Wild thought here, but if Kuhn shows he is ready, I wonder if the Giants contemplate trading away one of their DTs?
HAHAHA I can't even type that with a straight face.
So you never know...
2) Trade some veterans: The Giants aren't going anywhere, and tied to point 1 above, some of these vets made more sense before the roof collapsed. The Giants should be sellers here and they actually have some pieces teams would want, specifically on the defensive line
- Shaun Rogers
- Mike Patterson
Will they get a first round pick back? No, they won't get a second day pick either. However, I see no reason to have Rogers and Patterson around at the expense of playing Hankins and (if healthy) Kuhn. Teams are always needing help at DT, I would think the Giants could net a 6th or 7th for these guys...regroup the 7th dealt for Beason.
I kid..I kid...

Just sayin'
picking up a 6th or a 7th next year isn't going to do squat for the fortunes of this team, so there's no point in trading just yet. IF we lay a big goose egg again on Monday, then let the talks begin.
It's pathetic that this is what this year has become: hoping we recoup a 7th next year.
Let youth be served

they are 1 yr deals
Wow.
Just sayin'
Please refresh my memory Kuhn fan-club members.
If we go into the bye 2 games back with 8 to play, we're not dead. But we absolutely cannot be any more than 2 back going into the bye week. We need to make up a game on both DAL and PHI (and we can do it directly to PHI by beating them) before hand and that's going to require winning each of the next 2 games.
Can't lose either of the next 2. If we do, we can't even have these crazy, hypothetical, 0.0001% chance scenarios because they'll just be totally dead.
Maybe because we have one of the worst run defenses in the league?? (ranked 26th, and we jumped up 5 spots)
Tell me more about how good our DTS are.Pfffft.
Unless 26th place is good enough for you.
We have terrible LBs and underperforming ends. That's where teams are running on us. Outside the tackles.
And even if they weren't, a very raw, old for a second year Kuhn wouldn't be a difference maker anyway.
I don't understand what people expect with bad DE's and very bad LB'ers??
- we are always playing from behind and teams are running the ball on us more in second half
- a couple of the running QBs we have played have gained a lot of yards on scrambling passing downs/read option plays
I think the Giants are actualy in the middle of the pack on yards per rushing attempt which might be a better indicator.
DT's don't normally accrue that many tackles..propably 35 - 45 a year is norm..LB'ers and safeties get all that work..
But continue on the fable..
I think he can make the DL better. You don't. Time will tell.
Bottom line, if you have your best 53 on the roster, I think he belongs in that group.
It’s not all bad for the Giants, and it wasn’t against the Eagles. The previously excellent Jason Kelce was given a hard time by the ability of the Giants’ defensive tackles to stunt and get off the snap exceptionally quickly. It saw them get in the backfield on numerous occasions and leave LeSean McCoy averaging a seasons worst 2.3 yards per carry.
So the onus is on those big bodies to do the same against the Bears’ front line. While the team has struggled to generate any sort of consistent pass rush they have delivered the goods against the run, led by former Eagle Mike Patterson (+9.0 run defense). His 10 defensive stops against the run are second most of all defensive tackles, with the rest of the unit combining for a not too shabby 20 (including four on 21 run snaps from debutant Johnathan Hankins last Sunday).
It might be bending the rules slightly to mention both Mike Patterson (+2.8) and Johnathan Hankins (+3.7) here, but it didn’t feel right to mention one and not the other. They arrived in New York in different circumstances with Hankins a second-round draft pick out of Ohio State in April’s NFL Draft, while Patterson came over after playing just 136 snaps in his final season in Philadelphia, with questions about his health after his last few years. He’s fast answering those questions however, as part of an impressive Giants defensive tackle rotation that includes Hankins.
Neither were much of a factor as pass rushers, with Hankins the only one to record any pressure, and that coming in the form of a single hit and hurry. That role was covered by Cullen Jenkins, while our pair of Secret Superstars were dominant against the run. Hankins, playing just 21 snaps against the run, recorded five tackles, with four resulting in a defensive stop, giving him a Run Stop Percentage of 19.0%.
Patterson registered just the one tackle, for a loss at least, but was a handful for the Eagles’ interior offensive line throughout, forcing two cuts by running backs and blowing up the option by beating center Jason Kelce on 1st-and-10 with 8:21 remaining in the first quarter.
And let's not forget that Marvin Austin is unemployed again and would look as good as Kuhn or anyone else as the inactive last DT.
But quite frankly Patterson is not exactly "old" yet and would be nice to have in the DT rotation for next year, especially if we lose Joseph.
And just who would take him? At the rate he's going, we'd have to throw in a 4th rounder to complete the deal.

that Robinson is back and looking good?
In this sad sack season, some real game snaps from Robinson, and him (and Donnell) showing enough to park Myers and/or Pascoe on the bench, would be a welcome reprieve.
