Great moments in announcing Giants games

ray in arlington : 10/2/2013 4:45 pm
I'm thinking of great momemts in Giants history as captured by the Giants radio announcers or the TV announcers (for TV, I can only think of Pat Summerall).

One was Jim Gordon saying something to the effect that winning the Superbowl (or maybe going to the Superbowl) was something that Giants fans thought they'd never see. It encapsulated all those frustrations of the 70's.

The other is Dick Lynch yelling "GOOD" right before Bob Papa gives the good news about the Lawrence Tynes overtime kick in Green Bay. Glad he had that moment of joy.

I also liked the way Pat Summerall said, "EMMANUEL MCDANIEL...TOOK IT AWAY!"

I like Bob Papa a lot, but a signature call doesn't come to mind. What did he say about Roy Williams of the Cowboys?

There will be NO threepeat!

Loved Pat Summerall.

- Pat Summerall right before Bahr's FG as time expired in the 1990 NFC Championship.
Most recently, I loved the Al Michaels/Cris Collinsworth moment

when JPP blocked the FG at the end of the Dallas game. "Ughhhhh, unbelievable!"

Was thinking of the same phrase from Summerall. Can still hear it now .."Simms...to Bavaro... (and what always followed those 2) ... Touchdown Giants.

Love that Summerall quote.

One of the best games I ever witnessed. Summerall and Madden defined Giant football in the 1980s. Lovable Dick Lynch was drunk by the third quarter. I think he played without a helmet too many times.
I'll take the voice of Summerall with me to the grave

Bob Papa's call of Victor Cruz 99 yard TD is the best I've ever heard him do. Can't pull off of you tube does anyone have it?
Papa's got some good ones from 2011
mattlawson : 10/2/2013 9:10 pm : link
They play them every morning before 2011. The Victor Cruz one is a bro classic. Nothing like the playoff ones you're mentioning.

That entire Gatorade bucket exchange with Madden's telestrator and Summerall playing along as the straight man during SB XXI was amazing.

Then they cued up their player profile graphic with the bucket's height and weight, and it was his 3rd year in the league.

Also, on the replay of the flea-flicker to McConkey, Madden was great:

"Make a fake, make a dupe, make a flop ... But he didn't get in the end zone."

I've probably watched the VHS recording of the game 100 times.
Look at Bavaro

Giants-49ers 1985 Playoff Game...

Summerall: "What is the crowd singing? 'We will rock you!'?"

Madden: "Yeah, 'We...will...we...will...rock...you.'"

(Commercial break)

Summerall: "We will rock you...that's what they were signing all during the break. And they all seem to know the words."
Kinda random
bceagle05 : 10/2/2013 11:35 pm : link
but I liked when Madden gave Erik Howard his props while the Giants were driving for the game winner in San Fran.

Paraphrasing, he said: 'It all started with Erik Howard, an old nose tackle! Those old nose tackles don't get a whole lot of attention, but if the Giants go on to win this game Erik Howard will have made the biggest play of his life!'
In fact, everything Madden and Summerall

said during that game was perfect. They captured the drama beautifully. My favorite broadcast of all time.
