It's time to to take the shrink wrap off of Adrien Robinson

Tom in NY : 11/11/2013 12:27 pm
9 games, inactive for all of them (yes, he was injured for the early part of the season). The Giants have carried him for a reason, and they need to find our what they have in him.

The run blocking by Myers and Donnell is almost non-existent.
The Packers are not a great defense, so a good time to get Robinson on the field to see if he can contribute.

This guy was known for his blocking in college, I can't believe after he has now practiced fully for 3 weeks that he wouldn't be an upgrade on what they have put out there....at least for blocking.
I'll trust the coaching staff on him

but I'm eagerly awaiting his arrival into the starting lineup. Myers and Donnell are dime a dozen TEs. Hopefully Robinson can develop into something more, he certainly has the physical tools necessary.
The time for auditions was the pre-season...

Now is the time to play the guys who give the team the best chance to win. That is the one and only consideration when putting together the game plan.
That recent quote from Mike Pope

so does Donnell...

give us that much better a chance to win than Robinson?
I wouldn't call Myers a dime a dozen TE.
Riggies : 11/11/2013 12:35 pm : link
He's quite special, as he legitimately doesn't seem to do anything but catch passes short of the marker in garbage time well.

There's not a lot of TEs on NFL rosters like that, nevermind #1 TEs.
What i think we fail to understand
Blue Blood : 11/11/2013 12:38 pm : link
is that the coaches dont use the GAME to evaluate what a player has.. they use the practices and film study sessions to evaluate what a player has..

the reality is if they are not doing what they need to do in practice and dont apply what they learned in film study they probably WONT do it on the field either.. which hurts the team...

the game is not to "find out what they have"..

not another liability.
Meyers has been a big disappointment
Matt M. : 11/11/2013 12:45 pm : link
I never expected great point of attack blocking or blazing speed or big YAC. But, watching his tapes from Oakland, he was a TE very adept at finding holes in a defense's zone and exploiting one on one coverage by a LB. He has displayed very little of those strengths here, making his weaknesses more glaring.
Let's see,
Doomster : 11/11/2013 12:46 pm : link
Myers can't block or consistently get open....

Donnell can't run a pattern without falling down or running out of the end zone.....

Yet, the JPP of TE's, still can't get out on the field....
The
AcidTest : 11/11/2013 12:51 pm : link
reality is that we have NO TEs.

Myers can't block, which is a real problem considering that most of our OL can't either. He's also still learning the offense.

Donnell. Who? Oh yeah, he's the guy who can't stay in bounds.

Robinson. Can't stay healthy.

Pascoe. What does he do?

The whole position is a waste, but we might have a little more production if the offense wasn't so complicated. TEs, OL, RBs, and WRs, nobody is ever on the same page

Milton : 11/11/2013 12:54 pm : link
When they need an extra blocker at TE, they bring in Brewer. He was in for 15 snaps as the jumbo TE.
this guy
M in CT : 11/11/2013 12:58 pm : link
is the most frustrating player since Sinorice Moss. just mind boggling that he's still not on the field after all this time.
at this point,

I don't have in faith our coaching to properly evaluate talent...especially O-line and TEs.
the worst part
M in CT : 11/11/2013 1:00 pm : link
is that this offense is missing the exact type of player that Robinson is supposed to be. a big, athletic, pass-catching tight end to move the chains.

look around the league - most of the great offenses have one of these guys. that's what we're missing right now (in addition to the interior line, of course).

M in CT : 11/11/2013 1:01 pm : link
i wouldn't go that far. it's entirely possible (if not more likely) that robinson is just too fragile and can't make it through the daily rigors of being an NFL TE. the guy has never been healthy. how are you supposed to coach and evaluate a guy like that?

Perfectly said. I would only add his winning pedigree having played for the Raiders.
should re-sign Travis Beckum

I keyed on Robinson a lot during the preseason and some in the Dallas game prior to his injury and he did look strong at the POA. I really want to see him back out there if he is progressing during practice sessions. I realize the coaches know best but this guy did bulk up from last year to this year and he appears to know how to lock on to the defender and hold his block. Would definitely allow us to run wide again instead of between the tackles. Could be a nice little spark to our OFF but coaches have to trust he is getting the job done in practice.
reese should have never called this guy.. the JPP of TE's

People on BBI keep clamoring for the Giants to use Robinson as if he
Giants61 : 11/11/2013 1:22 pm : link
has proven himself to be something special. What has he done to deserve this? He is always hurst and when is not hurt he is not in the game based on the coaches decision. Give up the ghost already.

mjvm52106 : 11/11/2013 1:29 pm : link
that is because he is an unknown, potentially different and better. We already know we have NOTHING at TE... The unknown has possibilities the known has probabilities- like probably will miss a block, drop a pass or just plain lose their place on the field...
I think the clamor for Robinson is because
81_Great_Dane : 11/11/2013 1:35 pm : link
1) The other TEs are mediocre at best (though I think Donnell may have potential) and

2) It's time for everyone to find out whether they have anything in Robinson or not.

M in CT : 11/11/2013 1:35 pm : link
you don't run a team based on possibilities. you run it by watching players in practice and then choosing which ones give you the best shot to win on Sunday.

if Coughlin and Mike Pope see this guy practice and deem him either a) not healthy enough to play or b) not good enough to play, then i think we can trust their judgment over yours, considering you haven't watched adrien robinson in practice.

fair, or not?

I agree, but some players are better in the game than they are in practice. Makes sense to give him and Donnell more fo a shot at the expense of Pascoe and Myers who have established their incompetence.
I agree that
I Love Clams Casino : 11/11/2013 2:27 pm : link
some #2's when they get in a game can really perform. Some guys just don't practice well...Having said that, I wouldn't want to be a coach who lives by that statement.

Let's face it.....it's safer to not put him in for fear of the "unknown", but the "known" ain't all that great either.

Perhaps they just slowly work him in?

I know the quote you are referring to, and the single line that was quoted around BBI was cherry picked from his response to a question during the bye:

Quote:
Q: What about Adrien Robinson, can you expect him back anytime soon?
A: I don’t know. The injury he has for a guy his size took a long time to heal, hopefully it has healed. He should be back at practice this week. He’s in the bounds of about 280 pounds, so he certainly has the physical structure and as a young player who hasn’t played a great deal, when players of this kind miss practice, you don’t learn to pilot the space shuttle in a flight simulator. That’s the thing he hasn’t had the chance to do, actually get in the activity, in the game situations. It seems just when he’s ready to make a move and we have plans to get him in the game, he’s unfortunately been hit with an injury. Hopefully he’ll contribute in the second half here, but being on the sideline has not replaced his game experience. That’s what Donnell has had somewhat and Robinson has not.
Robinson must really be shit in practice
Jim in Forest Hills : 11/11/2013 6:42 pm : link
If he can't unseat Myers and Donnell.
Any athletic OL?
old man : 11/11/2013 7:32 pm : link
Like the small nickel/big nickel that's become our back 7 on D , why not a big OL the hole game, and a pass to the tackle eligible once in a while just to keep the D honest. Likely get as many catches and yards as we do w/ Myers, and Eli a little more protected; maybe even pop a big gain periodically on the run, or the pass.
I don't give a shit if he knows how to block or not...
SHO'NUFF : 11/11/2013 7:39 pm : link
just put him in and see what he can do...not like it will get worse than Myers...let him run seam routes all day for all I care.
Ah, might as well go full Run & Shoot

and cut all the tight ends. KG has run that offense before with the Houston Oilers (and actually did very well running the ball; Lorenzo White was the HB in 1992 under Gilbride, and ran for over 1200 yards).

the entire season? There are a few posters here claiming he must suck in practice but how can he suck in practice if he hasn't practiced. I just don't understand how so many posters quickly turn on a player and almost root for them to fail.
Can we stop making excuses?
Jim in Forest Hills : 11/11/2013 8:05 pm : link
Robinson was here last year and the offense hasn't changed. Will Hill came in and played right away without practice. He's a healthy scratch which means the coaches think Donnell and Myers give them a better chance to win. Think about that. Myers and Donnell give them a better chance to win.

UDFA Donnell who doesn't know how to stay in bounds is playing ahead of him.

Robinson got hurt in the final pre-season game vs. New England, and has not played since.

Which Dallas game are you referring to?
Myers just doesn't fit our offense!
idinkido : 11/12/2013 6:10 am : link
The TE, used by the Giants, is primarily a blocker who on a limited amount of plays becomes a free and effective receiver. Opposing defenses don't respect Myers as a blocker and thus he becomes easier to defend against as just a receiver. We are suppose to learn from our experiences: Travis Beckum! Players like Bennett, Boss, and Ballard fit our system and make our offense better. It really hurts us that Myers is our TE.
Not big on stats but

is right on. Another bad pick by Reese and Ross based on athleticism and potential not demonstrated ability or consesnsus of other draft information. These two are trying to show how smart they are by finding steals and taking players that nobody else will take. They have cost us dearly especially on the Ol over the past years with this philosophy of drafting. Time it STOPPED.
