Carolina and Philly in particular looked pretty bad at the time, and now seem a lot more respectable. But starting 0-6 is pretty frigging bad no matter who you're playing.
The only really good teams on that list is Denver and KC. Dallas, Philly, and Chicago were all very winnable games, and none of those teams are in that upper echelon of teams right now. The Carolina game I have no idea what to make of. There's no way this team should have lost 38-0.

I have this feeling that if david Wilson were healthy, the giants would've beaten Chicago and perhaps rallied against Philadelphia. Eli just missed him on a wheel route when it was like 2nd & 20 sometime in the first half. In the Chicago game, the holes were massive. It had nothing to do with reading holes or setting up blocks. There were open alleys all over that putrid banged up Chicago defense. David Wilson was going to have a breakout game. I'm positive on that one

Eli has struggled because his O-line has struggled.
The defense struggled because there was a gaping hole at MLB; Jon Beason got here, and everything got better (not a coincidence).
When Tom Landry invented the 4-3, he did so to take advantage of his ALL PRO MLB (Sam Huff). He already had a great defensive line, the rest is history.

Go back and look at the tape, the team was downright awful in the first six games. Don't let the records of the teams we played fool you now, we were bad.

The notion that a schedule's strength can be gauged based on a previous year is proven ridiculous.
It happens EVERY YEAR and no one ever freaking learns. Each year is its own animal and it's impossible to determine before one game is played who has a tough schedule. Having the 2-14 Chiefs looked great back in August, but at 9-1 they're obviously a tough out. The Falcons are now doo doo, which was not supposed to be the case, the juggernaut Skins are suddenly not a 10 win media darling and on and on it goes.
worse to me now. We win one or two and we are set up nicely for the second half. We dug ourselves a gigantic ditch to climb out of and it's not because those teams were all world beaters - we played like absolute shit.

For us earlier in the season. Injuries, sloppy play, getting new players acclimated, and a tough schedule. There is no shame in losing to the Broncos, Chiefs, and Panthers, two of those being on the road and with the Broncos (arguably the best team in the league) at home.
The other 3 losses were winnable games, and if we had won just one of them, we would be sitting in a good spot right now. But no use crying over spilled milk. We lost some winnable games earlier on, now we have no choice but to win some tough matchups going forward.
I have this feeling that if david Wilson were healthy, the giants would've beaten Chicago and perhaps rallied against Philadelphia.
I'll grant you that maybe the Philly game plays out differently, but I can say with certainty we didnt miss Wilson in the Chicago game. That was perhaps our best running effort of the season... Jacobs was remarkable and single-handedly got us back in that game with some ferocious, inspiring physical runs.
or rue the losses. The 07, 11, Super Bowl years were the years that set the rise from the dead , David and Goliath, improbable victory, mold. They were both so incredible and improbable that it seemed they could never be topped. Beat the undefeated in the Super Bowl. Win the Bowl at 9-7. Would you believe an 0-6 Super Bowl Champ. Why not.
One loss that does look a bit different in hindsight is Philly.
Jacobs was great against CHI.. I see Neverend's point, though. I think Wilson could have taken a couple of those runs to the house with all that space. Jacobs got into the open field a few times but he isn't fast enough or quick enough to make guys miss and outrun them.
still bothers me. Missing Myers wide open at the 10 was bad enough but to have it become a game ending INT was a killer. Bears were not impressive at all. As bad as Giants were playing that should have been a win.
...for a full 60 minutes in many of those games, and that is still as ugly and disappointing now as it was when it happened. Also, let's not get carried away with the records of these teams, they have beat up tomato cans like the Giants to get those records, does not mean they are actually good...I submit the Chiefs are actually garbage, just a better brand of garbage than the Giants, but garbage nonetheless.
entertaing that game, on a HISTORICAL level, the ravens had one of the most statistically worst yards per carry averages in the prestigious 91 year history of the NFL. They came into the game averaging 2.7 yds per carry, that may challenge a mark not seen in the NFL in nearly 60 years
and in predictable fashion against the worst rush defense in the NFL, the ravens rushing attack had a breakout performance, just like the Giants did. Rice had a 130 yd game on 25 carries, averaging 2.5 yds per carry coming into that game. The man literally joked that he didn't know what to do seeing holes that big against that bears defense. Did you see the green bay Monday night game against Chicago? Fuck sake
It is ignorant and irresponsible to say David Wilson couldn't have done anything against that front. As I said, the holes the giants ran through had nothing to do with reading holes and setting up blocks, the shit was wide open. David Wilson easily could have had his best game of the season. There might've 2 or 3 occasions where if Jacobs was able to make that safety miss it would've been even larger gains. That Chicago defense is playing journeymen at DT with a bunch of rookie linebackers too. They are terrible.
But I get it. David Wilson sucks. Lets ignore the skills he showed in his rookie year taking advantage of holes. Against one of the worst rush defenses in the league, wilson Would've crashed and burned to the line of scrimmage. yeah, yeah. it is what it is. hes going to get trashed on BBI until the 2014 season begins. its gonna be a long offseason. theres no sense in defending him really
It's any given Sunday...so if you can't capitalize on opportunities in 6 straight games, you're a bad team.
