Great point.I just don't see the intensity and hard hitting that we see from our opponents. I would love to see Fewell replaced. I find it hard to believe that we can't blitz or run some stunts that can actually put some pressure on the qb. With the rules the way they are you just cannot sit back in coverage.EVERYONE gives up yards and points today,it is the defenses that create turnovers are the ones whose teams will win.
Quick thoughts
MarshallOnMontana : 9/15/2013 8:15 pm : link
this division blows, no one is running away from us. 0-2 is not a death nail in this NFC East. Historically you have a 12% chance at making the postseason from an 0-2 start, I feel very confident in saying the Giants playoff odds are far north of that and I'm the furthest thing from a homer. That statement is based as much on the mediocrity of the division as much as it is any compliment to the Giants

On another note, Denver looks phenomenal. To the extent that it matters in September, they're probably the best team in football right now and not even healthy. This has the look of a historic offensive regular season from them

The NFC East is now 57-67 playing out of division since 2010. 0-4 today

1.2 yards per carry. (which is very hard to believe), sums it up.
Our defense held Denver to 10 points for the half
jcn56 : 9/15/2013 8:20 pm : link
And yet somehow our defense came out and just isn't hungry.

Too bad one of the Wilpons isn't our defensive coordinator, Seth would throw on a suicide vest for one of those guys.

Best President Ever

I've seen a mediocre team for two weeks now. The only chance for this year is that the East is mediocre as well top to bottom.

The injury roulette wheel has barely started to spin.

Raiders and the Panthers. Any other patsies left on this years schedule?
I said it in the preseason

this is a 7-9 football team..
The O-Line ain't gonna get fixed in-season
Optimus-NY : 9/15/2013 8:22 pm : link
Gonna have to wait for the off-season to do that via free agency & the draft.
I would feel much better

If today was an anomaly, but There is a disturbing trend taking place here. For a good team we seem to be blown out a lot in recent years. I mentioned Cincinnati..Baltimore....Atlanta last year, while this one was competitive for a while we again found ourselves heaving prayers in the endzone too frequently. Mistakes can be corrected but........no pass rush....no running game......can not draw a frickin play for our most dynamic weapon David Wilson......I am very worried

running game means lots of third and longs.

BlueHurricane : 9/15/2013 8:24 pm : link
you will not win. Biggest issue this team has. The Oline is a fucking joke. Snee blows. Should have retired after his gift trip to Hawaii. We have not run for 100 yards over the course of 2 games. That is pathetic. Shame that we are flushing the prime of a 2 time super bowl MVP's years down the toilet because we cant block anyone.

Denver is loaded, wow.
bceagle05 : 9/15/2013 8:26 pm : link
Are flaws are no secret at this point. Linebacking corps is hilarious, interior OL is frightening, Myers blows, average RBs. I don't care if Eli throws 50 INTs - chuck and duck to our great WRs is our only hope.

Will Ellie Mae Survive
MauiYankee : 9/15/2013 8:27 pm : link
Ellie Mae has had some good times, but is awful when his hips are parallel to the line of scrimmage. Several times when he had to throw with his hips open, the ball floats. Been that way FOREVER!!

No pocket....he's mostly dreadful.

He is awful "on the run" if he cannot step into the pass.

He is NOT ambidextrous.

He is getting pounded.

Nomad Crow on the Madison : 9/15/2013 8:29 pm : link
7-9? That's terribly optimistic. Eli is a clown. The Ol is mediocre at best. The passrush is non-existent. Perry Fewell has no clue! Our LBs are high school caliber (hyperbole, but it works). And we have no running game at all. We will be lucky to win five games.
We are a putrid football team

Myers is slow as molasses at TE, why did we get rid of bennett again?

Linebackers are terrible
We have no punt return game

earlier post, The Giants have lost their confidence in themselves and that is their biggest problem right now. They have Carolina and Kansas City next, both on the road, and if they win those games, which they should, they will be 2-2 and can turn the season around.

Kansas City beat Dallas today in a typical Romo performance. He had great stats, and made some spectacular throws to Bryant, but two 2nd half fumbles put them down by four with lots of time remaining in the second half. It looked like the Chiefs had pinned Dallas on their one, but an illegal touching penalty gave them the ball on their twenty. Romo just had to lead the team on a touchdown drive against a very ordinary defense, but he missed a couple of open receivers and they had to settle for a field goal. They got the ball back with a long shot chance of getting into winning field goal range, but he failed at that and Dallas lost a big time chance to get a good early lead on the rest of the division.

One thing: none of the other NFC East fans are feeling too well tonight. Especially the Redskins.

Have a pretty good D. I wouldn't call them ordinary. Houston, flowers, berry, Johnson,Poe. They are coming together nicely. Plenty of talent.
out coached and out executed..
newmike2 : 9/15/2013 8:38 pm : link
but we all knew this was coming. The game planning did not adjust because they had no alternatives. They are a pass only team on offense with no ability to run and a soft, slow defense with a very obvious lack of talent at the LB position.

These cannot be fixed by picking up a few guys off the scrap heap, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle until the next piece needs to be replaced. Until they use the draft to address the obvious flaws, they will continue in this path.
The comments are ridiculous
HomerJones45 : 9/15/2013 8:39 pm : link
You turn the ball over 11 times and give up 28 points on returns in two games, you are going to be 0-2. Eli has not played particularly well and the young guys Wilson and Randle have now fumbled 3 times in the two games. This isn't going to happen all year.

The running game will come around. No one in the entire league is running the ball particularly well-a function of the limited practice in training camp.

Denver defense is very good- fast and they hit hard. This was going to be a tough game no matter what. Denver also got a couple of nice bounces on the fumble by the receiver and the circus pick off the players foot. Sometimes, shit happens.

The pass rush is fine. We've seen two opponents come in with the same gameplan- throw short and get the ball out quickly to minimize the sack opportunities.

1-4 in last 5 reg season games with 3 blowout losses. maybe just not very good See lots of rationalizations why were losing. A one dimensional offense and defense devoid of playmakers tells the story. Or our playmakers arent making plays right now. Eli is pressing like shit. Very tough right now

Glad I didn't see it. Win next week against Carolina or the season is over.
One of the areas I am most disappointed in is the DL
Matt M. : 9/15/2013 8:47 pm : link
Each of the last few years they have had, on paper, one of the best DLs in football. This year they even loaded up on DTs. Yet, they get no rush and get shoved around in the second half.

I've actually been encouraged
jrthomps2006 : 9/15/2013 8:50 pm : link
...by the defense. I felt they were really flying around today and Terrell Thomas looked great. I think it's unrealistic to think that you were gonna completely shut down Peyton & Co. I felt they kept him in check today. When I think of the Dallas game, I really feel like they only let in about two scores (2 DEF tds, 2 drives starting on the 15).

The offense is much more worrisome to me... especially in the red zone. We are consistently bad year in and year out which leads you back to coaching. We quite possibly have the least innovative playcalling inside the 20 that has ever existed. That series where we had 58 shots from the 5 was comical.

Refuse to bail on the season just yet - this team has shown flashes. Carolina next week will be a battle of two desperate teams.

Maybe I have mellowed a

bit in middle age, but I am really not all that worried yet. We are only 2 games into this thing. There is plenty of football left and two other teams in the division are 0-2. With parity, I can absolutely still see the Giants finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or last in the division. Time will tell.

And the Cowboys are 25-29 in their last 54 regular season games. Don't have a winning season since 2009

The Eagles are 13-23 in their last 36 regular season games, 5-13 the last two years

Given the changes with the Skins it would be kind of irrelevant to list their horrible record over a similar lengthy sample size, but this is a franchise whose last 5 seasons can essentially be boiled down to a good month and a half at the end of last year. 0-2 coming into a year with expectations which is something they've not dealt with in years

Someone has to win the division
Lots of gloating out here
Pete in CO : 9/15/2013 8:55 pm : link
And I must admit, rightfully so. The Broncos will win despite Von Miller's absence. It would be nice if the NYG were in as weak a division as the Broncos, but what can you do. Giants are a mediocre team, with too many holes.
One thing that doesn't seem to change is the predictability of the Giants' offense. As has been already said here, if the running game is predictable or weak, the passing game will suffer. That's why Eli has 7 picks already. Don't see that improving without better offensive balance.
Wow

people need to relax
GiantsFan84 : 9/15/2013 8:57 pm : link
the talent is there for this team. the players need to play better. eli has got to stop being a turnover machine and play better. myers can't fall down for no reason and he and the other receivers need to stop dropping catchable passes. this team has the talent to compete even though there are significant weaknesses on the team
Matt
MarshallOnMontana : 9/15/2013 8:58 pm : link
Im talking about the Skins, not the Giants

And the Giants do have internal expectations regardless of what the media consensus is
For me, the turning point in the game was the INT before the half.
Matt M. : 9/15/2013 8:59 pm : link
Re-watching the replays over and over, I think it was a bad call and even worse execution. Even if Nicks and Eli are on the same page and Nicks looks for the ball outside, he was still double covered with a 3rd DB coming over for help. It was not likely to be completed. So either it was not the right call for that D, it was not the right reads, a combo, whatever. The ball should have been thrown away.
It's
AcidTest : 9/15/2013 9:00 pm : link
not that complicated. You don't win if you don't control the LOS.

Last year, we couldn't control the LOS on the defensive side. So we loaded up on DL in FA and the draft. This year we can't control the LOS from the offensive side. The interior OL is as bad as the interior DL was last year.

But the only change that is coming is the reinsertion of Diehl. If Snee is benched, it won't be for Brewer, it will be for Diehl.
Talent=Cowboys=losing

The DEs were invisible today. And thats our bread and butter on D.
There is no team in the NFL without a unit or two that is a weak spot
Giantfan in skinland : 9/15/2013 9:02 pm : link
Good coaches figure out a way to work around it. Ours have in the past. Lately, it just feels to me like our staff is too stubborn to abandon what isn't working. This offense needs to be refreshed. If the staff is unwilling to do it...time for a new staff.

For fuck's sake.
This team is NOT "talented"...
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 9/15/2013 9:04 pm : link
there is talent in a couple of areas. However, much of the talent other positions over-rated.

QB, WRs, P, K, and one safety are talented. Maybe one CB. Please tell me where the rest of the talent is? Ok Wilson is talented but unfortunately cannot display his talent due to the O-line. If you want to say the D line is talented...then when will they play that way? Not playing to potential on a consistent basis = over rated. Our leading sack producer last year had only about 6 or 7 all season. Our CB's for the most part are not doing the job.

The truth is, when your team has as many holes as areas that are solid, then you cannot call the team "talented".
A few thoughts:
Victor in CT : 9/15/2013 9:04 pm : link
1) Snee has had it unfortunately.
2) Baas is a never was. He stinks.
3) Myers sucks big blue balls. He is a garbage time stat compiler. Tripped by the turf, dropping a sure 1st down, can't block at all. Those early screw ups changed the game.
4) Again, the D wasn't bad early, they worn down.
dcgiantsdan....
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 9/15/2013 9:06 pm : link
your comment about our D line being our bread and butter is exactly my point. This unrealistic perception that we have a dominant D line. We have been run over for the past couple of seasons in the run game and have not been getting consistent pressure on the QB.
I said it several times over the past year
old man : 9/15/2013 9:12 pm : link
on BBI, and for the last several years: the team seems to be falling further and further behind the rest of the NFL re: our team speed. Our receivers get no respect(yards played off by the DBs)because they don't get off the line quick enough to earn it; our DBs/CBs give tons of it because they can't play man on opponents receivers, our LBs such as they are can not keep up w/TEs, or get to sidelines to get busted up circus dog Moreno on 2 end runs for TDs, and unless Weatherford kicks it 50 yards high our STs cant get to returner to force fair catches. Add that to this years lack of push by the front 4, and lack of push by the 'O' front 5, a QB that has no confidence in the OL and forces throws because he 'feels' the pressure, plus the self inflicted wounds, and it sits at 0-2 in need of a miracle. Very disappointed that FO and coaching staff did not address/chose to recognize. In todays game, speed covers a multitude of sins, power can deflect many as well.
And I know you must execute the plays given, but it helps to
make the playbook fit the specialties/skills of the players.
We could be looking at top 10 2014 draft picks.
Rooting for the miracle!
Eli is his own worst enemy.
section125 : 9/15/2013 9:20 pm : link
He just cannot avoid forcing it deep instead of getting the 1st down or the safe open play. The stupid pass before the half to lose the chance at the FG was just a reminder of the Eagles game last year. Cruz was open at the 12. That was a huge mistake, maybe a game changer.

The run blocking sucks, but the pass blocking is generally very good. While talent makes some difference, this is scheme and instruction failure.

The Red Zone offense is inept. This is a passing team. Why do they stop throwing down there and when they do the selection is awful.

Eli was just inept today. Did I say that yet.

Little things hurt this team too. Nicks dropping a third down pass and dislocating his finger while doing so.

Both Paysinger and Williams made the same mistake allowing Moreno to turn the corner and get TDs. This late in your football career you should know that you have to get to the corner and turn it back. If either of those two had done their job Moreno gets 2 yds because he's turned back into the pursuit.
Other than that I thought the defense was pretty good against Peyton.

Just a terrible job by the coaching staff at this point.

On the postgame, Eli said he was trying to throw it out the back of the end zone. Didn't sound like a busted route.
