Gameplan for Wilson

DlineDominance : 9/20/2013 2:30 pm
Hopefully we use this week to right the ship and get a winning streak going! I understand Carolina's got major injury concerns in the secondary and it should be exploited by our plethora of WRs, but how much do you think we use this week to get the running game going? I'm hoping Carolina has to play with soft coverages to compensate for their weak secondary and that opens things up for the running game. The blocking obviously has to be better, but with what we have this year, we need that running game to at least be a threat.
my guess is 7 carries

then we go to another rb...that seems to be the trend right now with him.
answer this question?
robbieballs2003 : 9/20/2013 2:47 pm : link
What game over the last three years did we use to get our running game going? The answer is none. We don't have a run blocking OL. Eli masks a good portion of their ineffectiveness in the passing game. Its hard to mask their shortcomings in the run game.
it will be the wrong game plan

1st drive:

1-10 - incomplete deep ball
2-10 - run that gets stopped because the line can't block anyone
3-10 - 7 yard pass
4-3 punt
what would be nice
GiantsFan84 : 9/20/2013 3:23 pm : link
is if they start throwing to Wilson out of the backfield (not screens) to get him going and start using quick passes and get the defense in smaller personnel and then start to run the ball

is not a good RB. what has he done as an NFL RB?
Didn't we run all over the 49ers last year?

in last years' Panthers game.

Andre ran for over a hundred yards ... and

Ramses Barden caught a bunch of passes.

Sound like

deja vu all over again:

I hope the Panthers don't read this website!

Not a lot of confidence on this thread

But most of the points have been spot on. Our OL is not doing well in rub blocking. KG should compensate with a mix of pass plays to Wilson, as Reid did with his RB the past two games. Hence our play calling is problematic too and in general is not compensating for personnel deficiencies. That said, I have seen Games where KG calls an excellent offensive plan. I Wouldn't be surprised if that happened this weekend and we spank the Panthers
Lol rub blocking =run...
gmen4ever : 9/20/2013 5:35 pm : link
But rub blocking sounds about right.
We never should have let Barden go.
Blackbeard : 9/20/2013 5:43 pm : link
He helped us beat a crappy team last year.
I hope the Panthers aren't reading this site

but we'll give a handoff or two to Wilson, and if doesn't immediately go for an 80 yard run, we'll have Eli chuck it 40 yards down the field every play.
You have to gameplan to get him involved
UberAlias : 9/21/2013 6:25 am : link
Without lining up in 21 personnel and handing the ball to him because that is just not going to work. You can pass to set up the run, and Gilbride acknowledged as much. You can move him out wide and throw him screens or other plays designed to get him the ball in space. Once you got things going you can open up the running game.

I don't mind sticking to the run when you are getting 2 yards here, 3 yards there. You can grind it out and stick with that type of running game until things open up. The problem is, we are getting stuffed at the line or for losses far too often. Those are wasted or harmful plays and they kill drives.
With the run it is mostly about getting into favorable 3rd downs
UberAlias : 9/21/2013 6:27 am : link
And runs for no gain or losses are counter to that.

But there are ways to get Wilson involved.
we will throw to Myers

and no one will expect it.

hes our jason witten... only worse
Myers has got to get
Doomster : 9/21/2013 9:06 am : link
his head out of his ass.....While he has a lot of catches, a lot of them are mop up catches at the end of the game.....on third down , he did not get open on a couple of throws, and I think he leads the team in 3rd down receptions that don't result in first downs....

Tripping over his own feet, missing a catch at the goal line, not to mention his pathetic blocking abilities....

He has to play better than this....he has to be that guy Eli looks for when the wr's are covered.....all Whitten does is run at linebackers/coverage, and he breaks for the opening in the is simple in theory, but he seems to do it best...

He will never be a solid blocker....Beckum was a better blocker....he couldn't manhandle guys, but he would stay engaged with his guy, and guide him away from Eli....all we can hope he can do is, chip block guys effectively....

There are guys who are stat machines and the there are guys who are playahs.... hope he is the latter of the two...
Myers cant block
Rjanyg : 9/21/2013 9:14 am : link
He should only be on the field on 3rd and long
Just some average blocking
jLefty : 9/21/2013 9:42 am : link
and Wilson will show what he's got. A great burst, power, speed and a real ability to break tackles. Every time he got the ball a defender was right in his face last week. Just a little average blocking will create a running game.
For Wilson's sake
mrvax : 9/21/2013 10:29 am : link
I hope he doesn't have one ripped away from him again Sunday.
Luke Keuchly will be blowing us up every time

we try to run up the gut
