Funny how the Giants 6 loses do not look so bad now

giantfanboy : 11/18/2013 11:39 pm
looking back at our schedule suddenly our 6 losses make a bit of sense

Cowgirls 5 - 5
Carolina 7 -3
Broncos 9 -1
KC 9 - 1
Eagles 6- 5
Bears 6 - 4

Just like
jogo1 : 11/18/2013 11:43 pm : link
long winning streaks are impressive against any opponent, long losing streaks are the opposite.

It's any given Sunday...so if you can't capitalize on opportunities in 6 straight games, you're a bad team.

The defense stepped up enough in the past month to the point where this is no longer a bad team.
I have been thinking
oldutican : 11/18/2013 11:45 pm : link
the same thing. It's still really awful, but they were all tough opponents.
just looking back
giantfanboy : 11/18/2013 11:45 pm : link
we were suppose to have an easy schedule this year
at first it seems like we were blowing the easy part of our season
that was before
suddenly carolina and KC are very good
bears and eagles are good

If they'd won even one of those games
81_Great_Dane : 11/18/2013 11:45 pm : link
this season would look very different right now.
when youre the real
marc in easton : 11/18/2013 11:45 pm : link
Americas team, 6 game losing streaks are never a good look :)
That stupid fucking Cowboy game still bothers me.
arcarsenal : 11/18/2013 11:46 pm : link
6 turnovers. Gave that game away.

The Bears game too.

Oh well. Can't change the past. Just gotta keep winning now.
They'll look a lot worse...
Klaatu : 11/18/2013 11:48 pm : link
If the season ends and we don't make the playoffs...again...which is a distinct possibility.
it looks very bad
Blue Blood : 11/18/2013 11:49 pm : link
those Chicago Dallas and Philly losses could come back to bite the Giants in the butt later on in the case of tiebreakers..
I see what you're saying,
Mad Mike : 11/18/2013 11:52 pm : link
Carolina and Philly in particular looked pretty bad at the time, and now seem a lot more respectable. But starting 0-6 is pretty frigging bad no matter who you're playing.
You stole my thunder, fanboy ....
Manny in CA : 11/18/2013 11:52 pm : link
I've been thinking about posting something along the same line, good job !

Especially Denver, Carolina and KC. The last two, they've come out of the rubble to be very hard-nosed teams.
They got embarrassed a few times during that stretch.
Boy Cord : 11/19/2013 12:01 am : link
Flat out non-competitive embarrassed. I'm not going to rewrite hisyory. It was ugly.
this comeback still isn't legitimate
islander1 : 11/19/2013 12:04 am : link
until they beat the Cowboys next Sunday. They do that, and then we're one game out of first, and the temperature of the division will jump up a bit.
Eh, I don't why those losses don't look bad now.
Dave in Hoboken : 11/19/2013 12:04 am : link
The only really good teams on that list is Denver and KC. Dallas, Philly, and Chicago were all very winnable games, and none of those teams are in that upper echelon of teams right now. The Carolina game I have no idea what to make of. There's no way this team should have lost 38-0.

This. One could look at that six game stretch and think 3-3 would be an accomplishment, but 0-6 with some Gabbert Jaguars type performances is indefensible.
Dont forget
Neverend : 11/19/2013 12:06 am : link
4 of those 6 games were on the road.

AT Kansas city. AT Carolina. Hosting Denver, the best team in football.

they should've beaten dallas, should've beaten Chicago, and maybe there's an argument for philly. I have this feeling that if david Wilson were healthy, the giants would've beaten Chicago and perhaps rallied against Philadelphia. I know that sounds nuts given how most people probably view david Wilson as a player on bbi, but I truly believe it

Gilbride said it wasn't anticipated that Jacobs was going to be involved as much as he was in that eagles game. David Wilson was going to be a big part of that plan. Eli just missed him on a wheel route when it was like 2nd & 20 sometime in the first half. In the Chicago game, the holes were massive. It had nothing to do with reading holes or setting up blocks. There were open alleys all over that putrid banged up Chicago defense. David Wilson was going to have a breakout game. I'm positive on that one
I've always said .....
Manny in CA : 11/19/2013 12:26 am : link
The two most important players on the field are the QB on the offensive side of the ball ....

And the MLB on the defensive side.

Eli has struggled because his O-line has struggled.

The defense struggled because there was a gaping hole at MLB; Jon Beason got here, and everything got better (not a coincidence).

When Tom Landry invented the 4-3, he did so to take advantage of his ALL PRO MLB (Sam Huff). He already had a great defensive line, the rest is history.
as others have said
chris r : 11/19/2013 12:29 am : link
a) we got destroyed in several of those games
b) Dallas, Philly and Chicago aren't very good
c) Does this mean our 4 game win streak doesn't look good?
It's bad,
giantgiantfan : 11/19/2013 1:10 am : link
should've been able to get at least 1 win out of the Cowboys, Philly, or Da Bears.
frustrating..
Rsspro : 11/19/2013 1:20 am : link
we could have had the 1st game against the Cowboys when we lost by 5 after 6 turnovers..

and the Bears game was winnable.. definitely there for us to take.. I think we'd take that game now.. but who knows..
if we get to 6-2 at some point in this season...
SHO'NUFF : 11/19/2013 2:50 am : link
then we are right on track to where we're supposed to be...
meaning 6-2 in an 8 game span...
SHO'NUFF : 11/19/2013 2:51 am : link
because that has been our M.O. before we limp to the finish line.
Of those 6 losses ... The ONLY game ...
Mike in Raleigh : 11/19/2013 6:55 am : link
imo ... they were non-competitive in ... was the Carolina game. Agree?
If we beat the cowboys and Eagles
ZogZerg : 11/19/2013 6:56 am : link
they would be 4-6 and 5-6. Not "impressive" looking.
Evidence that one can convince themselves of anything
nyynyg : 11/19/2013 7:01 am : link
Go back and look at the tape, the team was downright awful in the first six games. Don't let the records of the teams we played fool you now, we were bad.
It is not funny...
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 11/19/2013 7:18 am : link
we should have been 3-3 after 6 games. Could have control of the division right now. Instead, we need to almost win out and/or need help from other teams.
We are the only under .500 team
tikimvp : 11/19/2013 8:02 am : link
not to have any losses vs. under .500 teams.
And again
Joey in VA : 11/19/2013 8:10 am : link
The notion that a schedule's strength can be gauged based on a previous year is proven ridiculous.

It happens EVERY YEAR and no one ever freaking learns. Each year is its own animal and it's impossible to determine before one game is played who has a tough schedule. Having the 2-14 Chiefs looked great back in August, but at 9-1 they're obviously a tough out. The Falcons are now doo doo, which was not supposed to be the case, the juggernaut Skins are suddenly not a 10 win media darling and on and on it goes.

The 6 losses look...
Chris in Philly : 11/19/2013 8:17 am : link
worse to me now. We win one or two and we are set up nicely for the second half. We dug ourselves a gigantic ditch to climb out of and it's not because those teams were all world beaters - we played like absolute shit.
Should be 7-3 now
NYerInMA : 11/19/2013 8:17 am : link
Should've beaten Dallas, Philly and Chicago, but those self-inflicted wounds were too much to overcome. Giants would have a 1.5-game lead (plus head-to-head tiebreaker over Philly) right now but for that.
It was a perfect storm
gmen9892 : 11/19/2013 9:48 am : link
For us earlier in the season. Injuries, sloppy play, getting new players acclimated, and a tough schedule. There is no shame in losing to the Broncos, Chiefs, and Panthers, two of those being on the road and with the Broncos (arguably the best team in the league) at home.

The other 3 losses were winnable games, and if we had won just one of them, we would be sitting in a good spot right now. But no use crying over spilled milk. We lost some winnable games earlier on, now we have no choice but to win some tough matchups going forward.

I'll grant you that maybe the Philly game plays out differently, but I can say with certainty we didnt miss Wilson in the Chicago game. That was perhaps our best running effort of the season... Jacobs was remarkable and single-handedly got us back in that game with some ferocious, inspiring physical runs.
Dont recriminate,
oldog : 11/19/2013 10:17 am : link
or rue the losses. The 07, 11, Super Bowl years were the years that set the rise from the dead , David and Goliath, improbable victory, mold. They were both so incredible and improbable that it seemed they could never be topped. Beat the undefeated in the Super Bowl. Win the Bowl at 9-7. Would you believe an 0-6 Super Bowl Champ. Why not.
One loss that does look a bit different in hindsight is Philly.
Big Blue Blogger : 11/19/2013 10:23 am : link
The Eagles aren't a particularly good team, but losing to Nick Foles turns out to be pretty normal.
.
arcarsenal : 11/19/2013 10:39 am : link
Jacobs was great against CHI.. I see Neverend's point, though. I think Wilson could have taken a couple of those runs to the house with all that space. Jacobs got into the open field a few times but he isn't fast enough or quick enough to make guys miss and outrun them.
The Bears game
deadkurtrulz : 11/19/2013 10:39 am : link
still bothers me. Missing Myers wide open at the 10 was bad enough but to have it become a game ending INT was a killer. Bears were not impressive at all. As bad as Giants were playing that should have been a win.
Bro
lugnut : 11/19/2013 10:43 am : link
38-0 is 38-0.
They didn't compete...
hitchchops : 11/19/2013 10:46 am : link
...for a full 60 minutes in many of those games, and that is still as ugly and disappointing now as it was when it happened. Also, let's not get carried away with the records of these teams, they have beat up tomato cans like the Giants to get those records, does not mean they are actually good...I submit the Chiefs are actually garbage, just a better brand of garbage than the Giants, but garbage nonetheless.
No.
BrettNYG10 : 11/19/2013 10:50 am : link
They do.
hahaha
Greg from LI : 11/19/2013 10:52 am : link
The Great Hokie Hype lives on in popular imagination. Yeah, man, that Bears game TOTALLY would have been his big breakout performance!

Andre Brown is so obviously the best RB in this organization.
No, it still looks bad
rsjem1979 : 11/19/2013 11:06 am : link
They gave away the Dallas game, they had chances to win against Denver, Philly and Chicago and found a way to lose all of them.

When the Giants are home in January because they lost this division by a game or by tiebreaker, that's what I'll remember.
What in tarnation is a 'Lose"
ShocknAwe80 : 11/19/2013 11:48 am : link
Lose is not a noun it's a verb!!!
I definitely agree with those that

look at the season opener as the true stumble. Had the Giants won that game...
This team was wounded
PEEJ : 11/19/2013 12:07 pm : link
coming out of pre-season. Snee, Diehl, Hynoski, A. Brown, Hill, JPP all out. No Beason and Conner. 1/3 of the starting line-up unavailable.
Dude, c'mon, just look at the bears game two days vs baltimore
Neverend : 11/19/2013 7:21 pm : link
entertaing that game, on a HISTORICAL level, the ravens had one of the most statistically worst yards per carry averages in the prestigious 91 year history of the NFL. They came into the game averaging 2.7 yds per carry, that may challenge a mark not seen in the NFL in nearly 60 years

and in predictable fashion against the worst rush defense in the NFL, the ravens rushing attack had a breakout performance, just like the Giants did. Rice had a 130 yd game on 25 carries, averaging 2.5 yds per carry coming into that game. The man literally joked that he didn't know what to do seeing holes that big against that bears defense. Did you see the green bay Monday night game against Chicago? Fuck sake

It is ignorant and irresponsible to say David Wilson couldn't have done anything against that front. As I said, the holes the giants ran through had nothing to do with reading holes and setting up blocks, the shit was wide open. David Wilson easily could have had his best game of the season. There might've 2 or 3 occasions where if Jacobs was able to make that safety miss it would've been even larger gains. That Chicago defense is playing journeymen at DT with a bunch of rookie linebackers too. They are terrible.

But I get it. David Wilson sucks. Lets ignore the skills he showed in his rookie year taking advantage of holes. Against one of the worst rush defenses in the league, wilson Would've crashed and burned to the line of scrimmage. yeah, yeah. it is what it is. hes going to get trashed on BBI until the 2014 season begins. its gonna be a long offseason. theres no sense in defending him really
David Wilson
bignygfan : 11/20/2013 2:26 am : link
would have had 300 yards against the Bears if Jacobs had 130

BUT ...

they also may have stripped him a few times.
