Angry Eli?

exiled : 11/18/2013 8:08 am
Another game not televised in my area. (I should just move back to NJ.) Did Eli really give Meyers a hard time on the sidelines yesterday? Did he go all Tom Brady? I'm not sure how I feel about that. I've always appreciated Eli's cool-headedness. ("Cooler than the other side of the pillow.") What's the consensus?
He's really out of control.
BrettNYG10 : 11/18/2013 8:17 am : link
Time to let him go.
He tore Murphy a new one too.

friggin' time. Eli needs to tell these guys that either they run the right patterns or they will not see the ball.

Murphy cost us at least three and maybe six points yesterday. It was totally on him.

Too many boneheaded plays being made by the offense.
He also

got on Cruz for a wrong pattern inside the Packers 10 on a 3rd down.

Its about time Eli goes after these guy for continually to mess up time after time.
Eli always talks
GIANTSr01 : 11/18/2013 8:41 am : link
with his WRs after a miscommunication. On occasion it gets slightly heated.

Didn't see him go after Myers (or Murphy) though. Murphy needs to go back to riding the pine though.
yes, and it was justified
NYG007 : 11/18/2013 8:58 am : link
He did gesture a handful of times. But he laid into both Murphy, he caused a big red zone INT, and Doo Doo Brown, when he screwd up a route in the red zone on 3rd down and crossed in front of Cruz. Brown also la la gagged on 2 check downs, running half speed on one, and not looking the ball in on another.

Those things can not continue to happen. I am glad Eli finally got pissed at these guys, he needs to do more of that to keep them from constantly screwing up.

I think it might have been Brown, not Cruz that ran the wrong route
Listened to the game on the radio

Papa and Banks were saying that Eli was pissed at Murphy after the INT, and that Gilbride was also talking to the WR.

TV cameras must not have caught it.
Didn't see it but the beat writers Tweeted about it.

eli played his best game of the season yesterday - not perfect, but his decisions were a lot better and he was stepping up in the pocket and making some big time throws; he also did what i've been saying he lacked all season was scramble for some positive yardage when the defenders are playing man coverage on deeper routes and all the receivers are covered...better to get 5 yards and punt/putting the defense in a good position than make a risky throw. glad to hear he was bringing some intensity - he's a pretty even keeled guy so to see him show some anger/fire is actually a good thing.

What the hell was Murphy doing in the game at that point? And then to actually throw it to him? As Bill Parcells famously said, "Don't expect someone to do something they've never done before".
In the same vein, earlier in the game the Giants sent Bear Pascoe (yes Bear Pascoe) deep for a bomb. Read the Parcells quote above one more time.

No one quite knows what triggered a rare outward display of emotion from wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. He inexplicably took himself out of Sunday's game against the Packers on a play in which there was a miscommunication between his replacement, Louis Murphy, and Eli Manning that resulted in an interception.

Nah, I just came out, said Nicks, when asked if he left the game because his knee was bothering him. It was just one of those situations where I let `Murph go ahead and take that.

3rd down inside the 20 and nicks wanted out? Yeah... nothing wrong with his heart. He isn't even a top 50 WR this year. He truly bitched on us. Good riddance.

I love about ELi is taht he refused to throw LM under the bus in his post-game presser. He said "I threw it to the wrong team" in a joking manner. After a follow-up, He then went on to say that someimes the INT's are on him and sometimes other things happen. All he cares about is getting it right, blah blah blah w/ a long-winded answer that told us nothing, an art form he has mastered.

Yell at him privately and protect him publicly. That is a leader.
I like it.

AnishPatel : 11/18/2013 11:04 am : link
It's obvious he doesn't trust his players except for Cruz. Myers ran the wrong route and said after the game, Eli gave him an ear full. Meanwhile, Murphy messes up a hitch route! A HITCH ROUTE!!

Simply, high percentage passing concepts Eli is getting picked off on. Let's recap. A slant, Screen, and now a 5-6 yard hitch. All INTs! That's pathetic. No wonder Eli doesn't trust others. Those are easy high percentage plays and the fools aren't executing something so simply.

Why on gods green earth is Murphy drafting on a hitch route? Sometimes I wish Eli had Brady's personality and just rage on everyone on the sideline more often.

He should be doing this many games ago. I would snap too if I am Eli. Fucking 5 yard hitch and you get picked off because the fool drifts to the right.
Especially when they have no margin for error now.
Ten Ton Hammer : 11/18/2013 11:07 am : link
They have maybe 1 more loss as a buffer. That's it. You can't afford these mistakes anymore.

I am surprised he waited this long. I was hoping he would do this. You can only take so much stupid shit. On top of that, media experts and such ripping on Eli. Every broadcast mentions he leads the league in INTs. Then another stupid Int, where he gets picked off on a hitch route. Some of the stuff I have seen is flat out amazing this year. Picked off on a screen, slant, and now hitch. I can't believe that. It's a hitch, run it and turn around. Idiot drifts to the right.

We took away the option and choice routes on deeper passing concepts, but it doesn't mean shit if on shorter, high percentage routes someone is doing something else.

I was told by a BBI'er that Eli is suppose to know where the WR is going to be on every route he runs. Even ones where the WR improvises.

It's amazing how you and other people try to explain what option routes are, and how it fucks up when they arent on the same page.

Yet, as I predicted in the GT.... people still blasted Eli for that Eli. Even after the broadcasters, coaches, and Eli blamed Murphy.... people STILL blamed Eli. Just maddening.

How do you know we took away some of the option and choice routes?

I was encouraged by what I saw yesterday. It looks like little baby steps (due to the continued miscommunications) but I think they are beginning to gel out there on O. Hopefully they will continue to improve each passing week and we actually have a running game if Brown can stay healthy.
Glad to see Eli being a little more in your face with these guys...
Damon : 11/18/2013 11:22 am : link
They certainly haven't done him many favors this year.

While it's been his worst season since his rookie year... He's gotten very little help.

The sad thing is... these guys can run perfect routes the rest of the year... Nicks can man up and swallow everything thrown his way and it won't mean much if the O-Line doesn't start protecting better.

Every time he drops back to pass... I'm holding my breath.
Anish
GmenDynasty : 11/18/2013 11:27 am : link
My questions would be:

Why can't vet WR/TE's coming in from another system grasp this system? This isnt one or two guys here. Look at bennett last year. Heck even many of our 'home grown' guys take years to get it. Mario manningham, Jeremy Shockey,Jernigan, Amani at the beginning,Plax at the beginning.

The Nicks and Cruz types seem to be excpetions to the rules and even Cruz struggled bigtime early on with it.

If they have removed some choice routes from the deeper passing concepts that hopefully is a step in the right direction.

He has an idea, but in the end, just like everything in this offense, you need to be on the same page with the WR. That's the biggest issue. You need to be 100% on the same page with ZERO error. Why? Because if you're off by a mm, then that will result in a turnover. Where the WR does one thing, and the ball goes another way.

I am glad Eli went bat shit. A freaking int on a damn hitch route. He gets picked off on a hitch, slant, and screen. Obviously deep passes too. Bad decisions by Eli get picked off, and even balls of players shoes that pop up in the air. Hell of a fucking season when that shit happens. However, we are still in the playoff race which is amazing.

games into the season, eating more dirt and turf than maybe my rookie year due to a (fill in the blank)OL for almost 2 seasons, potentially getting into the record books for the opposite reason my brother will for TDs, with my number 1 WR clowning for Carolina, and starting TE and backup WR that have no idea what the diagrams in the playbook mean, with my D covering for the O's mistakes, but still with a chance to win the division after an 0-6 start, I might be coming in at game time with a bodyguard holding a baseball bat and letting my O teammates know, 'if you screw up, that bat will find you'.

My initial reaction was it was another miscomunication, but Moose was very quick to point out that it was 100% on Murphy running the wrong pattern. Watching it again, after Moose's explanation, it was very clear. This wasn't the usual "not on the same page". He said there was no read there; Murphy was just wrong. It certainly appeared that way.
