Honestly, I think Eli is finished

giantsin2011 : 12/9/2013 12:10 pm
A lot of people think this is crazy but some player just fall off a cliff for no reason. I watch his play this year and it's apparent that he can't make the throws that he used to. He always had a strong arm but the hail mary attempt yesterday was alarming. Even in the past when he had problems with turnovers, he still made a lot of "wow" throws. This year I can't remember a single play or throw he made that impressed me.

Also, you have to factor in the fact that he is a very wealthy guy with a wife and two kids now. Personally, I don't think that he wants to get hit anymore and the game of football might be too brutal for him now. You can see it in the way he plays. He used to have great pocket presence was was tougher to bring down than you think, even though he wasn't mobile. This year he's a complete statue and not just any regular statue but a paper statue. He goes down when there is a player that sneezes on him, it is sad to watch. It doesn't make him less of a person though and I still respect him for what he has down for us. However, I think that he no longer has that fire in his belly anymore to be that top tier quarterback we need but he has too much pride to admit that.
I can think of a few "wow" throws

last nights game, we seemed to revert to the offensive scheme that let us down in the first 6 weeks. lots of late developing routes. This led to Eli constantly being under pressure and not looking as elite as he used to.

in the games we won, i felt our offence became more similar to that of the chiefs, much less home run plays, and as a result eli looked better.

ill admit some of his throws have been off this year, but i think alot of that is confidence, not lack of fire in the belly or anything

This site has the ability to throw coaches and all other players under the bus, but not Eli. That said, you're right on the $$. His physical deficiencies are glaring (including arm, accuracy, strength, any mobility whatsoever). His mental breakdowns (bad throws, poor clock mgmt)and lack of courage (bailing out while throwing the ball and little in the way of willingness to break a tackle -- i.e. the one vs Minny which was laughable) are even worse.

Eli has 20 INTS so far in 454 attempts. In 86, Simms had 22 in 468 attempts.

Please. Enough with this childish notion. Every week there are posts complaining that Eli is above criticism, while everyone else is fair game. Then there are posts complaining Coughlin is above reproach, while everyone else is fair game. Then there are threads that complain about Gilbride, etc.

Everyone has been criticized here. The bottom line is, this team has played so poorly that it is virtually impossible to pinpoint blame on any one player/coach.

But I also will not chalk this up as some lost season to forget about it either. There are some bad signs this season with Eli Manning. I hope he can correct them moving forward, because he isn't going anywhere.
Eli's arm is fine.

In fact, he's mechanically better than he was a few years ago. He's suffering from Carritis, a curable disease if caught early enough, caused mostly by excessive heat and pressure being allowed to penetrate through his protective barrier.

do the "bail throw" as we see weekly by Eli? I don't. Ever see other QBs, esp ones that are 6'5" and 230+ get thrown down with such ease (most notably the humiliating reach around sack by Jared Allen)?
I completely disagree on the arm strength issue
CMicks3110 : 12/9/2013 12:25 pm : link
Eli has always topped out at about 55 yards, and i've watched many games on NFL.com going back the last couple of years, and he has always maxed out around 55-56 yards as long as I can remember. Up until this year. In the Philly game this year, he threw a couple of balls 60+. The hail mary to Nicks, was from the NYG 41 yard line to the SD 4 yard line, 55 yards, and he threw that on a high arc, so that it would be easier to catch. In the philly home game earlier this year, i'm fairly certain he threw a few balls 60+ on a line, which was as impressive a distance throw as i've seen from him. I'm trying to load the video but its not downloading on NFL.com. But go back and look. Denver game too, he threw some real long passes. I don't think arm strength is an issue at all.

Eli isn't 6'5" or 230+.

Needs to work in a new system, that will get his juices flowing and these receivers need to go out and play, this offense is too confusing and too much thinking and less reacting, bad for good athletes. If that were a new system coming in, then it may be different, but they have run this system for a long time now, to see this offense play this way tells me it is totally broken, these players are just not buying in, and Eli looks disinterested also. Even the linemen need a new voice. It is time to say goodbye, if they don't, I really think this will continue to only get worse.

Thrown down with ease? He has escaped so many "sure" sacks it isn't funny. Just ask the Patriots how easy he is to bring down.

There is certainly enough blame to go around to explain the season. However, it is painfully obvious to me (an eli fan) that he must take the bulk of the blame. Iknow the Ol and running game is poor but an elite qb finds away. none of his throws are on the money, when he does have someone deep it seems they have to slow down or come back rather than catching in stride, slants over the middle the ball is ALWAYS behind the receiver, misses wide open rec, can't throw an on the money screen pass. I don't know what's wrong but I can see eli is not the same and I don't think the rest of team play is the major factor. It seems to me eli has some troubling issues.

Eli stinks this year
Gman11 : 12/9/2013 12:43 pm : link
but your post stinks worse.

I never thought that Eli had a great arm. He would constantly underthrow long passes. So, that Hail Mary pass didn't surprise me one bit. It doesn't mean he's done. He's gotten by more on smarts than on having a gun for an arm.

He's a statue? I think he's ran more this year than the previous 9 combined. He has moved in the pocket well. The pass protection is horrible.

This doesn't give him a pass, but one bad year doesn't mean he's done either. All this trying to analyze his psychological makeup is downright stupid.

But when Peyton was out the year because of Injury Eli had his most productive year and looked more in command.
How did they do head to head..never even a contest.

I know he needs OL help and better comunication with his recievers but when Big brother Retires he will have some really good years because I think Eli has some issues.

Then he had a couple great seasons toward the end of his career, making it to the 2007 and 2009 NFCCGs. To say that Eli doesn't have it in him to lead us to another Super Bowl title, just because he is in a slump, is really quite idiotic.

too early to say he's done given all the problems with the offense, especially the OL, but it won't be if he is just as bad next season. Saying it's premature to conclude that Eli is done does not in any way mean that his play this year hasn't been wretched. And I think we can all agree that he isn't playing at a level anywhere close to what he is being paid.
And he's
liteamorn : 12/9/2013 1:19 pm : link
Basically stuck with the play called, by the time he gets to the line there is 4 fucking seconds left EVERY SINGLE TIME, no chance to audiblize. Check down? Christ he doesn't even have time to set up in the pocket (WHAT pocket). Our offense is to complex with the line we have, how the hell can Eli and his receivers make the same reads on the defense if there isn't time to make any read.

calle in to Boomer & Carton talking about changing things up. They asked Boomer as a former NFL QB his thoughts on the system

and Boomer flat out said he never liked it and that it generates way too much indecision and that QB's in systems like Brees/Brady/Peyton can look great when there is a comfort in knowing WHEN and WHERE a guy is going to be so that those timing throws can hit guys in windows that would close up in 1 more second.

this is why the O looks great sometimes and looks like dogshit others... its not Eli and never was.

be finished but I highly doubt it. There are glaring holes in this team and Eli has been bad, but I strongly believe that if he were on San Fran right now he would be having a great year.

ELi has taken many hits and stayed in the pocket to receive them, so saying he has not is flat out wrong.

Someone criticized him for not breaking the reac around sack by Allen against Minn. That was the right play. We were going against an inept offense and were in our own 20 yard line. Going down there rather than trying to make a play following a breakdown in protection was smart. We won that game because mistakes like throwing a pick there were not made. I completely agree with him going down there and taking the sack. Had he taken the sack more times in the 6 games before that, we may have been able to pull out another win or two and be in the hunt right now.

If you want to criticize his accuracy, strength etc., fine, but going after his courage and mindset is laughable and tells me you're not watching the games. He gets hit often, he takes hard hits while trying to make plays, but he is smart about it because Eli on the sideline doesn't do anybody any good. he has shown more emotion this year than in the past, so if you don't think he wants to play well and win, you're not watching.

We heard this crap in 2010, and he had an outstanding 2011. Put him on a good team and he will not be the person holding us back. Blaming the season on him is absurd, yet he does deserve a portion of that blame. He has been sub-par, but there are many factore, internal and external that are going into it. Poor offensive line play, inability to make plays and a lack of confidence especially.
Eli will be fine

Is with all this new, quite terrifying, information about concussions and sub-concussive blows coming out over the last few years is whether Eli really does want to keep playing until he's all used up. He's got nothing more to prove as a pro and is a NY sports legend when all is said and done. Maybe the wife and 2 kids with a gazillion dollars aspect shouldn't be overlooked.

mattlawson : 12/9/2013 3:55 pm : link
the OL has fucked the whole team up this year, no time, and lasting effecting on Eli. Trust in this offense obviously is at a premium.

However, to be elite and the thing we always loved and credited eli for was shaking off the bad and overcoming it. not this year. and not last year either. he must have spent his wad in 2011 because that was an amazing time to be a Giants fan -- and it was all on him.
