Aaron Ross

shockey8080 : 9/27/2013 9:39 am
If he plays 75 snaps again we are in a lot of trouble. His 1 interception was quickly followed by awful broken coverage for 3 tds and it's no secret that qbs look to throw against him every chance they get. A lot of BBIers defend him and I just don't see how they can, really hope webster can go, if not I wish we would play any other CB on the roster over him.

is just one of those players that makes you cringe at times and makes you happy at other times. Very inconsistent playing. When he's on, he is ON. But man, when he's off, he's so off.
He looked good.
Randy in CT : 9/27/2013 9:44 am : link
Guess what? Players are fucking perfect every time and we're lucky to have him. Jesus fucking christmas make it fucking stop?
I haven't seen him on in a couple of years
shockey8080 : 9/27/2013 9:45 am : link
and to say he looked good makes me wonder what game you were watching, did you think our o-line looked good as well?
...
26.2 : 9/27/2013 9:45 am : link
he's better at CB than any of our O Lineman are at thier positions.
He's a backup CB

I'm glad we have him.

it's really impossible to evaluate the Giants DB's in relation to the rest of the NFL.

What other DC runs a full sellout blitz and has the DB's playing 10 yards off the line so the receivers get a clean release and can go wherever they want to? If the blitz doesn't get home, and the Giants blitzes NEVER get home, what do you expect the DB's to do? The WR's have had a 10-15 full speed unobstructed head start. How can that work?

has a bit of a lifetime pass for me because he seems to step it up in big games. Those two hits in SB46 really set the tone, sure, he has moments where he's awful and when he's bad he's BAD but at the same time I don't think twice about hit in a big spot.
He played well last week and week 1.
Giants Fan in Steelers Land : 9/27/2013 9:55 am : link
Excellent signing by Reese. Perfect depth guy who is cheap. Not sure how you can complain about him after watching him fill in this year. He's the 4th CB.
He plays tough press and battles for the ball.
Giants Fan in Steelers Land : 9/27/2013 10:00 am : link
He can get burned because of this. I dont remember him getting burned against Dallas. He made 2-3 nice plays where he broke up passes. I dont remember him playing against Denver. He made more positive plays than negative against Carolina. He did give up a TD but I think he was expecting safety help.

He wasn't on the team last year and played well during the '11 run so I'm confused by the "he hasnt been on in years comment".
He's a backup DB.

Odd first post after being here for 6 years...
okiegiant : 9/27/2013 10:06 am : link
Shockey's gone by the way.

Ross is a solid back up and is so much better than the depth they had last year.
One
AcidTest : 9/27/2013 10:11 am : link
of Reese's better off season signings. Solid depth, and a good third or fourth corner. Good coverage and tackling skills. His problems are susceptibility to double moves, and questionable ball skills when the ball is in the air. He seems to mistime a lot of jumps.
He had
Giantology : 9/27/2013 10:14 am : link
several nice pass defenses and an interception vs. Carolina. It's not like he blew the game for us.

I will never understand the Aaron Ross hate on this site. He's not some top tier player, but he has shown up for us during two postseason runs and can certainly hold his own. He's the least of my concerns right now.
I'm glad we have him back
mrvax : 9/27/2013 10:20 am : link
And I'm just hoping Terrell Thomas can keep getting better and further from a final injury.
vs carolina
culloden1745 : 9/27/2013 10:22 am : link
he seemed to do ok when the game was close. after the rout began it was a matter of time before there were a few blown plays.
If Aaron Ross had been drafted in the fifth round...
Big Blue Blogger : 9/27/2013 10:27 am : link
...he'd be a lot more popular. I'm glad to have him back. He's quality depth, which is hard to come by at corner.

The main drawback of having Thomas and Ross as the third and fourth CBs is that we still don't know what we've got in Hosley. I guess we'll find out soon, if TT's knee stays sore.

Les in TO : 9/27/2013 10:27 am : link
gets a lifetime pass for me because he was involved in two super bowl runs, including some very clutch tackling against dallas with a bum shoulder in humbling the cowboys. yeah, he is inconsistent and has had some brutal games, but he's also a playmaker in the secondary and a solid veteran.
Ross stinks
Spark Em Up 22 : 9/27/2013 10:36 am : link
but we already knew that years ago so whatever, at least he looks like he's playing hard even if he's completely outclassed most weeks.
I often wonder if people spend their
BigBlueBuff : 9/27/2013 12:07 pm : link
whole week looking for things to nitpick. Aaron Ross, for example, had perhaps the ONLY GOOD PLAY the Giants turned in the entire game and yet here on BBI, we've got to have a thread started about how bad he looked on a day when the Giants got crushed on every unit.

BBB - getting solid play out of 3rd/4th string DBs
jcn56 : 9/27/2013 12:14 pm : link
can't possibly have a drawback. Hosley getting more time to work himself in can only be a benefit at this point.

People don't like Ross for one simple reason - they don't like old people. Ageists!
He's the 4th DB
bignygfan : 9/27/2013 12:20 pm : link
It always seems like the key to our secondary is C-Web.

When C-Web is solid, we are fine back there and when he is not available or playing poorly - last year's Ravens game (though he was also unlucky a bit in that one) - we have problems.
Aaron played a good game by my eyes.
section125 : 9/27/2013 12:29 pm : link
Every DB gets beat and especially when there is no pass rush. Thought he was the best DB on our side of the field.
He looked good to me
old timer : 9/27/2013 12:33 pm : link
He got beat when our pass rush took a nap for a couple of hours.
Ross played OK.....not great....
Doomster : 9/27/2013 1:49 pm : link
One td, he was in position, for another int, and it was a back shoulder pass....

The long TD down the middle, was there even a safety within 20 yards of this?

He is better than what we trotted out there for backups last year....but please tell me who played stellar back there defensively? And once again, there was no pass rush.....
Ross did his damn job...
bradshaw44 : 9/27/2013 1:51 pm : link
He can't stop every play.
Ross has his weaknesses for sure but
Jimmy Googs : 9/27/2013 3:37 pm : link
he is more than adequate for a backup corner. The better QBs or ones that have ample time to throw (ala Cam Newton) will find him and beat him, but you can say that about alot of starting corners.

His biggest flaw to us was he was drafted in first round but that is a sunk cost at this point.

is good to have on the team. not a start not terribly consistent but he flashes and he can return punts pretty well. good value for vet minimum deal

Thanks Randy
So he gave up 3 TDs now...
JoeyBigBlue : 9/27/2013 6:24 pm : link
I must of missed Thomas giving up a TD in the corner of the end zone.... Or Mundy completely blowing his assignment and leaving Ross on an island with one of the fastest players in the NFL.
Can't just blame ross
cheeseburger : 9/27/2013 6:47 pm : link
getting beat on those. you can't expect him to stay with somebody one on one with no pass rush and ryan mundy's 5.2 40 yard dash getting there late everytime. IS JAYRON HOSLEY STILL ON THIS TEAM???

Not sure where you did your research but I have plenty of posts on here in 6 years, I'll be back on this post after Sunday, I hope all you Ross fans are right, the argument that he's 3rd or 4th string is just not a good one, he doesn't belong in the nfl after his injury.
Really?
Mike in Long Beach : 9/27/2013 7:39 pm : link
Aaron Ross has been one of the few pleasant surprises on this team.

If there was a positive to be found for the Giants this week, it would be in the play of cornerback Aaron Ross in his return to starting duty. Back with the Giants after his one-year hiatus in Jacksonville, Ross sat out Week 2 but logged 76 snaps against Carolina and made an impact. His +1.6 coverage grade led New York’s defense as a pair of passes defensed and an interception looked good enough on his record to see past the long fourth-quarter touchdown to Ted Ginn (that Ross may have expected safety help on) and a pair of first-half catches that moved the chains

I've killed Ross in the past...
arcarsenal : 9/28/2013 1:11 pm : link
But I actually think he was one of the few players who played well for the most part. I know he gave up the TD but he was right there and just missed the ball. Same on another completion against him. You want the guy to at least be in a spot where he can either make a play on the ball or make it a difficult catch for a WR and he was able to at least do that.. and obviously the INT was a nice play as was the breakup in the endzone.

I honestly think this is the best Ross has looked since early in his career.
