Players Who Catch Your Eye: Will Hill

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/22/2013 10:23 am
Ever since Will Hill started playing for the Giants last season, he's one of those guys who simply make me think, "that guy is a football player." Each game now, he catches my attention with something he does on the football field. If he keeps his nose clean, I really think he can become a very good player for a long time. And I think he could have a huge game on Sunday.
He's a playmaker looking to
Randy in CT : 11/22/2013 10:23 am : link
nail someone or get the ball for a score. Beason too.
Agree
GIANTSr01 : 11/22/2013 10:26 am : link
even in his 1st game back from suspension, when you'd think he'd be rusty, he was flying around making plays. The kid has a nose for the football. If he can stay clean, I think he has pro-bowl potential.
He's been an excellent payer for us when on the field.
Ace718 : 11/22/2013 10:27 am : link
I hope he stays out of trouble because he's a legit starting safety on this team next season.
and I don't think it's a coincidence
GIANTSr01 : 11/22/2013 10:27 am : link
that Rolle's best stretch of football as a Giant has come since Hill's return.

I didn't understand why people thought Hill was going to get cut this year. I thought he flashed a lot last year. There was a reason why the the Giants held onto him despite the off field issues. The guy can flat out ball.. he flies around and makes plays.

He has been a sparkplug and he added a dimension to this defense that we didn't have.
I agree. I really liked him last year.I hope he can keep his

life in order because he can play. And isn't a one-dimensional player. He hits hard and tackles well, and can also be a ball hawker. An every down, throwback type of safety.

It was definitely mind boggling to see people suggest the Giants keep Sash ahead of Will Hill. Bizarre moment on BBI.
He stands out in a way Phillips rarely did
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 11/22/2013 10:36 am : link
Phillips stood out just for being reliable, big, and athletic. He'd also lay some hits every now and then. Phillips was a very solid and consistent player for us when he was healthy.

But Will Hill just looks like a playmaker. Just a heavy hitter who can also play the pass, and he has an attitude about him that this D needs more of. I'm a big fan of this guy and really excited about his future.

Some folks don't pay a lot of attention to what's actually going on in the games...

Just like folks wanting to put Stevie in the HOF based on his pics from last year...sure he had a ton of pics, but the guy seemingly was never where he was supposed to be.

When there was a big play on Webster last year, and he'd be looking around for where his help went, you could almost always count on it being Brown that he was looking for.

New Jersey's own!

There was a reason Will Hill
LauderdaleMatty : 11/22/2013 10:51 am : link
Had over 60 scholarship offers and started playing at UF as a true Frosh. His problems were obviously maturity related. He was a real dumb ass but not in the Aaron Hernandez way.

He's a freak and if Brown doesn't go down this season and he doesn't get suspended the beginning of this year might have been markedly different.

As Giant fans we need to hope he keeps himself to tether because he has all pro potential IMO.
For all the shit that Reese gets
Jay on the Island : 11/22/2013 11:04 am : link
Look at some of the great finds he has made. Getting two young stars in Cruz and Hill is incredible when you think about it. Not to mention signing Connor off the scrap heap and trading a 7th round pick for Beason.
Sorry Conner
Jay on the Island : 11/22/2013 11:05 am : link
Not Connor.
a lot of the shit Reese got was out of frustration for the 0-6 start
GIANTSr01 : 11/22/2013 11:10 am : link
but he's also partly/largely to blame for the poor state of the OL. You can't blame him for Baas' injuries, but not having replacements ready for Snee/Diehl as their performance has declined with aging/injuries is unacceptable. Brewer is looking like a bust and Mosley can't even beat him out for the "extra TE".

He also deserves blame for the awful LB play before Beason arrived.
He's very good
Kyle in NY : 11/22/2013 11:22 am : link
He just plays faster than a lot of guys on our team capable of.

Now we need someone to follow him around and keep him away from the #sour.
I'm high on Will Hill, too.
Klaatu : 11/22/2013 11:44 am : link

Hill has PB potential, the kid just needs to stay clean.
Geeman : 11/22/2013 11:49 am : link
I think he plays a big game on Sunday.
If Brown comes back healthy, who starts?
Rolle is a lock so between Hill and Brown?
I'd have to say Hill.
Hill has that
gmen99 : 11/22/2013 11:57 am : link
closing speed and ability to violently tackle bigger players a la Bob Sanders or Troy Polamalu. Not saying he's as good of an overall player, but he clearly has that element to his game.
Enough dumping on Stevie Brown
Ten Ton Hammer : 11/22/2013 12:10 pm : link
As much as people on here yell about him not being where he's supposed to be(which still seems like more opinion that fact to me. I haven't seen anything from the writers or coaches to support that) the coaches liked him a lot and said they liked him a lot.

Or he just scammed the Giants into paying him $2m this year.
Who dumped on Brown???
Geeman : 11/22/2013 12:13 pm : link
I asked a legit question that could be a good problem heading into 2014. I like Brown, but if it comes down to Hill vs Brown, Hill is the better player, with the higher upside. There's no shame in that cause Hill is the real deal.
I don't know about Stevie Brown
BlackLight : 11/22/2013 12:16 pm : link
"never being where he's supposed to be," but I do think that a lot of his INTs last season were "right place, right time."

Obviously, it makes no difference in the moment, but if I'm right, then we can't consider it predictive of his future playmaking ability. Every now and then, somebody just has a freak year where everything breaks his way. Maybe last season was Steve Brown's year.
Rolle is not a lock
M in CT : 11/22/2013 12:17 pm : link
due to the salary he commands. good player, but he's wayyyyy overpaid compared with other similar safeties around the league.

i would not be surprised at all to see Will Hill/Stevie Brown as the starters next year if Rolle refuses to take a pay cut or restructure.
I've been amazed at how sure of a tackler he is
Bino5 : 11/22/2013 12:34 pm : link
combined with how quickly he closes.

He is fun to watch on special teams too. He absolutely lays people out.
Hill returning from suspension
Don in DC : 11/22/2013 1:08 pm : link
and Beason's signing are the two primary causes for our D's turnaround, IMO. He has been great.
He's definitely a gem
Sneakers O'toole : 11/22/2013 1:10 pm : link
but he's got to keep his priorities straight, no more suspensions.
Rolle is a very important player to this team.
Geeman : 11/22/2013 1:26 pm : link
Both on and off as a vocal leader. he will be brought back and he will want to be back. There's not some pot of gold waiting for him in the league somewhere at this stage of his career. You can count on him being back as a Captain agan next season along with Beason.
Brown's a FA after this year
GIANTSr01 : 11/22/2013 1:37 pm : link
so it's far from a lock that he'll return. If he does, I think it's as the 3rd safety.

As for Rolle, I think he signs a 2-3 year extension this offseason which lowers his 2014 cap number.

was working with him when he was out of football for a year and told the Giants he had Pro Bowl potential
If we can somehow get our front four to beat the guy in front of them
Damon : 11/22/2013 2:22 pm : link
and start wreaking havoc like before, this D can be a very special unit. If Tuck, JPP and Co. start getting closer faster, guys like Hill and Rolle are going to score...
brown in the right place at right time
giantgiantfan : 11/22/2013 5:16 pm : link
at some point it stops becoming coincidence. His last play before his injury he was once again in the right place at the right time for another pick. Dude is legit.
Wow - I cant ever remember a more popular player on BBI
Neverend : 11/22/2013 6:18 pm : link
For as long as ive been here. I seriously can not recall.

The start of something special> Will be a starter in this league for a long time. Perennial pro bowler. All-Pro candidate. Oh my. This is extremely impressive. The most shocking part is how unanimous these opinions are too.

I like it
Neverend, JPP?

I stand corrected.
if Antrel keeps playing like this
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 11/22/2013 6:40 pm : link
you have to find a way to keep him. Rolle + Hill is one of the best Giants safety combos in recent memory, atleast based on their current level of play.
Rolle-Hill
BillyBoy8384 : 11/22/2013 7:25 pm : link
Now they will be a candidate for best Safety - Combo and were missing Stevie Brown which is keeping us out of the 3 safety look too dont forget. # players who the Giants should keep and Hill should give the Giants a hometown discount because they could have dumped him after that suspension. He was Jersey's Football Player of the Year in HS and one of the biggest recruits in the country. Hes finally showing that true potential
* oops

3 players the Giants should keep- Rolle-Hill-Brown
