Says Giants have to relearn
MikeN in Ottawa : 9/30/2013 11:06 am : link
how to win football games.
players have to realize the
DG : 9/30/2013 11:09 am : link
importance of every play. cited the 3 missed blocks on the 3rd and 1 toss to Wilson.

The dropped screen pass by Scott could have gone for 40 yards..
Says they scrapped and played hard...
MikeN in Ottawa : 9/30/2013 11:09 am : link
but too many missed opportunities. Players have to understand everyone has a role and every play is important...

Points to failed 3rd and 1 toss to Wilson...three guys missed blocks. You toss to create natural seams for Wilson but three guys drew blanks. Players have to understand they need to earn every yard...

Da' Rel Scott dropped screen pass...importance is that play would have gone for about 40 yards. Says margin of error too slim for Giants right now and there is no comeback with Eli under current circumstances.
Why do they continue to use Scott?
Buck Dharma : 9/30/2013 11:10 am : link
Anyone?
Problem is...players not understanding the
MikeN in Ottawa : 9/30/2013 11:11 am : link
importance of the moment, importance of each play.

Said D played well, created turnovers but they still gave up too many points.
When is the last time the Giants had a lead?
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/30/2013 11:11 am : link
Has it been Week 1?
Talent
oldutican : 9/30/2013 11:11 am : link
Lousy players miss blocks and drop passes.
Banks continues to be correct
JonC : 9/30/2013 11:11 am : link
.
They look like a rebuilding team
B in ALB : 9/30/2013 11:12 am : link
but they're too old for that.

Ouch.
Lastly, special teams opportunities....
MikeN in Ottawa : 9/30/2013 11:12 am : link
big punt return called back by penalty and then Wilson cutting back inside rather than running down the sideline on the kickoff return.

Giants, at this point, need to seize every opportunity and they are not doing that.
Ridiculous
Gman11 : 9/30/2013 11:13 am : link
So, what he's saying is that they all just need to try harder. So, I guess that means that the reason why they stink is only because they aren't giving full effort.

The lack of talent doesn't enter into the equation?
he didnt mention nick's

Drops?
Says Gilbride making some mistakes
MikeN in Ottawa : 9/30/2013 11:14 am : link
but players not executing...cites Wilson 3rd and 1 run, Myers dropping pass and Scott's drop...all makeable plays that Gilbride made a good call but players goofed.
the screen pass is BS
Giants11 : 9/30/2013 11:15 am : link
they always say that when a guy drops one. Exactly how many screen passes go for 40 yds? All the time a guy has a convoy and they still can't get the one guy blocked and it goes for like 10 instead of a big play. I know it's splitting hairs but I just don't like being presumptuous.
Scott dropped 2 easy passes and fumbled a handoff.
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/30/2013 11:15 am : link
Yet he's still going to get 1/3rd of the running plays this week.
he hit the nail
micky : 9/30/2013 11:17 am : link
"effort without execution"
Banks not really blaming Weatherford...
MikeN in Ottawa : 9/30/2013 11:17 am : link
on punt return TD but wonders whether he was told to put it out of bounds or kick directionally.

However, he says you have to understand who is back there receiving the punts.

Says effort was good but execution is terrible especially the young players.
The play to Scott (the dropped pass) is the EXACT play they need
PSIMMS 22-25-268 : 9/30/2013 11:18 am : link
to run for Wilson.
Says biggest problem right now...
MikeN in Ottawa : 9/30/2013 11:18 am : link
is players not recognizing situational football and the importance of executing situational football.
Says everybody has to stay together and
MikeN in Ottawa : 9/30/2013 11:20 am : link
that is the only way they will get out of this. Doesn't rule them out yet but everyone needs to get on the same page...have to do it together.
If this season is a lost cause
Giants11 : 9/30/2013 11:24 am : link
Wilson HAS to get a tone of touches. We have to find out what we have there going forward in planning for the future. I don't think he interferes often, but Reese needs to make that clear to this coaching staff.
I used to like Scott
Paulie Walnuts : 9/30/2013 11:35 am : link
but he really has shown very little, moving on
One other thing...Banks said the offensive line is
MikeN in Ottawa : 9/30/2013 11:37 am : link
what it is...they are rebuilding and restructuring there and it is going to be a struggle which is why it is so important to take advantage of every opportunity.

Notably, and it wasn't brought up either, he did not talk about Nicks nor did he talk about JPP and the defensive end issues.

His key message was that the Giants have to stick together and get through this together.

He said he knows it's cliché but it is the only way they will improve.

adcliff : 9/30/2013 11:46 am : link
I'm sure I've asked this before but would it be beyond the realms of everything that is sane to have Carl Banks on the defensive staff. As an adviser or assistant, the title doesn't matter. The man knows the Giants and he knows defense.
Banks missed a golden opportunity
Mark C : 9/30/2013 11:54 am : link
to stick Francessa's pompous attitude up his fat ass. The first thing Carl should have said today should have been, "The Giants quit in the fourth quarter yesterday".
How is it that when Wilson fumbled he ended up
Geeman : 9/30/2013 12:16 pm : link
in the dog house, yet Scott continues to get touches?
Those touches may as well go to Wilson who has shown better hands since game 1.
Screen Pass
Jeffrey : 9/30/2013 12:21 pm : link
Maybe it was to Scott or Wilson, but one of them thrown by Eli was a bullet at the knees. In that instance it was a bad throw.
Look at the pass to Wilson
Doomster : 9/30/2013 12:21 pm : link
and to Scott(40 yards is debateable).....both were thrown hard and low....Eli has to work on this...
Geeman, I think it has more to
barens : 9/30/2013 12:40 pm : link
Do with either his ability to pick up blitzes, or his inability to figure out his assignment. As much as I'd like to see Wilson get 80 or 90% of the snaps, he still looks out of rythym or unsure when it comes to finding a man to block.
TTH...
arcarsenal : 9/30/2013 12:46 pm : link
We've never had a lead at any point in this entire season. We've trailed or been tied at 0 for all 240 minutes of football so far.
arc
Greg from LI : 9/30/2013 12:48 pm : link
Close to that, yeah, but they did have brief leads against Denver - 3-0 and 9-7.
arc
whobetta : 9/30/2013 12:48 pm : link
thats not correct.

i believe we led against Denver at one point early in the game... 6-3 or something

additionally to GEEMAN thats why the coaches are boneheads.. arguably your most explosive player in Wilson gets benched for 2 bad fumbles, yet we continue to let Scott fark up the joint and split touches between him and ineffective Jacobs...

ummm OK
Actually, we were tied with Dallas at 3 before they pulled ahead.
arcarsenal : 9/30/2013 12:49 pm : link
And we led Denver 3-0 and 9-7 briefly. So.. there's that.
Yeah I had to go back and look.
arcarsenal : 9/30/2013 12:51 pm : link
So not all 240 minutes. about 230.
if I recall correctly....
Greg from LI : 9/30/2013 12:55 pm : link
After the Carolina game they said the Giants had held a lead for a grand total of 11 minutes in three complete games, which was the worst in football, and obviously that didn't improve this week.

Christ, this is a bad team. At least the last time the Giants were a truly bad team, 2003, they had a lot of injuries as a contributing factor. This crew is just plain bad. Even the lousy 1995-96 teams were usually in the game because of a solid defense, they just could never score enough to win.
The '96 team beat a defending
lawguy9801 : 9/30/2013 1:00 pm : link
world champion Cowboys team something like 20-6. That ain't happening this year.
...
Toth029 : 9/30/2013 1:01 pm : link
The 2003 crew was still bad. They had a lousy record even when KC went down.
My concern: David Wilson
DG : 9/30/2013 1:37 pm : link
is not going to become another Tiki Barber and will not develop into an elite back.

Tiki had superb vision. Maybe Wilson can develop that, I'm not sure. He does have elite acceleration. I'm concerned that he lacks elite RB instincts.

Of course, the line play is hindering him greatly. It makes it difficult to evaluate him objectively.
We ain't beating the defending champs this season
bignygfan : 9/30/2013 1:56 pm : link
Don't play the Ravens.
Doomster re 1st screen to Scott
nygirlie : 9/30/2013 2:14 pm : link
please look at the tape. it was a perfect catcheable pass and not at all a bullet.
Scott gets PT because Wilson fumbles and can't pass protect
WideRight : 9/30/2013 2:16 pm : link
kind of funny to think about
Slapnutz -
Exit 172 : 9/30/2013 2:18 pm : link
What was there ever to "really like" about Scott? He's never done a thing in a meaningful NFL game.
I don't agree with Banks on the 3rd & 1
G-Men Fan : 9/30/2013 2:28 pm : link
I'm sure there were missed blocks but why call that play in the 1st place? I would like to see some stats on how often the sweep works for the Giants under Gilbride on 3rd and short. How about calling a play that doesn't require the RB to gain 6-8 yds just to make the 1st? You are giving the D too many chances to make a stop.
Well
nicky43 : 9/30/2013 2:28 pm : link
"His key message was that the Giants have to stick together and get through this together."

He must have heard TCs presser after the Carolina game. Catch up Carl.

The Scott useage better stop after this past week
Mike in Jersey : 9/30/2013 2:50 pm : link
At 0-4, this team isn't going any where so time to start thinking about the future. A lot of the kid's problems are due to lack of experience. He isn't going to improve as a pass blocker for example by standing on the sidelines in passing situations.
The kid being Wilson
Mike in Jersey : 9/30/2013 2:51 pm : link
Didn't mention his name in previous post.
