I think I'm just going to pretend he and the rest of the offensive players are trying to over-throw Gilbride in "silent" protest with their terrible play.
He has to be making and counting against the cap at a 12-14 million rate. Not 20+. If he wants to continue to make 20+ million, i would move on-let him try to find that deal on the market.
- James Brewer is not a professional football player
- David Diehl is no longer a professional football player
- Will Beatty is playing worse than any Giants I've ever seen after getting a contract extension
- Kevin Boothe is serviceable on his best days, mediocre the majority of them
- Justin Pugh is good.
The Giants have 1 offensive lineman playing at an average level. They have a system that requires WRs to read the defense and often leads to "miscommunication", especially with younger/inexperienced players. And Eli's always thrown a lot of picks, even when he was in college. Plus, they cannot run the football at all.
However, I'm very confident a new coaching staff could turn Eli around. Look at Phillip Rivers as the prime example. People were killing him last season and now he's playing great with nearly the same exact collection of players around him. The Giants need to improve the o-line, but there's other talented players around the QB.
you're just looking to spin something that's not there.
When the QB plays awful football... the WRs suffer. Look at Larry Fitzgerald. Look at Dwayne Bowe in recent seasons.
Nicks and Cruz have had down years... in large part because Eli has had the worst season of his career.
I do hope Eli makes worth his contract next year... trust me i do. I dont like Losing any more than anyone else... but another season of this QB play? Would be time to start over...
And his fumble was the single worst play/mistake of the Dallas game.
I'm not remotely blaming him for Eli's struggles and he's not been close to the worst offender amongs the pass catchers on this team, but he shouldn't get a pass anymore either. He's not really played well since the beginning of the season.

See this is what I cant understand or fathom from people who actually have knowledge of sports.
Has Eli been good this year? Of course not. Its been his worst year since his rookie year. I think its more mental than physical. He's a little shell shocked from the bad OLine and rough start. I do not disagree he needs to be beter. He has too.
But to say Nicks and Cruz have suffered because of his play. Why cant Eli suffer from THEIR play. I have pointed out on NUMEROUS occasions that Cruz has not been able to beat double teams. He got owned by Orlando Scandrick. He couldnt break free from Perry f'n Riley last week in which he had a TD. He has dropped a few TDs this year as well. Obviously, the decline of Nicks has forced team to stopping him.
Now Nicks has been the biggest disappointment of the team. Today was probably one of his best games since week 1-2. However, he has quit on routes, he is not getting any spearation, he has dropped a ton of passes, and he is not making plays whatsoever.
Its been a total shitshow b/w Eli, Nicks, and Cruz this year. Throw in the inconsistent play of Randle, and its a total shitshow. But placing the blame on Eli for Cruz/Nicks number is such a cop out. They all have disappointed.
throwing a timing route or back shoulder to Murphy Jr.? He is god awful!! That's two picks intended to LM. I am starting to dislike Randle as well. Fucking guy is a walking turnover. Nicks is invisible and Myers has to learn to come back to the ball. This offense is god awful.
Mr. Elite shouldn't be playing like Brandon Weedon. There is no offensive system on earth that can survive poor decisions with the football, skittishness in the pocket and poor passing.
And agree that Wrs can help qbs look good and qbs can make Wrs look good. And both the Wrs and the qbs and the Rbs need the oline to block. And let's get even crazier and say that the skill players and QB can sometimes even make the OL look good.
No one is helping anyone look good on this team. The team has little to no room for error. In 2011 the OL wasn't great but it was just good enough to allow Eli and the skill players to flourish. This year the OL struggled and the skill players are a little less explosive probably and Eli is getting hit more... It's just off. One thing hasn't changed though, the offense still turns it over a ton. That's the only constant with this regime.
we need to extend him for the cap space, but how do you extend him after a year like this? What will his contract expectations be?
Honestly, he should try to find something team friendly just to keep from getting himself killed back there, take a bit less and have them pick up a guard with the savings.

I don't disagree with this in principle, and I'm one of Eli's biggest supporters, HOWEVER - he's the top paid guy on the squad and the expectations on him are rightfully greater than everyone else, and he simply hasn't delivered on those expectations this year. Not that all those reasons for underperformance aren't valid, but he's never risen above and carried the team when needed this season. It might sound unfair to expect it of him (and he has done it in the past, we don't win XLVI otherwise), but when you're paid at that rate then expectations tend to border on unrealistic.
Right now Eli is one of the worst QB's in the league
bad decision making ,poor accuracy, forcing passes and slow on his feet. I see a lot of younger better guys coming around and leaving Eli in the dust. The league is changing and you better be deadly accurate and make quick wise choices if you are going to be a statue back there.
he is as streaky as it gets. There will be runs of games where he looks like the best qb in the league and other runs when he looks like Brandon Weedon. He's tough to figure.
I don't think there is much choice- you have to extend him to get room under the cap; we can't keep operating like this, and hope for the best.
looking all world for the first six games or so. He was sharp and the ball was on the receiver as soon as they turned their heads. Coming off a SB MVP many Giant fans believed Eli had turned the corner on his previous inconsistencies and had become a top five monster QB. I was one of those people.
Since then he has regressed pitifully. It started the moment Nicks ceased to be an impact WR last year and it has gotten worse as the OL disintegrated this year. Now Eli plays with NO confidence at all. He rarely throws the ball on time and in stride. Everything is late, high, and behind his target. Does not even resemble the QB that started last year.
The OL has to be rebuilt and Eli has to rebuild his reputation. He has been both great and awful in the past. The Giants need to know who he will be going forward.
When people say "on the plays even when Eli has time...",
they need to understand there's a cumulative effect to the hits a QB takes/poor o-line play. The 50% of the time when there's a breakdown seriously affects the other 50% when there isn't. I'm reminded of the game the Giants played at New England in 2011. The Giants were getting constant pressure on Tom Brady. On one play with no one around him and a totally clean pocket, he ducked. There was no one there and he ducked a non-existent pass rusher.
You simply can't separate the plays with and without pressure. QBs start rushing throws and not going through their progressions. It's why rushing the passer is so important.
this offensive system has been in place for an eternity. IT's not like this is some new system that Eli and WRs are trying to pick up. Everyone should know their place by now. Everyone should know what they are doing by now.
So with that said, maybe the league has figured out the Giants offense and even with the communication breakdowns and occasional fuck ups out of Eli, things are still broken. And no matter how improved the OL and WRs and RBs are in 2014, the offense is still doomed.
Or it could just be the OL was so shaky early on that it shattered the offense's confidence and ability to function, Eli included. The perfect storm of bad OL play, bad injury luck (Brown and Wilson) and bad karma just torpedoed this offense. With a better OL and healthy RB everything goes back to normal in 2014. Back to 400+ pts of offense and the usual high number of turnovers. Not perfect but definitely productive and possibly championship caliber.
Or, Eli is not the same QB with his peak (2008-2011 in the rear view mirror and no matter what this staff or any staff does the Giants are in big trouble.
Eli, Cruz, and Nicks seem to always know where to be. It is the rest of the offense that has issues with making the right reads from the OL with blocking assignments to other receivers and route running.
You can't defend this year. At all.
Sadly, though, they will not succeed.
This. FTW.
In any event when we simplify the playbook next year i look forward to greatness.
It's not me... its everyone else.
To Eli's credit at least, he isnt out there making all the incredible excuses depz makes on a weekly basis for him
Right, MaB?
With that said, do i belive an elite QB could make Cruz top 5? Yes, yes I do.
I think since Cruz has been bottled up by scrub CBs and LBs the last few weeks, I think he could be top 5 too, say if DEs and DTs covered him.

Cruz has been awful the last 5-6 weeks. If you cant get open against LBs and scrub CBs - you cant blame the QB.

He has 1 TD in 12 games. I wouldnt call him overrated or shit. Ill call it disappointing though.
Lous Murphy has been thrown too 5 times this year, 3 of the plays have resulted in turnovers. (2 INTs and a fumble loss).

Stop defending Eli! He is a straight-up bum who has turned into one of the most sackables QB in the league.

2nd one was on him. But again, they are down 23 inside 2 minutes. It made no difference.
yep.
Honestly I'm surprised it's only 20, he was on pace for well... alot. I think 10 after 3 weeks?

Take your pick....
yep... bingo. JR let the line atrophy, and Pugh while good was too little too late. Gotta fix that line.
