I KNOW that Beatty is making a fortune, but I wonder whether Pugh's feet make him a more prototypical LT, and Beatty may be less taxed at RT. Neither are road graders, so neither are going to be great drive-blocking RTs. Given that, might they be better off switchiing positions next year?
Then sign Mack if he's able to leave Cleveland, add Asamoah too, and draft another OG in one of the first two rounds, and we're set on the line.
Neither is Pugh. But he may be a better LT than Beatty down the road.
Maybe if Jerry Reese pisses on a spark plug, he can get this offense firing on all cylinders.
if beatty can play left tackle, then he can play right tackle, where he will be less stressed, although several nfl pundits and ex-players have commented this week that there is less difference between the two positions in today's game than there used to be
draft, or free agency a guard and center, work with boothe and maybe mosley, pray the eric hermann can play, and hope that the damage to eli manning's game is not irrevocable
This O-line needs at least 3 new starters..possibly 4.
Oy ve.
They aren't moving him around. Not happening.
Don't blame the tackles IMO. They work as a unit.
I mean did you see the sack he gave up against the vikings DE who just reached around him with one hand and hauled down Eli. He gets bull rushed and to add to that he cant hold his own against quick speed rushers.
I don't know what the answer is but it's not Beatty at LT.

Yea Jared Allen is a slouch. How dare he give up a bull rush to him and god forbid Eli moves 3 inches to his left or right and avoids it. I get it's popular to bash Beatty but it's getting ridiculous
The interior Oline needs to be the major focus here. Need a solid center and two guards that can maul people. We HAVE to get back to controlling the LOS.
It won't come together right away, however.
Stats were pulled out stating he played well last year, when I didn't think he did to warrant the contract he got.....but it was another Baas situation, where we were desperate for a LT and he was the only option...
How do you build an OL if one of the blocks is a weak link?
Who knows, maybe he comes back and plays well next year....will he be repositioned? Who knows?
Until the blocks for the line are assembled by free agency and the draft, we have no idea who plays where.....
Do we take a chance on Baas another year, or do we cut him?
Boothe is not a starter.....what he is is a versatile backup, and a good one at that.....
From what little we have seen of Brewer/Mosley, it doesn't look good....
And what about Snee? Think he will walk away from 7M, if he thinks he can play? And then there is the father in law connection....
It's hard to believe, there are still those on BBI that think Diehl will be back....
So, it's obvious we need two guards and a center.....we also need more depth on the bench.....
And part of every OL is is a good blocking TE....
And then, once the blocks are in place, how long will it be before they become a cohesive unit? One thing is for sure.....if this line does not block well next year, how will this affect Eli? He looks shell shocked this year....another year of this kind of line play, could be irreparable on his psyche....
Pugh's already doing it, hopefully Beatty will pick it up.
But if I'm Reese, by no means am I passing on a blue goose LT in this draft, if that's the way the picks unfold.
If Beatty fails, they may very well shuffle some piesces aroung, making Pugh LT & putting Will @ RT or replacing him.
We are stuck with Beatty because is next 3 years of dead money is 15.5M, 8.2M and finally 5M.
Pugh has played LT his entire college career so he should get a chance to shine at LT. However, if Beatty sucks worse at RT than he did this year at LT, you can't move him. I don't think he plays inside at all.
Battle it out in camp and pre-season next year, let the chips fall where they may.
Beatty has had a few bad games. It isn't like every game has been bad. He admitted a couple of weeks ago that he was trying to copy others and wasn't being himself, and I don't think his name was called once against Seattle.
And before you anoint Pugh, understand that he has been getting a lot of help on his side of the field from backs, TE and other OL. There is nothing wrong with that, it's to be expected since he is a rookie, but let's not act like Pugh has been an All-Pro on an island all by himself over there.
Guards always fall in the draft, and we could probably get a beast in the second round.
of course, he's been forced to center a fair amount.
We NEED two guards. Hopefully Booth will be amenable to a minimum contract to be a quality backup.
To compete against good teams you need a very good line. Not an average OL....a good one.Set the bar high.
