Chris Snee might be done for the season. Source said he could be headed to injured reserve today. #nyg

Giants G Chris Snee likely headed to IR today and the operating table soon thereafter. Tried to rehab it. Not responding.
I guess we may have seen the last of him on an NFL field.

makes the most sense. if the beason trade goes through and will hill is active they need two roster spots. Plus they'll likely need a 3rd if they have to active Charles James from the PS b/c Webster, Hosley, and Ross are all injured.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one other player IR'd too.

Randy in CT : 10/4/2013 10:46 am : link
that started with Eli. Good luck, Chris!
It's a damn shame how quickly Snee fell off
jcn56 : 10/4/2013 10:46 am : link
Too many forget how awesome he was in his prime. His body fell apart last year, and he was contemplating retirement.

Good luck to CS, hope the rehab goes well.
AcidTest : 10/4/2013 10:46 am : link
great Giant, but like Diehl, he needs to retire.
bc4life : 10/4/2013 10:48 am : link
news - was a matter of time. and he will announce retirement at the end of the season
Bubba : 10/4/2013 10:51 am : link
I'm as greatful for Snee's contributions as anyone but having a son in the Army I'm getting a little tired of the "Warrior" moniker being applied to professional athletes.
My educated guess(not a big reach)
Big Blue '56 : 10/4/2013 10:53 am : link
is that this is it for Snee and prevents an uncomfortable dilemma for TC..

If so, Thanks for a wonderful career here and two SBs..I can't imagine the pressure of being n the lockerroom all these years with your father-in-law as the HC..He certainly rose above it. Way above it, imo
damn shame
mfsd : 10/4/2013 10:56 am : link
football is a tough sport to have a long career in. Snee was a bedrock for us when healthy
Get well, Chris
JonC : 10/4/2013 10:58 am : link
it had to be done
GiantsFan84 : 10/4/2013 11:01 am : link
hopefully for his sake he decides to retire as his body just seems like it can't take the pounding anymore. a really excellent giant for many years.
Thnaks for all you gave, it was a great career.

I could see him coming back, as he doesn't want to end it like this. And he'll probably be reinserted back into the starting lineup & it'll be a disaster.

I hope that doesn't happen, but if Snee & TC both return in '14, you know it's going to happen.

Great, great Giant. But it's time for him to call it a career.
No disrespect intended for one of the greatest Giant OG's
PeterS : 10/4/2013 11:03 am : link
of all time but he was done last year.
Snee's exit is the proverbial bat signal.. .

for Coughlin's speedy retirement.
I can absolutely see that happening San Fran.

I'm willing to bet nothing changes this offseason.
Looks like his career is done
Ray_Ray (NYG) : 10/4/2013 11:12 am : link
@RVacchianoNYDN: Giants G Chris Snee is likely headed to IR today. His injured hip needs surgery. Season-ending. Possibly career-ending too. #NYG
He was a true Giant
Jay on the Island : 10/4/2013 11:13 am : link
and a damn fine guard. However he needs to call it a career but I am terrified that he is going to attempt a comeback and Coughlin will hand him a starting job next year and he plays just as bad as he was the past two years.
BigBlueShock : 10/4/2013 11:14 am : link
I am a Army and war veteran myself. It never ceases to amaze me when people are offended by references to players as warriors. Who cares? It's no reflection on me, your son, or any other soldier that has fought for our country. I have many many friends that are veterans, and not one of them could care less if a football player is called a warrior. It doesn't belittle what we've done one iota. Life's too short my man.
a warrior
PaulBlakeTSU : 10/4/2013 11:15 am : link
and a hell of a Giant.
Career or no, Jerry Reese has fnal say on the personnel, not TC
Optimus-NY : 10/4/2013 11:16 am : link
even though it is done by committee. Snee being back next year bucks common sense for his cap hit alone. Factor in his age, injury history, and injury situation now, and it's a recipe for disaster. It looks like we've seen the last of him on the playing field in Carolina about 2 weeks ago in a Giants uniform.
Thanks Chris
MattHofstra : 10/4/2013 11:19 am : link
You were a warrior on the field and a Great Giant!
How much is the cap
AnishPatel : 10/4/2013 11:19 am : link
hit if we cut him?
Thanks Chris!
old man : 10/4/2013 11:22 am : link
Rehab well, and go enjoy the wife and kids full time.
When healthy you were a wall.
Great career
Matt in SGS : 10/4/2013 11:22 am : link
a class act and was able to succeed in a situation that most would find uncomfortable (playing for his father in law).

In all, as we have been discussing, Snee will most likely end up not passing the team physical in February and that will take the sting out of where we all know this was going. Snee is too hurt to play at a high level and his cap number is too high. He will go out just as O'Hara and Suebert did and will retire a Giant.
Thanksgiving should be interesting

Another Giant warrior gone. Sorry to see it happen this way.
Victor in CT : 10/4/2013 11:37 am : link
He's been a great Giant from the day he got here. As my dad always said, "getting old sucks".
I appreciate the outstanding performance
nicky43 : 10/4/2013 11:40 am : link
Chris has given this team and it's hard to believe his career as a NFL player is going to end so fast. I'm not sure it's faster than normal or I'm just aging faster but he will be missed and he already is being missed on the line.

I do agree with those who believe this is probably the end of his career and I seriously doubt he'll be back next year. They may have already known that when they restructured his salary.

What if he retires now?
phil fromphilly : 10/4/2013 11:46 am : link
Do we regain any cap space immediately? Is this possible Optimus?
Anish - That's not an issue
Optimus-NY : 10/4/2013 11:55 am : link
Snee would apply for and get termination pay.
I think Matt is spot on about this:

Too bad things ended on such a down note,
Mad Mike : 10/4/2013 12:05 pm : link
but that's life in football. Thanks for so many great years.
Its a sad day and I hope this isnt the last of Snee
Tuckrule : 10/4/2013 12:12 pm : link
Great Giants and a pro bowl guard in his prime. He was the first piece to what became a very good and dominant O line. If this is it, he can be extremely proud of his career and hes got a pretty good father in law.
he will
SBlue46 : 10/4/2013 12:21 pm : link
Have surgery a week before preseason
And play next year..if tc is here
Shame it ended like this but
NoMatter : 10/4/2013 12:24 pm : link
It was time.

While I understand the team reasoning not to disclose injuries, I think Snee'd be looked at in a better light these past couple years if they acknowledged the depth of his hip issue(s) instead of the "if he's in the line up, he's healthy, so he must just suck" mentality that kind of formed around him.
Best wishes to one of the all-time great Giants offensive linemen
dpinzow : 10/4/2013 12:36 pm : link
Sad to see his career decline due to the injuries. He'll definitely be in the Ring of Honor at some point
No surprise here
Arcanum : 10/4/2013 12:50 pm : link
He was done for the season, before the season even started
Thanks Snee
Pascal4554 : 10/4/2013 12:54 pm : link
Hate to say it but I don't think I truly appreciated him in his prime until now when our O line is in shambles. I took it for granted over the years that whoever was on the other side of the ball facing him was going to get shut down.
The handwriting was on the wall last season with this team.
chops : 10/4/2013 12:55 pm : link
And the pre-season showed there were breakdowns on the team.

Chis was one, unfortunately. It just happened so fast.

go fuck yourself? Who cares what you think?
A great Giant

all the best Mr. Snee
Snee was an awesome player

A great GIANT. I'm guessing this will be the end - and what a great career he had. I miss the days of Snee & Seubert at guard.
Bubba : 10/4/2013 1:17 pm : link
Thank you for your perspective and service. Its just that my wife and I do a lot work with the Wounded Warrior Project and see first hand what true Warriors are all about. No need to tell you what a sacrifice they make for no other reason than pride in self and country. Its just a little tough for me to see the word applied to others. My comment was in no way meant to diminish the career of Snee who gave everything he had to the team. I wish him nothing but the best.
Given Snee's size and profession
RB^2 : 10/4/2013 2:38 pm : link
This doesn't sound good at all. Forget about football, I just hope he comes out of this pain free.
He is an extremely highly paid warrior

Jesus Randy. Take your medication.
