With the constraints of the cap and the needs at other positions how many new oline players can the the Giants bring in either Free Agency or the draft?
Has either Brewer or Mosley shown enough to be answers on the line? At worse case they seem to be adequate depth and if either one can stay healthy and improve(which isn't asking all that much for relatively young players) they may even have a chance to start. Maybe it is just wishful thinking but it is the season for miracles
in fact, the whole lions team, (except the young r/b), werent ready to play this game for their playoff lives..its exactly the same scenario giants fans have suffered for years..need a game against a lesser opponent and come up empty..its as much an indictment of jim schwartz and his staff as anything you could say about tom coughlin and our staff
that being said, diehl wont be back..brewer is not an answer..boothe is a free agent..beatty was woeful this year..mosley might be able to play, we dont know yet..pugh is definitely part of next years offensive line, just not sure where yet
then theres goodin, hermann, reynolds, and whoever else in camp
so, that leaves the giants potentially needing 2 new guards and a center, at minimum..the offensive line was the biggest reason for the poor season we had this year..it doesnt need to be said anymore..
Mara should not permit this to happen. Snee has to retire also. Baas should be a post June 1st cut.
Need a good FA, at least 1, probably 2 and consider drafting a center that can run block really well. (Mauler)
Keep Baas and let him compete at center with the draft choice. He's a sunk cost, knows the system, and plays well sometimes. He'd be an ideal back-up center/back-up guard and who knows, maybe he agrees to reduce his salary like Diehl did last year?
We went through 11 O-linemen this year so i hope to god they do not rely on the guys on this roster.
And then they will draft an OT in the first round unless the Big Four (or Five, depending on how you feel about Robinson) are all taken.
Giants are not going to panic and go out and sign two big FA offensive linemen. As always, they will distribute their resources in picks and FAs across the board.
Look for them to sign a low-cost, Sean Locklear type vet at OT to serve as a back-up.
The OL is terrible...one addition isn't going to do it. We need to draft at least two guys who can play day one.Guys returning from injury just can't be counted on. If you put that same sort of OL out there next year with Killdrive calling the plays it will be this year over again.
BTW...it was odd that the roll outs which worked in the first half were shelved in the second when the Lions DL took over the game. Go figure.
Go to camp with Beatty, Boothe, Pugh as starters - let 4 or 5 guys battle for the G's (vets and youngsters) and get a vet b/u T
(Amazing how good the line didSunday without Deihl), he's gone. Snee's gone.
Beatty, Pugh stay. Mosely,Reynolds, Boothe, (maybe Brewer) - reserve roles.
We'll see a new center and two guards (FAs and/or draft choices).
