What past Giants do you with could have a SB victory

FETS : 12/18/2013 3:16 pm
For me I am going with guys that were true Giants (or will always be thought of as Giants) Guys that excelled and made the team better. Guys I rooted for hard when they played and just feel like they would be well deserved of a championship.

Armstead
Tiki
Ike
Sehorn
Carpenter
the Hammer
Kevin999 : 12/18/2013 3:18 pm : link
Keith Hamilton
Bob Tucker. John Mendenhall
Victor in CT : 12/18/2013 3:19 pm : link
Brad Van Pelt. Brian Kelly. Doug Van Horn. Spider Lockhart
Dave Jennings Doug Kotar
I with that
Enoch : 12/18/2013 3:25 pm : link
Jethe Ahmthtead could've won a Thuper Bowl.
Dave Brown
Rocky369 : 12/18/2013 3:33 pm : link
then there would be no Eli to Dilfer comparisons.

There are a lot.. Hilliard was the first who came to mind for me. Loved that dude.
Van Pelt, Jennings

They played well on a lot of bad teams.
I wish

Shockey had an SB here (I know he was part of the 2007 team, but he was not part of the SB run & thus, not remembered as such). He was a fan favorite for a few years and had some great games & plays, but the poor manner in which he left makes the bad outweigh the good he brought and we remember him in such a negative manner.

I'm not saying it's not warranted, but I wish he was part of that magical run and that he remained a beloved Giant, despite his multitude of shortcomings.

Bob Tucker - my #38 jersey. My mom bought it for me many, many years ago, obviously. He should've been able to enjoy a Super Bowl. In fact, I'd like to think the Maras invited him to one of the past 4.
My apologies
Frank in Silver Spring : 12/18/2013 3:44 pm : link
Sorry about that last q
Yeah totally forgot the

Hammer. I thought about Shockey and Hampton but since they had a ring I didnt include them
R Hampton missed the 90 SB as a rookie
blueberry : 12/18/2013 3:51 pm : link
Charles Way also would have been nice to get a ring
Joe Morrison

Hampton was on the '90 team. He has a ring.
While watching Super Bowl XXI I remember wishing
truebluelarry : 12/18/2013 7:00 pm : link
Rob Carpenter was in uniform. He was critical to the surge that got it started in 1981, it's a shame he wasn't there for the culmination.
Johnny Perkins ...
Mike in Raleigh : 12/18/2013 7:09 pm : link
and John Mendenhall ... for sure ... Who else? Let's see ... Brad Van Pelt & Brian Kelley ... Also 100% ... Beasley Reece & Terry Jackson ... Andy Headen ... (I don't think he was on the '86 team) ... Earnest Gray ... Jim Clack too!!!
Yeah ... Rob Carpenter ...
Mike in Raleigh : 12/18/2013 7:11 pm : link
& Keith Hamilton too!!!!
Also ,,,
Mike in Raleigh : 12/18/2013 7:13 pm : link
I will say that everyone else previously mentioned deserves it too!!! I've been watching Giants football (good AND bad) since 1977!!! So ... CLEARLY ... I know!!!
Except ... I DEFINITELY ...
Mike in Raleigh : 12/18/2013 7:15 pm : link
disagree with Dave Brown ... mentioned here!!! I also would not mention Danny Kanell ... So there!!!! ;)
That I watched...
Giantology : 12/18/2013 7:20 pm : link
Kerry Collins. I really liked him when he first started playing in Carolina and was really excited when the Giants picked him up. I was sick of Brown, Graham, and Kanell.

Of course guys like Hamilton & Armstead, too.

That I didn't watch... definitely John Tuggle
It's not whether or not ...
Mike in Raleigh : 12/18/2013 7:28 pm : link
you watched them ... but ... rather ... do you KNOW their history in the NFL!!!!
Agree on the 1970's Giants
PatersonPlank : 12/18/2013 7:39 pm : link
I loved them but they sucked. I'm glad Tiki didn't win one.
So many,
LMags : 12/18/2013 7:58 pm : link
Carpenter, Kelly, Van pelt, felt bad for Mark Haynes, even though he forced the trade. Hammer, sehorn, armstead, Tiki, even Marty schottenhrimer, he was our LBs coach in the 70 s? After the football life program feel so bad for him, seems like a.great guy and coach who just had no luck. Off the subject but I always felt that if Cleveland had beat Denver in 86 it.would have.been a much tougher game.for us in XX1,
All of them!

Headen was on the '86 team
regulator : 12/18/2013 8:03 pm : link
He and Byron Hunt probably could have started for a lot of teams in that era. Truly a different game back then,

As to the question originally posed Keith Hamilton and Armstead for sure, Phillippi Sparks, Joe Danelo are some more.

It would have spared us twenty-three years (and counting) of hearing about how he wouldn't have. It also would have prevented R*y H*ndl*y from even considering the switch to Hostetler the following season.

Most of all. Guy always played to the short string. Died earlier than most just after getting a new house. Stunning athlete. Spider Lockhart . Greg Larson , Pete Case, Jim Clack. Aaron Thomas, and just for Squint's enjoyment-Fran Tarkenton. The Ron Johnson nomination deserves his couplet: Tucker Frederickson. And throw In Bobby Duhon, too.
Keith Hamilton
Jerry in DC : 12/18/2013 10:00 pm : link
is the first guy who came to mind - he was really good for a while, but never quite got the amount recognition I thought he deserved.

Those late 90's/early 00's teams weren't the greatest and were really inconsistent. But they had a lot of guys I enjoyed rooting for and would've liked to see have some more success -- Hilliard, Sehorn, Collins, Tiki, Armstead
100% Tiki

He carried the Giants offensively for years...retired one year too early...
Jack Stroud, Rosey Brown, Ray Wietecka, Mel Tripplett,

remember his big blitz against Montana to end "The Comeback." Giants need players like Headen
ah - ( New Window )
It was Hampton's rookie year in 1990
oipolloi : 12/18/2013 11:35 pm : link
iirc he looked good early and then was injured for most of the season. Fortunately, the Giants had OJ Anderson

and nothing against the Coughlin-Eli era, but i loved those smash-mouth Parcells teams
Harder question would be if you had to limit it to three past players

He was (is) an asshole. And he was the real reason they lost to SF, dropping an easy TD that would have buried the Niners. Of course, he won the water and ice throwing contest with their equally stupid fans.
