Nicks in real danger of missing game today

Josh in the City : 11/24/2013 12:17 pm
Surprised that I didn't see it posted but if I missed it, I'll delete:

Quote:
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning that Hakeem Nicks (questionable, groin) is indeed in danger of missing Week 12.
Per Schefter, Nicks has a strained abdominal muscle, and Schefter received a text message from someone presumably associated with the Giants who said it "might not be looking good" for Nicks to play against the Cowboys. Nicks' absence would be a major matchup upgrade for upstart third receiver Rueben Randle, and a blow to Eli Manning's Week 12 fantasy football outlook. The Giants and Cowboys don't play until 4:25PM ET Sunday afternoon.

I'm not sure how much either team is going to be able to throw the ball downfield.

Dallas is allowing close to 5 YPC on the ground this year and more than any other team in football. Might be a good day to feed Dre and Big Jake and just pound the crap out of them.

Nicks will play and be more valuable than anyone else in his spot.Demarco Murray is a tough back. Jacobs has surprised me but he's still averaging under three yards. Hope Myers gets into the mix like last week. Is JPP really breaking out? Romo can throw a lot of dunks to his receivers as well as go long. Really gets the ball out quickly. Be great if we win..

It's the players and coaches who matter. Nicks playing as a decoy would be sufficient today, especially with regard to the weather conditions. He would help more as a decoy, than Jernigan or Murphy would helping to take his place.
All in, baby.
arcarsenal : 11/24/2013 12:59 pm : link
There is no tomorrow if we don't win today. The Giants know they can do this.. just go out and execute. Just can't beat ourselves.

If they don't win today's games, then it would feel like the last 4
Optimus-NY : 11/24/2013 1:04 pm : link
victories will have been for naught. If they lose today, the Giants would be 4-7, and be two games back of the lead with 5 to play. If Dallas sweeps the season series with the Giants, then it would effectively be 3 games back due to head-to-head tie-breakers. Absolute must-win today if the Giants are serious about winning the division.

abuse Nicks takes here is unreal. He is a warrior who has played through many injuries in the past. If he's hurt, he's hurt. His frustration is the realization that his injuries may already be catching up to him, and that he probably won't get the big FA contract he wanted, either from the Giants or someone else.

Today is a running day anyway. It's going to be no more than thirty degrees at game time, with twenty-five mile an hour winds. Nobody is throwing the ball down the field. Our running attack has come alive, and the Cowboys can't stop the run.

He wasn't on Wednesday's pre-practice injury report. Not listed at all.

Then on Thursday, Nicks says his agent told him to get his stomach checked out.

Coughlin on Thursday: "They say its better to explain it as an abdominal, whatever that means."

Nicks on Friday, are you playing: "C'mon, it's Dallas."

The offense has all sucked this year,
Reese's Pieces : 11/24/2013 2:59 pm : link

Even in that first Eagles game, he had that pathetic quit on a route
Riggies : 11/24/2013 3:01 pm : link
which caused an INT.

Frankly, other than this season's opener, there isn't much he's done since getting stepped on last season by the Bucs that is going to help him in FA.

Something about this situation reeks, I agree, but if he has checked out, he's basically just pissing away more money at this point and certainly not saving or earning himself any.
Reese's

Don't forget the lemmings follow your lead.

That is your opinion that Nick was sulking on the sidelines,
Reese's Pieces : 11/24/2013 3:05 pm : link
and that he quit on the route leading to the interception and that he hasn't gotten separation this year. You see what you want to see.

You are also making the determination that he's dogging it by not playing today without any medical report.

Have you missed most of the discussions on this board? Giants fans outside of this place? The media, locally and nationally? He has his legion of excuse-makers sure, but by and large, the QB has and continues to take plenty (most) of blame for this mess.

People acting as though Nicks is getting singled out and scapegoated for the entire team's/offense's failures are honestly starting to venture into Diehl fanboy territory.
Why would someone shut it down during a contract year?
vibe4giants : 11/24/2013 3:06 pm : link
Isn't that usually the year they play light out. In an effort to, you know, get as big a contract as possible? (And then take it easy.)

I don't recall a player trying to string together a couple of underwhelming, injury plagued years as part of the whole strategy to get paid.

Another theory: the guy who had been plagued by injuries much of career is--get this--injured.
Reese's Pieces
Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/24/2013 3:07 pm : link
No, it's not, Coughlin was pissed at Nicks after the Eagles game. See his post-game press conferences. And there were plenty of articles this week about Nicks on the sidelines and Jacobs having to give him a pep talk.
Plain logic says that it is in Nick's self-interest to have the best

Riggies
Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/24/2013 3:08 pm : link
no one has singled out Nicks for the Giants problems this year. Almost everyone on this board has blamed Eli, the OL, and the coaches.

The articles? The people who create controversy for a living?

Reese's Pieces
Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/24/2013 3:09 pm : link
Yup, but Nicks skipped all of the offseason work, didn't he?

That would have helped him out this year, wouldn't have it?

Again, coaches and Eli talked this week about Nicks missing the offseason work.
And why would his agent encourage such a foolhardy 'strategy'?
vibe4giants : 11/24/2013 3:10 pm : link
Nicks 'shutting down' would be costing both of them money.

Makes no sense.
Rob
Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/24/2013 3:10 pm : link
so you are saying that Nicks didn't quit running that route against Philly? Or he didn't take himself out of the game last Sunday? And you are saying the sideline stuff was made up by the reporters? OK.
I agree that Nicks shutting it down unless it's a serious injury
jcn56 : 11/24/2013 3:10 pm : link
is going to hurt his chances at a big payday, but I still wouldn't be surprised regardless. It could be that there's something psychological sticking to Nicks and he just figures that he's better off not taking the field than taking it and continuing to put up shitty numbers or not have the ball thrown to him.

Sucks, but Nicks hasn't been much of a producer thus far this year, and while taking him off the field is a negative I'm not sure how big a negative it is at this point, especially if he's just mentally not there.

Rob_MTL : 11/24/2013 3:13 pm : link

Right. If he just doesn't want to be out there, the Giants are better with him not out there. And they're better still with a full understanding of his mental status before considering off-season contract negotiations.

No one on this site has ever said the OL wasn't the main problem. Everyone also knows Eli has had a bad year, RBs got hurt/played poorly, TE's mediocre, et.

But Nicks hasn't been Nicks all year.
If Nicks hearing all year long that he sucks, that he's doggin' it,
Reese's Pieces : 11/24/2013 3:18 pm : link
that he's lost a stop, that he should be traded for anything they can get for him, that he hasn't scored a TD, finds himself open again without the ball being thrown to him, and took off one play because of it, is that quitting on the team?

Is he the first receiver to do this? And we still don't know if he skipped the play for a legit reason: needed a breather or banged up something.

You're not actually defending him by bringing that stuff up; you're making him sound like he's mentally weak.

He is not a dependable player, it does not matter if he is hurt or not, if he is a warrior, which I do not see at all, or if he is, it is always an issue with him ,and he simply has stunk this year and stunk last year and I do not want him back at all, why would we want him back, he is not dependable.
