One in 1996 and one late last year. The difference between then and now is unbelievable. It used to be a stay in the hospital, weeks on crutches, and a ton of pain.
Now, it's same day surgery, and off crutches in 2 weeks. Very little pain, considering they are drilling into bone.
was to stay awake for my 2nd ACL reconstruction. I was completely numb to the pain, although I could feel some pulling and yanking of my leg, similar to when you get a tooth pulled. You can feel the pressure and the movement, but not the pain. It was cool because my Dr. gave me a step by step tutorial of what he was doing on a tv that he was watching. When he shaved down my meniscus, he showed me what a shaved piece of meniscus looked like and then showed me how he does the surgery. It was actually really cool.
I hate being knocked out and then waking up and being groggy for the next 2 days. That was the worst part, so I stayed awake. DIY project, good stuff. My doctor was looking on a 27 inch tube tv, not quite the same as what Dr. Andrews was using. Pretty wild stuff.

Crazy stuff.
