"It's fair to ask whether this is the same Hakeem Nicks that we saw earlier in his career," said John Lynch, a former NFL defensive back and current analyst for Fox Sports. "For whatever reason, he isn't having the same impact." .... Nevertheless, removing Nicks from the starting lineup is a move the Giants must consider. "There comes a time when, if a guy isn't producing, it's time to sit him down," said Lynch. "In the NFL, what you've done in the past only counts for so much." |
Eli gets all kinda excuses made for his play when it deteriorates but few seem to cut Nicks the same slack. Why?
Nicks' game is darn physical, so I think it's natural that defenders will get away with more PI on him than on other, less physical, WRs. But to my eyes this year it was often blatant, but uncalled.
The other players must also know that Nicks is playing not to get hurt. That can't be good for the team.
So, at this point, whats really to lose by sitting him? Randle isnt a huge drop off from the old Nicks, and he's sometimes a big step up from the current Nicks. I know he's not as good as Nicks when Nicks was great, but Nicks hasn't been great this season. Honestly, I think the Giants really mishandled the Nicks situation.
I know he's not doing much in Carolina but that's a diff team that doesn't know how to utilize him
Lynch is easily confused these days....too many tackles leading with the helmet.
Murphy and Randle...on outside
And 80 and 88 in slot...
Cruz and nicks are possession
Big play after catch guys.. not
Speed guys...randle and murphy
Can go deep...while 80 and 88
Get doubled..throw Murphy a
Couple deep routes...he's on a 1
Year contract and hasnt played
Randle, even with his on/off issues with mentally grasping the offense, appears to be the better player of the two right now and he's the future for this team. This team won't do it, but a more... let's say cold team absolutely would strongly consider promoting him to "starter" snaps very soon, if not already.
we'll likely get more insight at the end of the season or during the off season
I think so too.

/agree
Jernigans - 8 catches
Murphy - 1 catch
Hixon - 3 catches
I always though Hixon was a gamer too but it would not have made any difference.
