs into triple coverage. There was no need for that whatsoever and I have no idea what he was doing.

It drives me crazy that they don't use Wilson. If we're going to lose in the 4th, why isn't he in the game to gain experience, etc.? Also, to have a running game you have to actually run the ball with plays other then shotgun draws and the like.

What a frustrating game - actually, pair of games. Simply maddening. They should have been up at halftime, and then just came out after the half and was a disaster. It sound so silly, but they have to score touchdowns. MInd-numbing.
7-9 Would Be a Gift

OL blows. RBs blow. DEs blow. LBs blow. Reese cannot live long enough to make up for this mess of a team and its contracts. Clean house. Rescue the franchise. Will take years. Sorry about that.

But I acknowledge that I do through these phases when things go badly. Sometimes there are favorable surprises. I just don't think there will be one this year.
The Giants Need
mrvax : 9/15/2013 11:06 pm : link
to keep the defense fired up and understand their assignments well. The D has to get home more often with the front four.

Eli need to make better decisions.
Oline needs MAX AMOUNT OF PRACTICE time together. Know your assignments! Know the guy next to you his assignments.

Ball security. Randle needs a lesson on that.

This is fixable and fun. The Giants will close out the year with a nice winning streak.

sjh50 : 9/15/2013 11:07 pm : link
And thought was bad, but not the sky is falling down bad that people are writing about here. Perhaps I should have known better than to think that BBI would be rational.

The comment I personally feel most akin to is
"We're cutting our nose to spite our face." It was very simple to see that a) Jacobs will have emotional appeal but no burst and b) Scott has absolutely no business touching a regular season game field. Yet,play in and play out, Coughlin kept putting them in over Wilson. Did Wilson fuck up last week; yes. But really? Does he put your QB and team in as much harm as not having a resemblance of running and forcing your QB to be down and therefore playing from behind and throwing the entire game? I do not think so.

I love Coughlin but this is just thick-headed. The o-line hasn't played together yet this year - did they suck tonight; absolutely. But they will get better. The DT's are playing awesome - the DE's will get there. The WR's are playing well, and honestly, I think Eli is as well.

I still have faith; but I believe this team needs to come together behind Wilson. When Coughlin lost his faith in him today, it honestly felt like the whole team lost faith in themselves. As Wilson goes, I believe this team goes. Others may and will disagree; but that's what I'm going all in on.
didn't matter who was the back
lalalalala : 9/15/2013 11:13 pm : link

they refused to run under center. outside the 5 they probably did it twice.

they have zero confidence in the running game, Wilson or no Wilson. they're a trainwreck right now. I don't know how they can play remotely efficient without running under center.

Watching Seattle vs SF now
Ralph.C : 9/15/2013 11:15 pm : link
Younger, faster and stronger line play.

Don't think we can fix that.

and I'm sure it's been brought up
lalalalala : 9/15/2013 11:20 pm : link

Randle left 4 on the board and Eli left 3 on the board in the first half, but Ball left an easy 7 on the table. so while they played an okay half... defensively at least, they really didn't deserve better than they got.

the thing that bothers me is that what looked like one of their worst units, the secondary, is one of their most "reliable".
The secondary shut down dallas
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/15/2013 11:39 pm : link
We should have won that game.

Today the secondary kept this from being a wire-to-wire blowout.

There's no problem with the secondary if you give them a lead to defend. They can't carry the team by itself. They're not that good.
Limiting Welker to just 3 catches
mrvax : 9/15/2013 11:51 pm : link
for 39 yards is a really nice accomplishment.

The Oline did open a hole on one running play. Jacobs found it and ripped off a nice 5 yard gain.
they also stopped Dez cold
lalalalala : 9/15/2013 11:55 pm : link

had problems with Austin in the slot but that's a big mismatch. really that's the only unit that's overperforming.

LB's have been decent in coverage too. but if you're going to lose in the trenches to the point you have no push defensively and can't line up under center offensively, you're screwed.
lets not overreact or anything
CGiants07 : 9/16/2013 12:22 am : link
the de's get a pass today on getting to Peyton since he hardly allows people to get to him unless there are blitzers.

Todays game was lost in the 1st half on offense when we left 12 points on the board against this bronco team we needed to score td's to win.

Interior Oline is a problem but its not our biggest, or next biggest, problem which is coughlin being stubborn with Wilson as he needs to get the bulk of the carries(15-20) as he is the only back who can make people miss.

Our 2nd problem is getting JPP back to 2011 form as our defense rellies on elite pass rushing and he is the only way getting in the rotation who does that or has done it in the past. Damonster not getting many/any reps at de is not a surprise given that this was his 1st action in a month.

The two areas I am actually happy with are our wide outs and secondary which are playing well and obviously the strength of the team currently.

Linebacker isn't very good and I think 1 play somes up the entire unit: when the wide out(I think Thomas) fumbled and the ball went right to herzlich where he couldn't recover and then broncos did and went on to score the clinching td.

Eli needs to protect the ball good teams don't have 7 interceptions in 2 games. I understand the OL sucks at run blocking but pass blocking they were alright most of the time. The fluke interception is a complete anomaly though.

Now I will admit I was very pissed after the game, not that we lost but how we lost, but after doing a workout for 45 minutes I came to 1 conclusion the sky isn't falling there are just a few storm clouds that dumped on us the last 2 weeks. I see sunny skies coming next week in Carolina as there defense is horrible and cam newton is holding onto the ball forever so our de's should be able to cause some disruption. The division leader is 1-1 so we are just 1 game back and it looks like 9-10 wins will be enough to win the division and looking at our schedule the next 7 games are much more winnable than the opening 2 games so hopefully they turn it around
Coughlin Strategy
MauiYankee : 9/16/2013 12:39 am : link
Wow

Coughlin's gottem playing November football ALREADY!!!

Ellie Mae is totally the Sanchise!!
Is anyone really that bummed?
giantgiantfan : 9/16/2013 12:45 am : link
Did anyone think we would really win before the game today? For me that was a much easier loss to deal with than last weeks. Now I'm watching a Seahawks team that looks unstoppable on defense and seeing that the Giants aren't in their league. Just accept it folks, we got 2 superbowls out of Eli, we might get another, but its not looking likely at this point.
is it me, or do they always lose when they have special ceremonies?
dvb : 9/16/2013 9:04 am : link
i could be wrong, but iirc, they lost when they retired Simms and LTs numbers. They lost when they had the ring of honor ceremony and last night was Parcells special night. Is it a coincidence? Maybe, but I hope we don't have any more "special" ceremonies for a long time.
