At least we know the eagles aren't going to run the ball with Reid coaching that team. Oh wait...
we seriously need a new training staff...

Hope our offense can get its head out of its ass and outshoot Philly. 0-5 will turn to 0-6 quickly after Thursday next week.
what they need is a real training camp

in a really bad situation:
Unless PW has concocted a 3-8 zone defense, or a 9-2 and all D linemen rush with 1 arm in the air in hopes of knocking the pass down, the stubborness we all hit TC on about starting rookies will be removed for this game.
All hands on deck, including maybe 2 PS guys.

We'll start to see what we have if that injury report yesterday lingers that way for a while.

In agreement: I questioned Ronnie Barnes and staff yesterday.
Coughlin may be forced to play Hankins

arcarsenal : 10/4/2013 2:03 pm : link
This would be a lot worse if Maclin were healthy.

Prince is going to have to find a way to keep DeSean quiet. If he can do that, I'm not terribly scared of Avant or Cooper. McCoy is the one who scares me the most.

Jenkins would be a massive loss for this one. He's a guy we really need to be able to suit up.
I'm not really worried about Jackson
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/4/2013 2:05 pm : link
We've denied the deep plays well. You just bracket Jackson over top with safety help so he can't get 40 yards deep.

McCoy is going to get his, you just try to limit the players around him.

Hate to say it, but

shades of Fassel's last year, when someone later said "injuries are a cancer." Who was that guy who said that?
I actually think Avant is a pretty good player

certainly not a dynamic big play guy, but he makes tough catches and knows where the chains are.

season we have one of the longest injury's really something that is hard to explain at this point.I just can't understand how a team can have so many injuries every single season
Not worried about DT
ZGiants98 : 10/4/2013 2:30 pm : link
Linval is a big loss but Hankins has been a load in practices according to Coughlin. We still have Rodgers, Patterson, and most likely Jenkins. We should be fine at DT.

or do the Gaints seem to have more and more injuries each successive year for the past three to four years. I know all teams have their share of injuries but it seems to be an epidemic that gets worse year after year after year with this team.

Interesting Observation about injuries
nicky43 : 10/4/2013 3:28 pm : link
And this has nothing to do with our state of injuries and it's not my observation but this was discussed this morning on the NFL Satellite radio channel.

Their was talk about the possibility of the shorter practice times in the off season along with the Thursday games shortening the rest/recovery period from a previous game as having an impact in the increased injuries we are seeing across the league. I'm not sure I agree with this concept but I have been following the NFL for over 50 years and I really don't remember the number of injuries per team per season averaging this high. Maybe that's because now I'm following the league closer?

Maybe it's because as we move further from those great generations that worked hard and fought in world wars that we are a weaker physical race. It's all this junk food and ask the mayor of NY, it's those super-sized sodas! Just kidding here.

Can Nassib play CB?

I have little doubt that the injuries are real, but . . . ,

that the amount of injuries that the Giants seem to have annually have some relation to Ronnie Barnes' methods?

Just a thought. I have no idea, but i think that he might have some impact on what's been going on.

There has to be a logical reason (beyond bad luck) for why Giant player injuries that don't seem initially serious become serious (Austin, Robinson, etc etc..)?
Ronnie Barnes has routinely been applauded around the league.
TC : 10/4/2013 4:26 pm : link
The only method that might relate to the number of Giants injured is that he's not likely to recommend a player go back on the field if it's going to result in further injury. I believe the reason so many injuries are initially described as trivial and then become serious is equal parts wishful thinking and disinformation from the coaches. Coughlin uses disinformation regularly.

A more productive examination might have to do with whether Giants' training methods have anything to do with it. But then, all teams have injuries. It's the game.
I have thought that about Barnes for years.
Great White Ghost : 10/4/2013 4:36 pm : link
High stress short duration workouts meant to mimic game conditions as opposed to traditional workouts I think are a contributing factor to our long standing penchant for injuries.I have nothing to base this on other than a funny feeling in my big toe, I am not a trainer, but it's what I think.

I believe more traditional workouts strengthen the entire muscle group, as opposed to increased stress on one area and maybe not as much stress on the rest of the group, underdeveloped areas then give out in game conditions, even as the target muscles are more capable.

The basic question is, are game conditions the best way to develop muscles for games? That answer seems to be intuitively yes,but in reality in don't think that's the case.Broader spectrum workouts enable the body to deal with unanticipated stresses ( i.e., the ones that result in injury)as opposed to super targeted high stress workouts designed specifically for performance at a particular task. Just my 2 cents.

Barnes is the problem?
Dylan fan : 10/4/2013 9:48 pm : link
Below is a link to all the NFL players on the injured list. If Barnes is the problem, then the trainer on every team needs to be replaced. The numbers are (W/IN 1 OR 2) the # of players on the injury report from 9/30 to today, not double/triple/etc. counting for each player on the list more once. Some of the #s for each team are probably inaccurate, as there are ex-Giants on the Giants list. I'm not that familiar w/ other teams to know how many players are no longer on those other teams, so those # are probably higher than they actually are by a few players.

Very interesting thread on the forum about Eagles conditioning program
Great White Ghost : 10/5/2013 12:23 pm : link
Amd it is the Polar opposite of Barnes program. Can't say which is best, but they are VERY different approaches.Players love them, but I can't help but wonder isn't it against the CBNA to practice on tuesdays? the players there get a VERY heavy and prolonged workout with a LOT of basic drills that players normally do little of inseason, stuff that most teams do in training camp, and then only occasionally thereafter.
I will say the approach the eagles are taking is more in line with exactly what I was talking about.People will defend Barnes , I've noticed more than once he is a "Sacred Cow".

I'm firmly convinced that in a few years after a coaching change we will be using conditioning methods more similar to what the Eagles use and less similar to what Ronnie Barnes does.
